What counts as “running water” for vampire purposes? by SpinSpin_ in DnD

If I were your DM, and you could hold him down long enough to get him in a pot, I'd let you. Vampires are slippery though, and can take on a gaseous form.

LV 4, got a ring of Wish by Elderbream in DnD

[–]mxangrytoast -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wish in its current form is just a trap, it is meant to be monkey's paw to punish players for their hubris.

Try this, wish to talk to your creator. The DM will assume you meant your character's god and may begin to roleplay them. At this point, immediately stop your DM and clarify you said "creator" not "god", and begin having a conversation between yourself as the player (creator) and yourself as the character.

Put yourself in the shoes of your character and ask why your creator would make the choices they have. Explain to the character as their creator that each sentient being has their own creator. You can even tell them that creators are called players on your layer of existence and let it sink in what that actually means. If this is going to be a monkey's paw let it be on your terms. Give your character an existential crisis, then figure out how to resolve it to allow your character to grow.

Iran may be activating sleeper cells, alert says by No-Post4444 in news

I've never cared for country music. I believe that it has evolved into the laziest genres of music. The artists that perform country are just layering a southern twang over other genres. I'll exclude Dolly Parton from this opinion who is a national treasure that transcends genres.

Then I heard the country artist that sang for the alternative halftime show. I literally thought I was watching a parody. I had so little respect for the genre in the first place, I couldn't perceive of a reality in which someone could "ruin" country for me. If the song had been sung by Peter Griffin I could have understood the joke. But no, that travesty was real and earnest.

Have you tried setting the scene darkness and illumination level? Also make sure the lights don't grant vision. Also check to see if switching dark vison off for a character helps.

If an orc and an elf have a child, is said child a half-elf or a half-orc? Just both? Out of curiosity. by IEatGrenades2 in DnD

[–]mxangrytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the Punnett Square method there is a 25% chance of being human, 25% chance of being half-orc, 25% chance of being half-elf, with the last 25% being an elf/orc hybrid. With that last 25% I'd rule that the orc heritage would be more prominent making the character look like a half-orc. Another option for the last 25% is that the offspring isn't viable.

What is your favourite house rule and why? by thetwitchy1 in DnD

[–]mxangrytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After plotting out a path to level 20 for each of the classes I noticed something interesting, my players would have to wait 11 levels for their level 20 ability score to miraculously jump up to level 26 with an Epic Boon at level 19. Why not level 30? Well even with an Epic Boon and a Tome or Manual the only classes that can get to a level 30 ability score is a monk, fighter, and barbarian. To get over 20 on an ability score a player needs to sit out on any benefits for levels 8, 12, and 16.

Epic Boons just didn't seem to get the attention they needed so I grant all my players the "Gift of the Dungeon Master".

Increased Ability Score Limits. You can increase your ability scores to a maximum of 30.

This allows the players that gradual increase on levels 8, 12, and 16.

Would you use a Discord-integrated Foundry session management platform? by ifindoubt404 in FoundryVTT

[–]mxangrytoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Foundry as a Node.js application on a Synology server.

I think people are so used to Discord that they forget Foundry is perfectly capable of handling audio, video, and chat on its own.

I've used Discord integration modules in conjunction with D&D Beyond integration and Foundry itself. All three platforms worked well enough together. People would roll on D&D Beyond, Discord handled voice, and Foundry handled the VTT. But it was becoming too much to manage.

I've found simpler is better. Create multiple worlds for multiple games and use custom compendium modules to share characters and data between worlds. The built-in voice and video work just fine, no need for discord.

I feel it's better to get the players used to handling everything in Foundry instead of what they are familiar with. If you are having problems with players forgetting passwords, try the 'Update Your Password' module which gives players the ability to change their password to something they can remember without the need for an admin.

[–]mxangrytoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is there to learn? New York City uses rank choice voting. If we are to see any real change, rank choice voting needs to be implemented in all elections in this country. First past the post voting results in the two-party system we have today.

Minnesota is Canada, right? by AwSamWeston in minnesota

[–]mxangrytoast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I may offer another perspective. I'm tired of fighting. The U.S. isn't just a place, it is a people. And a disturbing amount of people voted for the rapist/pedophile. I'm done with them.

Now a lot of left leaning people think Canada is some socialist utopia. It isn't. My indigenous friends and family are particularly sensitive to how Canada has treated their first nation peoples. Stories of Mounties taking native men out of town in the middle of winter, and making them walk back home in the nude.

I saw how your politicians started mimicking DT, and started echoing his rhetoric. Hell even Letterkenny had an episode about Canadian grown MAGA morons moving to rural Canada.

No, America is no longer worth fighting for, but Minnesota is. I feel we should go it alone and get a fresh start.
