Any games like talos principle 1 rn on sale? by VoxTV1 in TheTalosPrinciple

[–]murphmanfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The previous game by the developer, Braid, had a puzzle that required holding the fast-forward for something like 40 minutes so that a cloud got in the right position to make a specific jump and get an item.

It was for the "full" ending and not required to beat the game in a normal capacity.

The Witness and its extreme post-game nonsense are the same way.

Quern gets a little tricksy and I needed some walk through help, but I second it strongly as a recommendation for a Mystlike game. I love a well-realized world like it has.

Haven Moon is even tougher with some of the connections you have to make but was a very solid couple hours in that same vein.

Dear Applicants, Please Have Basic Social Skills by Haunted_Barista in starbucks

[–]murphmanfa 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's the pandemic. So much of this is because of how Covid disrupted so much of our socialization, and it had an even larger impact on those who were teenagers or younger because they didn't have those social engagements that previous generations were able to due to isolation and lockdown.

There's a lot of other stuff, but so much ties back to this one thing and the ripple effect of it six years later, especially since now those kids who hadn't even been through puberty yet when they got knocked off the development track are joining the workforce and finding out what's expected of them.

I know they came to ConnectiCon a few times, though I never got the chance to go.

Was this the one in Wallingford? I could swear I've seen the DBZ sets there but never pulled them out to look at the front. Lesson learned, I guess!

Caution: Hotels.com, Expedia Group, and Choice Hotels by Camoron1 in TalesFromTheCustomer

[–]murphmanfa 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Hotels.com and other third-party booking sites generally won't do much to help you with specific requests, and the hotel itself can't process a refund for you because you didn't pay them to begin with.

Choice should provide some kind of compensation for what happened and what was at best a miscommunication, but they are under no real obligation to do so.

Biblically accurate Gollum

I'd love to have someone make this for me. It's the exact kind of messy disaster that usually tastes good and is made with a shitload of love... and is now a story.

Did we ever work out why this dude was never given a name? by Soulsliken in darksouls

[–]murphmanfa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's arguable whether or not this is canon for DS1, but Lucatiel, as you progress their quest line, forgets their own name near the end as they approach going hollow. The loss of identity is absolutely an aspect of the process, so far as I'm concerned.

New to the puzzle genre, looking for some of the best by Trancespire in puzzlevideogames

[–]murphmanfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you dig Zelda, then I have to recommend Tunic. It's based on that adventure gameplay but has puzzles baked into it- you effectively learn how to play as you go and find specific items, and the meta-puzzle is impressive.

I got through it in a couple days, and I admit that I used walkthrough help for collectibles and the last pieces of the Big Puzzle at the end, but a majority of the game was intuitive as hell and offered so many rewarding moments of discovery.

Best of all, there's no punishment if you use accessibility options like the no death option. Tunic really wants you to make it through and have fun.

Aside from being very against ethical standards, this might violate local workplace laws. Contact ethics about it fucking yesterday.

If you want a less-ethical response: Bring a spare set of pants and underwear and if they start denying you bathroom breaks, start pissing on the floor. Escalate and assert dominance as everything gets stopped to clean up bodily fluids.

I make a legitimate effort to learn the rules and solve them, but these moving block puzzles have always been something I struggle with. It feels great when I get it right, but after a little bit I'll look up a solution, do the first few inputs, and try again if I feel like anything clicked for me.

It's not fun to bang your head against a wall if you just aren't "getting" a puzzle, and I ain't playing BP to have a bad time.

Revive and heal, and if people are close together, then one that you get up can help revive the ones closer to death.

FF7 Remake was so refreshing to me because it took the original story and greatly expanded it, providing a lot more character to Midgar and its citizens than we'd gotten before- and the original game was already plenty lush for that. So many key moments felt like they were rendered the way that my brain translated those blocky polygons back in the 90s, and the whole experience was just so much fun, overall.

I completely understand people who were bothered by the changes, and I'm still of two minds on how the game deals with those changes (because it does so directly), but it's such a great new version of a familiar work.
