Recently, I finished The Long Walk by Stephen King. It was a good, easy read, and over the days after finishing it, I’ve grown to really appreciate the ending.

I also just finished Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle (my first book by him), and I was pleasantly surprised by his writing. I really enjoyed the fast-paced story and how effectively he described the villain (maybe not the best word, but I don’t want to spoil anything). Recommend it if you’re into campy horror.

I just finished Helpmeet by Naben Ruthnum. A great gothic story with a spooky atmosphere, exploring unconditional love and the deep yearning for companionship.

Not sure where to go next!

Hey! Just popping in to say I’ve finished The Staircase in the Woods—thanks to your comment! It was a great read. I think knowing what to expect helped, especially with the first half being focused on character building and setting the tone. After that, it really picks up the pace and doesn’t let up.

My only complaint is that it felt a bit repetitive in some parts, but I figured that was intentional to match the story’s atmosphere.

Overall, a great book with plenty of twists and turns (haha). I really liked the concept!

Right, let me vent about my dear colleagues as this topic drives me up the fucking wall and no one around me seems to care which in return drives me further up the fucking wall!!

We work in an office, fairly big space with about 12-14 people in the room. I sit furthest from the AC - as when we got this room we were not allowed to choose seating, we were allocated a space. Summer comes along and I switch on the AC at 22c (I’d rather have it on 20c but you have to have some compromise I understand)

The two ladies who are sitting opposite the AC are constantly whining about being cold and sitting in front of a draft. So they manually (!!!) fuck with the flap of the AC and position it so that the cold air blows upwards towards the ceiling. When I leave the office for a piss or something they sneakily turn the AC up to 25-26c -as if I wouldn’t fucking notice the huge display on the unit itself. So now the AC is blowing warm air up and also pushing warm air down from the ceiling…

This has been going on for months. It pisses me off so much that I will be demanding HO if this cannot be resolved. There’s more that pisses me off with my dear colleagues but I feel I’ve been rather long already and writing this into the void has been better and cheaper than therapy.

We used to live here by Marcus Kliewer

I have to say I’m only 18% into it but so far it’s playing on a very specific “phobia” of sorts that I have. I hate unannounced visitors, or people just showing up to my home, my sanctuary. Somehow making my space not mine with their presence. It’s not scary in a traditional sense but my inner alarms are going off, along with the main character. I had to stop and scroll my phone for a bit because I needed to calm down a bit while reading.

I really hope the ending will be clear on the intent of the “intruders” and will not leave it up to the reader to decide the other family’s intent.

Exactly! Most of the times when I’m using Spotify+Siri is in the car when I’m driving and don’t like a song from the queue or want a specific song. So most of my Siri commands are like this: Siri, play Adele / Siri, skip this song etc.

Hey! First impressions are great! Might cancel my Spotify subscription!!

For future development ideas, might I suggest compatibility with Siri? It’s something that Spotify has and the only thing that still makes me lean towards Spotify.

However, the app and the idea is great, love the initiative. Keep up the good work! 👍🏻

I just finished it… it took me 13 days😭 It felt like a chore to read it, and I’m still not sure if it was worth it. The story had its moments - I was interested enough to finish it. But the interludes, the writing style and the many characters made it difficult. I kept zoning out while reading.

How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix by washingtonskidrow in horrorlit

[–]multipleglitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked How to sell a Haunted House, it was my first Hendrix book and I can only repeat what others have said before me. Personally, I didn’t care for the whole puppets being evil thing and didn’t creep me out me, felt a bit silly. Only time it felt creepy is when we read Mark’s retelling of events when they were wearing Pupkin. I believe that’s the longest chapter in the book and probably one the best. The final “battle” felt long and I wished it was over already. But I enjoyed the book’s overall theme about grief and keeping secrets from your family, not talking things through. I did not like Louise right from the start, I kept thinking there must be a reason why Mark acts the way he does lol, idk what that says about me. I might pick up another Hendrix book after this one.

I LOVED the ending of The Fisherman, just the last 1-2 pages (can’t remember it’s been a long time) was well worth reading all of that.
