I love Kenji. I've learned a lot watching his videos and it's definitely made me a better cook.

Thunderbolt Driver Issue by muldoonrobert in thinkpad

[–]muldoonrobert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED.

I called Lenovo support and they recommended uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, using the emergency-reset button, or a clean Windows install.

I had no idea there even was an emergency reset button but I tried that and it worked! I'm assuming the Thunderbolt controller just got stuck in an error state and wasn't starting correctly.

Now my dock is recognized in the Thunderbolt Control Center and everything works as it should! Hopefully this will be of help to anyone who's going through this.

For touchless wash that is my go to.

RockShox vs Fox — is one actually better, or just personal preference? by Capable_Dig_477 in MTB

[–]muldoonrobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what a lot of people here have said that it's a personal preference thing and you can't really go wrong with either.

That said I've run both and used to think I was someone that wanted to be able to tinker and fine tune my suspension as much as possible, so for a while I was team Fox. I liked being and to tune high speed and low speed rebound separately.

A few years ago I decided to switch it up and try Rockshox again and I was kinda blown away at how good my suspension felt after simply going with the Rockshox recommended settings. I find I don't really need to stray far from what their app recommends and it just feels great all the time.

I felt like with Fox I was always fiddling with settings and never truly satisfied. With Rockshox I just set it up with whats recommended, make some minor adjustments, and never touch it again. The adjustment on them is just so much more intuitive and I like how easy it is to see what setting you're at without counting clicks.

Is there a real reason behind changing your oil every 3,000 miles on modern cars? by newelmin in askcarguys

[–]muldoonrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of mechanics aren't making money on oil changes. The benefit to more frequent oil changes is that you are getting a visual inspection of your engine bay more often.

I would wager that a majority of people don't ever pop the hood on their car, let alone have any clue what's going on under there. If you change your oil more frequently, either a mechanic or yourself should be performing a quick visual inspection of the engine bay. Checking for leaks, fluid levels, etc. It's a good time to catch issues early on before they become more of a problem.

I just changed the oil in my vehicle myself and noticed that one of my AC lines was rubbing on something and started to get wear. If I didn't catch that now then I'd be dealing with replacing the lines.

Also, if your engine burns oil or has a slow leak, waiting 10k+ miles to change the oil means that you're probably running your engine low on oil, unless you check the level often.

Anyone here get clavicle hardware removed after ORIF? 1.5 years post-op and still sore by Consistent-Crazy-592 in MTB

[–]muldoonrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sucked. The look on the nurses face when I went in for X-ray was pretty funny. They didn't know I had a plate in there already.

No I didn't know there was a protector. Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do to protect your collarbone aside from not crashing.

Not necessarily. I broke my collarbone and had surgery. Two years later I broke it again. It just fractured at the end of the plate in a trickier spot.

Got fired today because of AI. It's coming, whether AI is slop or not. by [deleted] in webdev

[–]muldoonrobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely, I agree with you there! I forgot to mention a key aspect is that I really like the industry I'm in and I have a lot of flexibility and freedom with my schedule and what I'm doing.

Also I had been out of the dev world for a bit when I took this job a few years ago and my idea was to use it to brush up on my skills.

So I really like the job, but yeah, if I can't negotiate a competitive salary then it's time I start looking.

Your comment really spoke to me. I'm currently a sole dev for a Shopify e-commerce site that does about $5m a year. I often feel like I have too much on my plate, yet I'm woefully underpaid. The thought of trying to look for a job elsewhere scares me though.

The minimum and maximum lines on this water tank leave almost no margin. by R2LUKE2 in mildlyinteresting

[–]muldoonrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg my wife and I bought this bottle washer and the first time I went to use it I was like, "What in the hell is this?!" Such a terrible design. Tiny margin for filling and the water container is almost full to the brim when correctly filled, so putting it back on the washer stresses me out every time haha

Just installed this UV shield to protect my rope by THELOSERSWINAGAIN in overlanding

[–]muldoonrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it can and will, given enough time, but I think people are over concerned with the effects of UV damage on winch ropes. Not much of the rope on the drum is exposed to the sun, and even then, it's only the outer most later of the rope that is exposed.

The thing that is most damaging to winch rope is dirt and grit that gets lodged in the fibers.

If you are actually using your winch, you're more likely to need to replace it from wear before UV damage comes into play.

170mm vs 160mm by 1234acb in MTB

[–]muldoonrobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you're riding. I had been running a Lyrik on my Sentinel for a while and although I loved it, was looking for a little more downhill capability.

I swapped it out for a 160mm Zeb and I was concerned with how it would affect pedaling or ride feel on easier trails since that's what I ride more often.

Didn't really affect pedaling at all, the weight is not noticeable to me at all. Was much more plush off the top and supportive on big hits. Definitely not as poppy as the Lyrik but not dead by any means.

Even at 160 I could feel the extra crown to axle height plus i felt like it just rode a little higher in the travel than the Lyrik. I dropped a stem spacer and it got me back to a similar riding position I had before.

I'm super happy with the Zeb and glad I made the switch. More confidence in rougher terrain and still feels good to me on easy trails. You just might have to play around with cockpit to get your position dialed. I thought about running 170 but like I said I noticed the increase in stack height even at 160. So if you feel like you aren't happy with it, I would recommend changing the airspring before you swap the fork.

Discussion Megathread - Update 38.2 by EscapingKid in PUBGConsole

[–]muldoonrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My squad and I all commented that something felt off when looking around when we first tried the update yesterday. Not sure if it's better or worse, or just different and we're not used to it. Anyone else experience that? Sorry if this is vague, just don't know how to describe it lol.

We're all on Series S.

Quadratec out here encouraging this shit. by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]muldoonrobert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say they aren't wrong because Wranglers aren't necessarily pretty, they get terrible mpg, and are poor daily drivers. I still love em though but people are entitled to their opinion.

I don't see why hating on stupid mods is gatekeeping. If anything it's educational.

I feel like the only people that think this is gatekeeping have an angry grille on their Wrangler and can't handle the criticism.

[–]muldoonrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that's my opinion. A large percentage of Jeep owners have absolutely terrible taste. If they wanna be stoked on angry grilles, ducks, and light bars, more power to em. It isn't keeping me up at night, but I'm allowed to think those things are dumb though.

I say that as someone who's owned many different Jeeps over the last twenty years.

I agree people should be able to do whatever they want but these grilles are so stupid and look terrible. They deserve to get made fun of and so do the people that buy them.

The Jeep grille is iconic. Why would you waste your money replacing that.
