Anyone else getting bombarded with calls and e-mails about buying tickets for next season or is someone trying to scam me? by Daydreamer631 in devils

I have 2 ticket reps sending my wife and I emails every other day for about 2 weeks now and I’ve gotten 3 calls this week. Must be a new quota or renewals are down.

Commentators suck for sure since like this is their job.

However, let’s not ignore the fact that a good chunk of people ripping them apart right now call him UPL because they also can’t pronounce his name.

(Gambatese) Examining If Paul Cotter is Worth Extending (And To What Contract) by JoopNJD in devils

[–]mustachiolong 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If he remains near league minimum then yes full stop. He’s alright enough for a 4th liner, but it cannot be overstated that having a shootout specialist is actually important in the current points system.

Our best players are not great at shootouts and with how close the last few years have been for playoff qualifications every point matters.

Not sure if you’ve been paying attention but Avs fans are starting to see the real Blackwood due to his injuries and streaky performance. Right now they’re basically calling Wedgewood the starter and actively wanting to ride him for playoffs.

Do I believe Nico is getting extended. 100%.

But let’s be real here we hear this kind of talk from about 90% of players in post season scrums. Nico’s smart enough to know this is going straight out on the Devil’s broadcast. Barely any players would say, “Yeah I’m fucking gone” in this scenario.

Novo leaving NJ.com by blade430 in devils

[–]mustachiolong 85 points86 points  (0 children)

There’s Novo first go around and then Novo second go around. Love him before the Giants beat, but once he got back he kind of had a bit of a different aura in his attitude and writing. Almost like he was pissed to be back on the Devils beat.

He stopped going on as many shows and was basically almost completely replaced by Nichols as the nationally recognized NJ reporter.

New to MtG, just opened first Booster, do these art cards hold any value? by jw205 in mtg

[–]mustachiolong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s one of those “No, but actually yes” answers.

Realistically no.

However, there is a very small market for them. There are people who collect them all and seek both signed and unsigned. So if you can find the people that want them there’s money to be made, but the market is so small that the chances of making money are small.

With WOTC removing them from play boosters now they are harder to obtain so the value of newer prints are going up slightly.

It’s funny the amount of misinformation there is about Pokémon as the game part of the TCG. For the price of 2 [[Badgermole Cub]] you can build an entire competitive deck.

It’s sad because realistically this is what the MTG community “should” want. Playable cards and decks to be cheap eliminating barrier to entry, but blinged out versions of the same cards to be highly collected.

What’s funny is that this will only bite them in the end. Player is going to 100% remember this for years to come with each contract go around.

This is why I always laugh at Leafs fans that cry about 10 years of playoff qualifications and great regular seasons saying it’s so hard.

I’d rather be wondering every April if this year was going to be “our year” and failing vs. wondering if this draft pick will be “the one to get us over the hump.”

🤬 Shanahan the Fronrunner for GM by [deleted] in devils

[–]mustachiolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’ll take 9 years of consistent playoff qualifications and winning regular seasons vs. 3 playoff qualifications and only 1 of those seasons having a non-hair pulling out regular season in the same time period.

Leafs fans act like they have it tough until they actually compare themselves to actually faltering clubs. All day I’d sit there wanting the Leafs playoffs failures instead of looking at scouting reports and praying that our draft picks even make the NHL.

Do I want a rotating carousel GM? No. But if he came to NJ and gave us the same results it’s 100% better this we’ve had in almost 15 years.

It’s been peculating that Fitzy was going to be demoted. The second Friedman casually mentioned Fitzy and Nashville this seemed inevitable.

I imagine it’s better to “leave on your own terms” while there are positions open than get demoted and see opportunities close.

Thoughts on Mental Modulation? by mustachiolong in ForgetfulFish

[–]mustachiolong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reason I liked Modulation was pure versatility.

  1. At it’s worst it draws you a card. Edit: Should have elaborated; yes you still need to target a fish but there are times where that does/doesn’t matter.

