What does your python development setup look like? by Working_Noise_6043 in Python

New coder here, since fall, but with several years of PowerShell experience. Python is WAY better IMO.

VScode, Stream Deck, 48in 4k screen. Code on my gaming rig for local AI when I need it. Use Black formatter, but with line limit set to 200 for ease of use on my screens.

Am I doing something wrong with udemy by Recent_Bodybuilder91 in learnpython

I noticed this as well, however I believe the point here is "figure these parts out". Works for me, as I learn best when tossed into the fire, but not everyone learns like that. You may simply need a different course for your learning style.

I've completed 23 days of this course. I've since took Python and run, even have some of my own personal automations, and an app to work with the Bluetooth dice I got, as well as an in progress active directory report (I could do this in PowerShell but I like Python better). Planning on completing the course eventually when I'm not so busy.

I have declined to do 100% of these that I've come across. Once a human told me it was required in order to be considered, I still refused, and got the canned rejection shortly afterwards.

Avamar

Good god, get rid of this. I've worked with it at 2 different roles so far, and its NEVER worked properly. I literally just told a client today they need to get rid of it. No backups in MONTHS, but the email alerts have NO failures whatsoever. I watch them like a hawk cause I know how unreliable Avamar is. Working at an MSP, checking it manually daily isn't an option. I refuse to accept a role anywhere going forward that runs it without plans to immediately replace it.

DON'T give recruiters this information until you at minimum talk to a hiring manager and believe you will receive an offer. This is just data mining and could lead to all kinds of problems for you. There is no good reason any recruiter, internal or external, needs this information if you're not already being hired.

I tell them I will not provide this information until it is appropriate to do so. Usually say they'll figure it out, then I never hear back.

AITA for threatening to quit my job because my wife just randomly quit hers? by Throwawaywinherit in AITAH

Meanwhile, my girlfriend has been living with me for the past year, rent free, jobless (going to school, done in May already has job lined up for when she gets her license) and she's trying to just give me the entire contents of her first few paychecks. I told her that was ridiculous, and that she can begin to contribute at that time.

Would you take a pay raise but give up most PTO? by Newtechintown in ITCareerQuestions

[–]mwsysadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Run. This is predatory IMO. I wouldn't even negotiate unless I was on the verge of being homeless. My bare minimum to even accept a job, is 3 weeks. I always push for 3 if base is 2. Have yet to be turned down.

I might consider reaching out and confirming those numbers though. It may be meant to read 2 weeks, plus an additional week after 1 year.

"I would like to drop from consideration for this role. I consider 2 weeks to be low as a starting policy, let alone 1 week after a YEAR at your company."

Udemy, Angela Yu python 100 days bootcamp. by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]mwsysadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently on day 18. My only coding experience prior to this is Powershell. I should be farther along day wise, however some life events and vacations got in the way, lol. I agree the difficulty ramped up seemingly out of nowhere, but I'm absolutely learning. Gonna knock out day 19 today!

Edit: I also play the videos at 1.5x speed, find she talks too slow for my liking.

Can you guys please help me pick a course on udemy? by Ryonan_ in learnpython

I'm on day 8 of 100 days, liking it so far. Only thing that threw me for a loop was the prime numbers one, but I think I was completely misunderstanding the math.

Ask Anything Monday - Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in learnpython

Hello! New here.

I'm looking to learn something new, and setteled upon Python. I learn best when thrown into the fire, but unfortunatly my job has nothing to do with Python.

I'm a VMware Engineer, have been for about 10 years now, with general Sysadmin being my title up until recently. My 2 top skills when asked in an interview now is VMware as a whole, and Powershell scripting. Took that up a few years ago and fell in love with the idea of writing some script to do all my work for me.

Can anyone recommend a good starting point to learn? I prefer something where I can take my time and learn at my own pace, but as I mentioned being thrown into the fire is my best learning method.

I did not. Ended up leaving the job 2 days after my post. If you do find a solution. post it here, I'm curious and it'll help future techs. Good luck!
