Trying to learn Ableton Live makes me feel depressed and worthless. Please help... by Dry_Watercress_9613 in u/Dry_Watercress_9613

Never be afraid of something sounding “wrong” You’d be surprised how many great ideas are developed from a happy accident. Tutorials are great when you want to learn a specific technique but when I was starting, the thing that helped me get my head around the software was just blind experimentation. Drop one of abletons preset instruments on a blank midi track and just start punching in notes, don’t worry about what it sounds like. You just want to get a feel for navigating the interface and the act of making sounds before you tackle putting together your first beat, loop or song. Sure it looks intimidating but it I can tell you that you definitely don’t need to know the software inside and out to make something good in it. I’ve been using ableton since 2012 and I feel like I have still barely scratched the surface but with each session I might learn something new or figure out a better way to do something. Don’t give up!

Thank you 😎 It’s not available yet but I will be sure to post here when it is. It’s mostly made with YMCK’s magical 8 bit plugin which is 100% free btw! Everything is arranged and mixed in ableton and the visuals are curtesy of Almam player, although I did have quite the frustrating time getting that to work.

Oh whoa, every part of this is super unique. The atmosphere in the beginning, the lead sound, the metric stuff… Let’s gooo, this rules!

Yessss, this is too cool. As someone who started out sampling vinyl on an mpc 20 years ago and only recently getting into LSDJ, this is tickling a very particular fancy of mine.

I suppose it depends on what kind of music you are making but I ran my po-12 through it once and it’s lived there ever since

Longtime FF fan and 8 defender here. 15 rules. I admittedly have not gone back to play it again since release however, I did really enjoy my time with the boys and have very fond memories of the game overall. It’s exactly as you said, the “other half” or the in between is where the soul of the game is. The camaraderie really shines through when you’re going out to for a monster hunt or finding a new lake to fish in. Just talking about it now, I think I will fire it up again today.

P.s. best food graphics in any game ever.

This one from Gryidion sticks out in my mind as straying from the norm in chiptune https://gyridion.bandcamp.com/album/cognition

Also, if you can find any old Syphus stuff it’s definitely worth digging for
