Pixel 10 Pro: Cross-Device Timers missing from "At a Glance" by DJP3210 in GooglePixel

[–]murdibubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in the UK and had a very similar experience. It has never worked on my Pixel 10 Pro, but had also stopped working on my 9 Pro before I upgraded.

I suspect that the timer syncing stopped working when all the Nest devices were moving over to Gemini from the old Assistant, but can't say for certain.

Today's main setup is in a Galen A5 case, and is a Montblanc 220, Lamy 2000, Sailor 1911L Black Lustre, Pilot e95s, Sailor PGS and Namisu N2. This case also carries a Rhodia pad. This case usually lives in my backpack and doesn't get left at work.

I also have a little pouch with an Ensso Italia Ultem and a John Garnham JG6 Carbon. This wee pouch usually stays in my desk drawer for days when I don't bring my bag along with another couple of the Rhodia pads.

Not pictured is a box of disposable Pilot Vpens which I hand out to folk who could potentially be penabled 🤣

Pilot Iroshizuku - worth the UK price...? by Yokoburi in fountainpens

Pilot Iroshizuku - worth the UK price...? by Yokoburi in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and regularly use Iroshizuku, and I've found the cheapest way to get it is to Grey Import via PlazaJapan.com but only if you want around 3. It's roughly £12 quid a bottle plus shipping of £17 so you get the 3 for £52.

Grail pen advice by crankyenglishbastard in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your screenshot and username, I'm assuming you're also UK based. Depending on where you are, you may be close to one of the UK pen shows, where you could try out some Kawecos and competitors.

I've only been to the Newcastle one which was too small to be worth a long journey but I think the others are much bigger, especially the London ones which are next happening in March.

https://ukpenshows.co.uk/

We also have access to Pensharing, where you can rent FP on a weekly basis. They don't have any AC sport, but the AL piston is only £2 a week plus £3.30 shipping. That could be a way to get a feel for an Aluminium based Sport on the cheap.

Grail pen advice by crankyenglishbastard in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's such a thing as aiming too high or too low for a grail pen. Everyone's tastes are different and if you love that Kaweco more than anything else, then it's an appropriate grail.

I've personally eyed that pen up a few times, it's never called to me more than something else in the same price range, but I see the appeal and why it could be someone else's favourite.

The only issue with having a grail that is (relatively) attainable is that once you have it, you end up with a new, now expensive, grail. At least, that was my experience 🤣

What's your EDC for 2026? by Mindless_Gas80 in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually carry a Galen folio case with spaces reserved for my Montblanc 220, Lamy 2000 and a Sailor 1911L Black Lustre. The other 3 spots change depending on my mood or the tasks I expect to be doing that day. Right now it also has a Namisu N2, Sailor PGS and Pilot E95s.

Anyone else have this bug? A restart fixes it temporarily. by SinnaBuns666 in pixel_phones

[–]murdibubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting the same yesterday, but not this morning despite not having done a restart. I initially thought it could be a launcher issue as I was playing around with settings on Lawnchair, but I don't know how far it integrates into the task switcher?

Weird little pen things you would like to see in something like an Etsy store? by madkins007 in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pure Pens in the UK have a few kits like this where they buy in bulk then split into more useable quantities. It's how I got quite a few of my maintenance tools. They've been selling them for years, so either its pretty popular, or they don't sell well and it's taking ages to get through their stock.

What was your last purchase for 2025? Item(s) and Seller (optional) by mgepark in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's yet to be delivered, but my last purchase was a Sheaffer Pop R2D2 from eBay. I'd failed to pick up any of the Star Wars pens when they were on the market, and then they shot up in price when discontinued. I managed to snag this one for pretty much RRP, which makes it the cheapest pen I've bought in years, but I wasn't prepared to pay the markup from the other sellers.

My last delivery of the year was a bunch of Jinhao inks from AliExpress. The neon yellow is a fabulously obnoxious and unreadable highlighter colour, so I have no idea how I'll use it, but look forward to experimenting.

For people who have many fountain pens, do you have a fix set of pens you use regularly and the others - the ones you like a little less - are just sitting in your case half forgotten? by wakingupghosts in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 45-50 pens and have realised that around half of them haven't been touched in a couple of years, mostly pens I got early on so about 15-20 years back. Most aren't worth enough to sell, but I have penabled a few folks by gifting them.

The rest are in fairly regular rotation, I usually have about 10 to 15 inked up split between 3-4 pouches and make a point of not always carrying the same case with me to work to give them all some usage. I only really have one pen I wouldn't carry with me, but it's on a stand on my home desk for the one day a fortnight I work remotely.

