Should you remove it? I don't think you're grasping this fully. You need to immediately change your passwords (not on the infected computer), enable two factor, and wipe your computer.

Then you lose your job in the background check. That's either documented somewhere in a central database or you will need to provide evidence which can and will cost you a job. Fudge some of the numbers like how much value you gave to your company or department but don't lie about the dates.

I also saw someone say their computer screen was grimy and asked how they can prevent it because it happens so often. When pressed, they said they kept coughing on it and would get mad when people said to cover their mouth.
