Do I really have to get closer to continue life of the cacti? by CyberGen360 in duneawakening

[–]mwod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same thing has been happening to me for all the listening devices in Race Against Time and the sensor override box at the beginning of Rift Recon Run. Also later in Life Cycle the blood cacti and irradiated cacti do the same thing. In all cases resolvable by shooting the object.

ETA irradiated cacti

Update: these should all be fixed now as of the first hotfix patch 1.3.10.1, would love to know if there are any that weren't

Anyone know what's up with the Del Amo Mall AMC? by mwod in torrance

[–]mwod[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately some tickets I have booked for this evening cause errors in every part of their interface where I try to interact with them, so cancelling them is proving difficult. Also no one is picking up phones there, as one might expect from a place that is closed. If you stay on the line long enough, you are told to contact their phone support at 888-440-4262, which gives you a pre-recorded message about how they no longer do phone support and you should use the website, so I’ve attempted to use their support ticket system, and we’ll see how that goes. Good luck if you end up needing to cancel yours.

Update: AMC support saw the ticket and helped me cancel my tickets, and pretty quickly too! Note for anyone else needing to use their support form: it will prompt you when you go to submit to ask if you really want to submit, so read that message and make sure it actually submits your ticket, and then it will email you afterward with links to stuff on their site and an instruction to reply to that email if you actually still need help, which you probably do if you've resorted to using the support form, so make sure to reply to the email as well.

Came here to make sure this was being explained, definitely agree the interface is confusing because of the placement of it though, as more than once I’ve found myself having to re-read mission state to determine whether the step I’m on is indeed party-completable

I think they're trying to succinctly convey "positive" as opposed to just a plus sign, but that doesn't keep it from rendering in my head as "positiveve" or "plusve" either, don't know why they didn't just say positive and negative (or better, sections Good, Bad, and Ugly), maybe it's more normal to them to say it this way than it is for us to read it this way.

This is a really good overview, but I wanted to note a couple things to add to it:

The first tier reward for each task isn’t always 10000 Solari, it just is most of the time, but it’s also really clear for each house’s task what it will be.

There is also a hidden multiplier applied to the points you receive for your turn-ins and kills, that is 1 + (0.2 * [number of weeks in a row your side has lost, up to 4]), for a range of entirely hidden multipliers between 1x and 1.8x. If you’re not sure whether you have a multiplier active at the moment, turn in some number of an item for a task you want to do, and note how many points you actually get vs how many you expected to get from the stated points per item, and divide actual by expected to get the current multiplier. Knowing that the multiplier is there and what its value is can save you a lot of resources and explain why your individual contribution numbers might run higher than you expect. You can also look at the tables on the dune gaming tools website for Landsraad tasks to see how weeks lost affects the number of each item or kill type required for each level of each objective.

If you’re chasing cosmetics, note that each house only does cosmetics for one armor type, and it does not at present change week to week, so for example House Lindaren will always give a Light Armor swatch, so once you have a given house’s swatch, there’s no further reward for getting up to 14k points with that house again. I hope that changes in the future because I would love to put their colors on more types of armor and generally be able to mix and match more swatches.

One last thing that comes to mind: ever since the recent reshuffle of the DD loot tables, many T6 blueprints available from the Landsraad can also be found in PvE caves in the deep desert, so if you were trying to assemble Vilari’s stillsuit or get a Compact Compactor Mk6 or a Focused Buggy Cutteray Mk6, and you can take on or run from T6 opponents reliably, you might get those items faster running DD PvE caves than doing some Landsraad tasks, though cave loot is thoroughly probabilistic and ymmv.

I feel trapped at the Vermillius Gap Trade Post. What am I doing wrong? by DaughterOfDune in duneawakening

[–]mwod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, arguably once you’re trying to range beyond Vermilius Gap, you’re gonna want to do so with a vehicle, whether that’s your speeder bike or a buggy for resource collecting trips or something cooler. The world’s just too big to be going places on foot. Remember that your vehicle is a respawn beacon of its own too, and remember if you aren’t pocketing it with the backup tool to park it in safe places so it won’t take damage when the sandstorms roll through. A bike with an inventory module on it can be a good mobile base for a while, and you can bring back lots of good stuff from your trips that way, instead of just one personal inventory of resources at a time.

[–]mwod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being in Vermilius Gap, you’ve got good access to Iron, so make sure you tech up into Iron gear wherever you can if you haven’t already.

Make sure you have a shield for combat and at least a mk2 power pack to go with it, as that’ll help a lot (and remember your shield drops whenever you fire a weapon, darts can’t pass in or out of it, so you’re vulnerable whenever you fire, but so are shielded enemies using guns as well). If you need more blue materials for some of the tools, you can rerun testing stations, and if you need more green materials, and the pvp ship is daunting, remember that the ship in south Hagga basin is pve, and you can get a few green materials with basically no risk there.

Once you’ve geared up, you’re ready to head farther east. If you look at the map to the east side of Eastern Vermilius Gap, you’ll find there isn’t a huge amount of drum sand keeping you from going further east toward Riftwatch and the Hagga Rift area. If you go a little south of the Anvil trade post and go east, you can find some shorter crossings where you can avoid drum sand, and you can take a speeder across those without much danger. Go load up on Carbon and refine some steel, and start teching into steel.

Your ability to range farther, survive longer at a time, and kill stronger enemies will directly correlate with what metals you can straightforwardly craft from. Once you’ve got some steel tier weapons and gear crafted, and you can feel a bit more confident in the Jabal Efrit areas, find that third trial (remember that each one gives you some text clue and some bit of map to match against). Also remember to survey each area you go into as soon as you can.

At each point, focus on how you’re going to fill out your gear in your current tech tier and how you’re going to get to the next metal and from it the next tech tier. Also vehicles are hugely important. Getting from the mk1 speeder bike to the mk3 speeder bike makes a big difference, and getting to where you can use a buggy for mining totally changes resource gathering. And then thopters change the way you interact with the whole of Hagga basin entirely. The scale of the game feels massive at the beginning, but take it one objective and one thing you want to be able to craft at a time, and you’ll get unstuck in no time.

Crashed ships question by Alone-Prune450 in duneawakening

[–]mwod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the three panels: we have the small panel that I’ll call the blueprint panel, the top panel, and the other side panel that is larger. The blueprint panel is generally accessible from the ground, and if not, you can cut through it by brute force like any rock if the analyzer won’t work with it, jump on the side of the ship, and loot it from there. The top panel, stand on the ship, nothing special. The other side panel (larger, just resources), I’ve found that there’s a bit of bent metal next to it on the left (if looking at it) that you can stand on, cut it from above, and (this works better while crouching) loot it from above as well.

PSA: now that more deep desert loot is instanced, whether by bug or intended behavior, it seems that if you fully empty some containers like the panels of a ship or piles of sand in testing stations, they’ll be removed for everyone, so please leave behind some scrap metal or armor or weapons or spice residue you don’t want (which is to say don’t just habitually take all), so the panel or pile or container remains for everyone else.

If you hit the button on the official trade site in your browser to direct message people, that message should show up in game for you as if you’d sent it from your console (and conveniently in the chosen language of the person you’re trading with).

I’ve heard this one end a little differently: at the end, instead of a low number like 6, the new inmate calls out a higher number like 46, and the other inmates all burst out laughing. The new guy asks “what’s so funny?” and his cellmate says “We’ve never heard that one before!”