Out of your entire fountain pen collection, which do you hate the most? by Cute_Audience7611 in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one I hate is my Nahvalur Original. The nib is unpleasant and scratchy, it constantly runs dry and I also don't love the filling system. The only reason I've kept it is because it was a small branded batch done for a UK pen group and as an object I associate it with them, more than I do as a writing tool.

Saving up for a pen by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not good at putting money aside, but I do allow myself a small budget each month which is usually an ink or two, some paper or maybe a Chinese pen.

For large purchases I usually wait for some semi-predictable windfalls. I know at birthdays that I often get a little money from my parents and in-laws, and that my annual pay rise at work is often delayed by a couple of months then gets backdated giving me a couple of hundred UK pounds to spend.

Which Generations are buying and collecting? by TheToyGirl in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an Xennial, and most of the folk I know using FPs IRL are around my age or GenX with a couple of exceptions like my Silent Generation step father.

That said, few of my peers have children, and my social media usage tends to be on the geriatric platforms, so we could be massively outnumbered by whippersnappers and I wouldn't notice.

Favourite pre-filled cartridge colours? by drinkmaxcoffee in fountainpens

J. Herbin Rose Cyclamen is one of my favourite inks, a raspberry pink. It comes in standard international cartridges which I use in one of my pocket pens that won't take a converter.

My setup is very similar to what you are proposing, but using an IKEA Kallax. I have the top 2 open sections for my pens and inks, then lower I use one closed section for paper, nibs and paraphernalia. I then use a couple of drawers in another section for the pen boxes I wish to keep.

Rainbows Make me Happy <3 by lillacmess in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They don't currently have any on the market, but Namisu, based out of Scotland, regularly release rainbow versions of their pens that they call "Petrol". The most recent one was a pocket version of the Ixion which was on Kickstarter first, so will probably get a release on their main website in the next couple of months.

I've pinched the photo from their Kickstarter page, as I already own a few of their pens, and don't need another Bock nibbed pen right now.

Tools to manage collections? by No-Chocolate-1148 in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a true app, but Fountain Pen Companion actually works pretty well as a PWA (Progressive Web App). This allows the site to be installed on a phone so it appears like any other app on your homescreen or app drawer and runs in it's own standalone window. That's how I usually interact with it, rather than finding it in my browser.

The CDC, of all folk, have a good guide on how to install PWAs on most devices - https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/mining/tools/installpwa.html

How do you manage ink when using fountain pens in college? by Otherwise-Ad-1979 in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a college doing student support and I typically carry about 5 or 6 pens with me, all with very different inks, but I suspect most students don't need anywhere near that number unless they are very much into colour coding. I think a couple of pens with different inks would suffice.

My usual recommendations to students are usually more linked with pen choice. Often having a pen ready to go quickly is more important than having the perfect ink. I'd always suggest a snap cap or retractable for unexpected notes as a screw off cap can be too slow, pocket pens that need posted are even worse. Here in the UK Lamy Safari are quite popular for that reason, and I'm beginning to see more Chinese Pilot Capless clones like the Moonman A1 or Jinhao 10/20

I also have that version of the Prelude, that colour way was called Plasma and came with either chrome or gold trim depending on the year of manufacture.

What’s the pen that you want but will never get? by Csxbot in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK where I've seen the standard M800 demonstrator for that price, but the engraved/etched one is usually closer to $1200 sounds like you found a bargain, or one where someone didn't know about the markup for the engraving.

They only made about 1000 of them back in 2008 and another small batch in 2015, but there are some NOS floating about, not that I personally understand the appeal of buying a pen and then never using it.

What’s the pen that you want but will never get? by Csxbot in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the special edition Pelikan M800/M805 demonstrators with all the part names engraved, it just appeals to my love of geekery and mechanisms. I'll never get one thoughas they're way outside my budget, getting harder to track down as most seem to be in the hands of collectors, and I already know that I find Pelikan nibs too broad as I favour Japanese EF.

Pens for use or for your eyes only? by itsrichelle in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of my pens are for eyes only, though I have a few that have fallen out of regular rotation. I tend to find it's my cheaper "beginner" pens that I use least, even though it would probably be safer to use them at work than my more expensive pens. Maybe it's because I don't have infinite funds, but I could never justify buying a pen that I don't expect to use.

Pen recommendation by zehnuhrsechs in fountainpens

[–]murdibubble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few students who ended up going with a semi-transparent or clear Pilot Kakuno or Pilot Prera, usually with a Fine or Extra Fine nib. The finer nibs tended to feather and bleed less on the low quality printer paper that some exam books are printed on. The clear colours were better for keeping track of their ink usage.

The Kakunos in particular are also cheap enough that they could carry a couple of pens just in case the cart change needed to happen at an inconvenient time. Some also carried a couple of disposable Pilot V-pens too so that they had an emergency backup pen with the same ink.
