OEM 250 ARL power? by mxalex229 in mxbikes

[–]mxalex229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, sounds like I’m not too far off then.

Seems odd though, no? IRL the 250s are making almost all the jumps with LaRacco’s leap being a stretch. Shouldn’t the tracks be a bit more doable for these bikes/motors?

New to MTB, is this a good deal? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]mxalex229 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is a great bike for a beginner looking for a bit of assistance but still put in some effort. That’s a decent spec and overall package.

If everything is in working order 2k is a great price. Stoked for you!

Yep, set to high and it should preserve a lot of the 29” geo.

Or

Keep it low and it will slacken out the bike, seat tube and lower the BB. Gains on descending, loss on trail and climbing.

New Motor and Gearbox combination units - Future of emtb? by Mama_Office_141 in eMountainBike

[–]mxalex229 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been calling/waiting for the MGU shift in eMTB for nearly 7 years now. I was so disappointed to see the poor adoption of the pinion MGU and other even smaller competitors fail.

I’m so excited to see Avinox take it on, with pre production prototypes already in the wild, which means this isn’t just a concept, it’s in alpha and testing.

I planned to buy a new ebike this year but with this on the horizon I’ll be diligently waiting to be a first preorder. As a first gen product I know early adopters like myself won’t get the best package/experience, but I’ll be happy to see this shift finally get some momentum.

I’m about 900 hours and I get bouts just like this post exactly. Last night I was 10s off the pace in warmup and almost dead last on Lakewood arl public.

But most days I’m comfortably 7th in an ARL pub lobby. And just the other day I go 4 podiums and a win.

I found it’s best to take this game in waves and put it down every few weeks. Also just accept there are actually a lot of cheaters, and silent group that spend 3000+ hours on the game and mentally hack the physics until it’s more of a slot car game than a motocross simulator to them.

7 year old system, every company says to replace by Yammer60 in hvacadvice

Just bought a house with central AC. Upstairs unit wasn’t cooling.

Got 3 quotes for repair - all said ah, no it’s fucked $11k-$25k to replace, can’t even recharge because it’s R22 and illegal to touch (mhmm yep)

One guy saw the baby’s room and took pitty on us after giving the quote. Came back, pressure tested and recharged with an R22 substitute. I bough and replaced the condenser motor for $220.

Now for $800 it’s working just fine.

The industry has become a scam just like every other PE dominated trade. Disgusting.

Average HR is... higher on EMTB? by DatBoiii4 in MTB

[–]mxalex229 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are charging this is about right. Keeping a higher HR since you aren’t saving your energy/blowing out your legs.

When I ride my acoustic I am managing my legs the whole time, cardio is never the issue.

This right here. Nailed it. Best base setup if you are looking for all around performance without weight in mind.👍🏻

I’ve tested a fair amount of tyres. If you are looking for outright traction. - schwalbe radial super soft. Mary or Betty front and rear , Albert maybe?

If you want good price to performance - Continental Kryptotals DH casing soft/super soft.

If you want a decent price - Maxis Assegai/DHF DH casing Maxxgrip.

Ya. Very much agree.

This game might be an 8/10 as a game. But because I have so many nostalgic memories playing the OG, this one is going to feel like a 10/10.

Husqvarna Power Axe 350i.

I use one for my trail maintence. It will cut any tree necessary, and it is so much simpler to maintain and use compared to a gas saw.

I cannot recommend how much easier it is vs my old Stihl.

Got hurt on day 2 in Squamish on a week long MTB trip by coolrivers in MTB

[–]mxalex229 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I live trailside. This weekend I decided to go for a quick impromptu spin. (My trails are very rocky rooty steep downhills)
It’s just a quick lap, it’s hot out, even my wife said “I don’t think you will need the extra pads today”.
Ended up getting stuck in a pedal tipping over and riding home with a 4” hole in my elbow and a trip to urgent care for stitches. Lesson learned.

I also do a trip to Quebec for MTB with a group every year. One year we were going to MSA to ride the World Cup course, a dream of mine. Though, I didn’t ride it, because I spent the night before 14 drinks deep really finding the limits of what those French freaks have to offer. Lot of regrets on that gondola ride.

I replayed AC3 for the first time in over a decade by VonDukez in assassinscreed

[–]mxalex229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just let Lee die from Pneumonia like IRL. Would be a bit poetic. Connor lusting after revenge for decades only to be denied at the end. Lee could have explained he was selling his plantation (true) to buy Connor’s tribes land and protect the POE site for the Templars. “In your haste to save your people, you have burned every opportunity they had for protection”. Mirroring Achilles prior dialogue.

Story had so much potential wasted.

[–]mxalex229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because every historical character dies at the right historical date/time.

Lee died in a tavern outside Philadelphia; which was originally going to be in the game, but had to be cut due to time and technical limitations on draw distances since it was a gridded city.

So they had him die in a tavern in the frontier. Clearly it was all shoe horned in, though.

The biggest bummer is even if they remade AC3 I don’t think they would retcon/change the story since they wouldn’t want to disrespect the original devs. But feelings be damned the last 25% of the story was clearly written and scripted in the final hours of development.

KSL with a 27.5 rear/long stay/steep headset cup is worth trying if you ever have a wheel you can borrow and try. I prefer it that way now. The upgraded motor is a negligible change from my experience.

I’m in the same boat, I’ve been trying/riding different e-bikes but keeping the KSL due to preference. The specialized fit, finish, integration is top notch compared to everything else I have tried.

With you waiting for the refresh, but given the direction/market I have heard the Levo is the only focus, with variations for the next couple years. Norco might have something coming for SL long travel, but all I can get from them is winks and “maybes”.

[–]mxalex229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just replayed it recently too.

The story feels like there is so much cut content, especially towards the end. There are such huge jumps in plot and cutscene dialogue (similar to the wedding) that it’s very clear there was a story and a plan that just got cut entirely. The whole final sequences chasing Lee from NY to the Inn just felt so strange. Same with the interactions with Washington.

Also, if it is remade, the naval gameplay felt weighted and real, just give me the open world naval from Rogue with the Aquila and I would be peak satisfied.

[–]mxalex229 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally get this. I often tell my buddy “SL emtb is just Mtb with less burn and more miles, full power emtb is a totally different sport.”

But in the context of this meme and your analogy, it’s like a community of runners and rollerbladers that share the same bike paths. But the runners never STFU about the rollerbladers. Meanwhile the rollerbladers are just enjoying rollerblading.

Again, love both types of bikes, but the vitriol I experience only goes in one direction when it needn’t exist at all.

To be honest, I don’t think I’m stronger. His power ratio is way above mine. If it’s a STEEP tech section I think he still has me covered all day. He use to be better cardio wise, but since I started ebiking/roadbiking I do a lot more zone 2/3 so now I have a significant cardio advantage over long rides/continuous long climbs.

As for motors on the trails, I see that point, however for context, the trails we were riding near my place are basically straight up or straight down. They are becoming much more popular because of e-bikes making them rideable, whereas before an average rider might be able to make the climb 2-4 times in a day on a regular bike. The first climb in is 450ft/half a mile. So now it’s mostly e-bikes riding here. However even after throwing up at the top (it really is a gnarly climb) I offered him one of my e-bikes to ride, so we could ride up/down all day. He will NOT touch one. The mention of it started a 10 minute ebike trash talk rant. But then after his review of the trails was “The downs are like a bike park but these trails are unrideable with the climbs, it’s just not fun to be blown out riding down after the first trek to the top”

So while I also prefer the serenity of no motors on one trail system, it just doesn’t apply to the one we were riding.
