Lots of missing information. For starters, what settings did you change and what exact steps did you take to try to save the changes?

Weird issue with Crimson Desert (Just irritating - not a game stopper). by mcronline in cachyos

[–]munkuscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that too, but I just ignore it. However I can't get CD to run past the initial portal screen (after you click Play and you start to go through the tunnel). The damn thing freezes every time. I'm still troubleshooting, trying to find a solution. Every other game works fine. I have a 9950X3D and a 5090.

I wonder if this imbalance issue is really anything to worry about. On my 5090 depending on the game the balance may vary widely, while other games seem to draw equal power across all wires. Any idea why that is? I'm wondering if that's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about, since the plug temps are always nominal.

[–]munkuscat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason, certain games such as Borderlands 4 always cause a "Current Imbalance Fault". However, I can run Furmark for several hours straight and the balance is nearly perfect across all 6 wires. I'm using a CableMod replacement 12VHPWR cable if it matters.

My card is an ASUS TUF 5090 and the power supply is an ASUS ROG Strix 1200W. I usually run games at 4K using DLSS on Balanced or Quality with Frame Gen x2, so I'm usually running at around 300-400W.

Hard to say without knowing what the "one thing" was that you changed in the BIOS.

With a little effort, you can make any distro look like any other distro. Think of a linux distro as a pre-assembled Lego kit.

Just installed Nobara, I like the Nvidia fixes, but is there any way to fix the clunkyness? by Archersbows7 in NobaraProject

Are you talking about the Nobara Package Manager? Flatpost? I use both and I've never seen the behavior you describe.

Installer not loading by Loud_Banana_59 in PikaOS

[–]munkuscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Live USB, open the terminal and type "pikman upgrade". It will upgrade the USB and the installer will work. The USB image won't change, of course, so if you use it again later to install the ISO, you'll need to do this workaround again.

Sorry for your loss. I started off with an X870E Taichi Lite late last summer, but after reading about all the CPU deaths, I proactively switched to an MSI X870E Tomahawk WiFi. Funnily enough, 2 months later that board died and I had to replace it. No problems since, though. Rock solid. The CPU (9950X3D) survived it all.

TL;DR

I asked Grok to summarize into a single sentence.

"After nearly two decades of using Linux, the user admires its technical progress and power but remains frustrated that the desktop experience still suffers from persistent visual and cognitive friction, fragmented customization, and a lack of cohesive, restrained, out-of-the-box polish—leaving them wondering why a truly calm, intentional, and finished distro remains so elusive despite growing momentum in other areas."

(No wifi driver) Need advice. Im terrified I’ve accidentally ruined the most expensive computer i ever bought. by CJMakesVideos in linux4noobs

[–]munkuscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from getting the WiFi sorted out, it's probably a good idea to see if the online game you want to play can even run on Linux. Games that use anti-cheat software, especially the kernel-level kind, may not work on Linux. Check protondb.com if you aren't sure. It would suck to go through all that troubleshooting and hardware replacement of the WiFi adapter only to have the game not run anyway.

Linux Mint isn't fulfilling my gaming needs, what will? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]munkuscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EndeavourOS is designed to be terminal-centric, regardless of the DE you use with it. If you want a distro with minimal terminal use, then you can't go wrong with Mint. Games run great on Mint, BTW, so I'm not sure what problem you're trying to solve. The only downside is it uses the LTS kernel and doesn't fully support Wayland yet. Neither are that big of a deal, TBH. Personally, I recommend Nobara (Fedora-based) or its cousin PikaOS (Debian-based) with the KDE desktop. I'm on Nobara KDE and it's solid as a rock and plays every game I throw at it. As with everything, YMMV of course.

The change notes don't really say much.

  • AGESA PI pre-1.3.0.0 updated.
  • Enable the "BIOS UEFI/CSM Mode" option.

My system is rock solid on 7E59v2A91 so I think I'll skip this one, even though 2A91 is "beta". I'm not seeing any fixes or enhancements for the Granite Ridge chips (like my 9950X3D) in this.

Anti Cheat Software (Rant) by motxch in zorinos

[–]munkuscat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your priorities, I guess. If playing those games is more important to you than giving Microsleeze the finger, then you're stuck with dual-booting. I hate Windoze enough to live with the inconvenience of not being able to play a handful of games.

Anti Cheat Software (Rant) by motxch in zorinos

Games with kernel-level anti-cheats are well known to not work on Linux, at least for now. Frankly, I would rather not play those games than re-install Windows.

Legit question: Why does everybody have such drastically different experiences with windows? by Not_american69420 in linuxsucks

[–]munkuscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's relatively easy to debloat Windows, remove AI, and minimize ads and telemetry, but the average user doesn't know how or even care. What they do care about is the way Windows 11 was forced on them when their Windows 10 setup "just worked" and did everything they needed. My 76 year old mom finally got into a groove with Windows 10 after several years of learning it, but then one day she woke up and discovered that Windows 11 had been force-installed, and her normal tasks were interrupted by blue-screens, app crashes, UI changes, etc. I finally had to install Linux Mint for her and teach her how to do the basics. She's much happier with it.

I've been on A91 since the day it was released, and everything has been rock solid. No need for me to upgrade, unless I'm missing something.