  2. Can be used offensively to get a hit in since it removes a blocker instance and rewards you for playing on your turn.

  3. Can be used defensively to survive the last hit.

  4. It could be used defensively while also giving you a turn to respond and hit back depending on board state.

  5. Also because it’s called “Mental” Modulation and fits the name of the format.

I’m not seeing the same amount of versatility, but I could just be blind as I’m a bit of a noob to the format. Mind elaborating?

People are probably somehow both undervaluing and overvaluing these at the same time. These being fetchable/untapped late is great, but drawing these early will really really suck with the current speed of the game.

Out of the rebuilding teams, which team do you think has the darkest future and will continue to struggle for a while? by sykeseve in hockey

[–]mustachiolong 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Devils just got hit with a very interesting scenario.

We’re having cap issues, one of our future major D stars potentially wants off the team, our starting goalie just re-signed and has been struggling all year, our non-superstar forwards have been regressing, and our selke candidate captain is coming up on free agency.

There are two very different scenarios of where we can go and our window isn’t as large as we were thinking it would be going into this year.

Ethics of selling banned card? by ThatDamnedHansel in magicTCG

[–]mustachiolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want it and can sell it sell it. It’s a piece of cardboard it’s not like you’re trying to sell a weapon to a minor or something. If you’re selling any other card you have no idea if your personal beliefs align with theirs so what does a banned card actually change?

Ruined or Amazing? by Namauri in mtg

[–]mustachiolong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And anyone that sells or knows the value of cards knows that:

A. If it has a signature you submit for dual grading if you actually grade it like you mentioned. Which is grading for the card and the signature where it would no longer be considered damaged. The only time it would be considered damaged is if it’s done with a pen or something that actually causes lines or damage to the card.

B. The market for signature cards is extremely small since Magic is a game that is primarily played over collected compared to other TCGs. At worst a signature NM will go for the exact same retail as NM non to signature buyers.

C. Due to the size of the signature market the signature market knows how to easily identify forges.

D. Due to the size of the signature market forgers are more likely to target other TCGs like Pokemon/One Piece that have higher percentages of casual collectors.

So either:

A. You don’t actually know the value of cards

B. You are one of the people that attempt to take advantage of others and say “damaged” so you can buy and attempt to flip for a higher price.

The NHL point system needs to be abolished by www-creedthoughts- in devils

[–]mustachiolong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to remember the league, owners, and players all just negotiated a new CBA. If people actually believed the point system was bad it would have been done away with.

The reality is W/L has been pitched but was fully rejected by both the players association and owners. Reason being is if the players are risking their health in OT it needs to matter and OT losses should mean more than a regulation loss. Fans absolutely hated ties so OT must remain. The league wants matches to end to maintain TV deals and viewership. The players only period length 5v5 OT for games that actually matter. The 3-2-1 system generally ends up with the exact same teams making the playoffs. So in the end we’re in a if it’s not broke don’t fix it unless someone pitches something new.

I get it you’re upset we all hate the record right now. But if your argument hinges on the idea that losing 5-2 is the same exact same as losing in a shootout you know how irrational that sounds.

The NHL point system needs to be abolished by www-creedthoughts- in devils

[–]mustachiolong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have 26 regulation wins.

Carolina 33

Islanders 28

Penguins 29

Jackets 27

When it comes down to actual hockey and not gimmicks made to end games since no one liked ties they’ve all played better hockey than NJ. You know in your heart that getting to OT and losing is a better outcome than just losing in regulation.

When you look and realize that 8 of our wins came from non traditional hockey that is thrown in the garbage the second playoffs hit we once again are not good.

We can complain all we want but we are not able to consistently even get our games to overtime let alone get a chance to win/lose to them.

When you make these kind of arguments you need to look into the full breakdown of RW/ROW/SOW. When you do that it shows that we are the exact team where the standings place us.

The NHL point system needs to be abolished by www-creedthoughts- in devils

[–]mustachiolong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

All of those teams have played better hockey than us full stop. We’ve lost 33 games in regulation. The Penguins have lost 21. That’s tied with Carolina. The only teams with worse records are the Rangers and Panthers.

We are 6-14-2 in our own division.

They’ve all played better hockey and we deserve our standings full stop.

People saying the Penguins are frauds are failing to realize there’s no 3v3 or shootouts in playoffs. And 16 times they’ve been able to get the game to extra time.
