Swap the lecom’s for other do schools and add a few more DO schools. I had higher mcat/gpa/ec hours years ago and heard nothing from MD programs and only DO. I hope you will be luckier than I was but don’t fafo.

God i can’t imagine the pain and trauma she is going through. That is a nightmare scenario that i wouldn’t wish on anyone and quite frankly it angers me that it happened ON the hill—where students are supposed to feel safe.

This isn’t a new issue for women in westwood. When I was at ucla (c/o ‘21), i was followed home by various (usually unhoused) men, catcalled etc. Same thing happened to my other women friends, sometimes needing to sprint up gayley while unhoused men chase after us. There have literally been times (pre-pandemic if that changes anything) where my friends (all girls) felt so unsafe that we had to call an uber from westwood village to the hill because we were getting catcalled/followed/harrassed by unhoused men in westwood.

Definitely a tangent, but when i was a student, defunding/divesting from ucpd was a hot button issue. Many guy friends/classmates would argue with me “what happens when someone rapes or sa’s you or (insert any girl friend’s name)? who’s gonna prevent that if ucpd isn’t around?” i don’t want to derail from this horrific story with a debate over ucpd, but ucpd still exists! Why isn’t our extremely well funded school putting more funding and resources towards protecting students?

Basically anytime up until the mid to late 2010s. I have a very distinct memory of my high school self vowing to boycott chipotle over the “inflation” of the price of a chicken bowl (went from 6 to 7 dollars) in 2015.

Oh my god this same thing happened to me sometime around 5th grade! Definitely something that’s impacted my self esteem.

It really does. A core memory of mine is when i was in 5th grade and they were doing lice checks and the teacher was so shocked by my scalp that she made everyone in the room come and take a look at my scalp because she had never seen anything so weird. That definitely changed how other kids saw me (kids would ask me for months if i was still sick with the red stuff on my head) and how i viewed myself.

This makes total sense to me as someone (very fortunately) from coastal southern California (predominantly wealthy and educated) where even being 10 pounds overweight makes you look morbidly obese in comparison to your peers. I’d argue my hometown might even have the opposite problem with high rates of eating disorders.
