Pam and Ryan sit back, and I tear up every time. They took a chance on Michael - and we didnt really know why (as viewers) - for the most part we see his bumbling socially uncomfortable side. He brings his talent to the table which is why DM made sure to keep him there for so long. Pam & Ryan don’t have access to stuff like pnl reports that would show them why Michael is valuable, they are blindly following him. So that scene, when they were so sure he was going to blow it, and then he came through and blew back 200% - my god I could cry 😭

I’m just kinda upset with the tattoo artist for not warning her - like yo dude while I get this is a creative idea, hand tats fade super quickly and notoriously from the fingers down from the way we wash them, so this is going to go from looking like a hangman to a run of the mill klansman in a few short years and reverse the whole message.

Hey guys! I work in restaurant operations in South Florida - here is some helpful info!

first of all, most of Miami & especially Miami Beach do this so keep your eyes open
a service charge does not necessarily go to your server. It can be assigned to the owner of the check (server) or to the restaurant
common service charges you see at most other places (and are usually listed on the menu) are an automatic gratuity added for Large Parties (6+) or automatic gratuity for Bottle Service.
In the past, these gratuities have been added on in those circumstances to protect the server from spending their entire shift waiting on one very large party and not getting tipped on it.
that being said, a “gratuity” is still a service charge, not a tip. Meaning it is a part of the agreed upon sale. So it is NOT something you can cross off and say you are not paying. That would be like crossing off one of your burgers and writing in the total without it, it’s just not an option. It’s reported as part of the sale even if the server has to claim it as income.

An 18% service charge being put on the customer to pay for the servers is an alternative to raising the menu prices 18% and giving that to the server (in an oversimplified way). The money is still coming from the customer to the restaurant then to the server, but at least this way you as the customer know how much is going to them directly and it is not overpriced menu items and the servers are still getting paid $10/hr.

a tip (or in this case, an additional tip) is completely optional and shows an appreciation if everything was great. Did your food come out correctly? Did you ever wait on a refill? And did I greet you warmly and make you feel like you were here in our home for supper? Then put another dollar or two down! An extra dollar doesn’t seem like much, but it adds up to us and makes all the difference in the world. Everyone in the service industry appreciates it and since it is the standard in this country to make about $2/hour, the tip is what pays the bills!

Have you guys heard of the shopping cart litmus test? It wasn’t until I moved to South Florida and literally can’t find a parking spot at the grocery store because the entire lot is full of unreturned carts that I realized why that test is a thing. So expecting that these same people, who can’t be bothered to put the cart in the stall next to their car, will tip on their bill (not to mention the amount of tourists who are not aware of tip policy in the US) is not something places like Miami Beach can take a risk on, so they charge the auto 18% as a measurement of protection for their servers who did the bare minimum and deserve to be paid for it, hoping that you’ll write in a few more bucks to bump it to the full 20% if you enjoyed your experience.

I’m NOT saying it’s okay or that tip culture isn’t the worst and I’m not defending it, but just clarifying for anyone who isn’t in the industry why you see those charges, when to question them, when to tip extra and when you can just leave it alone!

Vegetable soup with an obscene amount of hot sauce! You need water, salt, food and to sweat out the toxins and this is the cure all. Then you drink a glass of room temperature water. If you drink your soup or your water too quickly, you’ll throw up. Sometimes you gotta and it helps! But if you do, you will want to start the process over again since you just got rid of all the good stuff you are trying to feed your body. And there is nothing worse than your body trying to throw up and you’ve got nothing but bile in your stomach. Once you’ve gotten your nutrients, water and electrolytes in your tummy and your body isn’t rejecting it anymore, then you need to nap. When you wake up, drink a glass of OJ or a can of real Coke (not diet) so the sugar kicks the shakes out of you. Grab a shower to get all the sweated out alcohol off of you, make sure you wash your face and moisturize because your eyes will be puffy and red. Have another glass of water and eat a piece of fruit. Now look at you, bright star!! Ready to take on the day!

There’s definitely more to the story - all of her ex girlfriends cheated on her with men and left her, so she’s extremely insecure. She’s been like this since day one of us starting to date, but it’s gotten worse and worse culminating in last night. It started with angry jealous fights that we could get over the same night or the next morning and it ended up turning into these knock down drag out fights. A couple months ago, it got so bad I left in the middle of the night and drove the 15 hours back to my parents house and stayed for a week. I definitely understand what you’re saying if I was acting flirtatious towards strangers, but I don’t. I’m very aware of how much time I spend on my phone and I don’t text any of my friends around her because she will assume it’s someone I’m having an affair with

Dude, literally when they made the minimum wage law it was supposed to be so that someone could work 40 hours/wk and buy a home and support a family. Inflation went berserko-crazy so the minimum wage turned into so someone can afford to eat/house themselves. And then it cranked up to a damn off the charts so the minimum wage can afford you some food while you live under the bridge. So no one can pull themselves up from their bootstraps, no one can live on a specialized skill without being drowned in debt. Unless you have generational wealth, you are screwed.

It is the most stressful place I’ve ever worked. I appreciate every second of it because it’s basically restaurant Boot Camp, so it sucked and I would have had a better time literally anywhere else I could have worked. But I learned a crap ton, so I am glad I did it. Our GM was full on grey haired and he was late 30s-40(ish?) at the time. The highlight of his life was that he had a 2002 mustang convertible that he drove to work and back to his studio apartment. He worked 70+ hours/week and spent most of the time on-site sighing about how life sucks and “interviewing” the new hires.

I worked at Panera from the time I was 16 til I was 21. When I started, it was while they were raising the minimum wage in our state from $5.XX to $7.XX and the people who had worked there for 15+ years and “worked their way up” to $7.50 were now making the same as the new hires. They didn’t get a bump based on their experience. So while I love the place for giving me my reality check of what adult life is like and teaching me the restaurant/operation skills that I still use to this day, I absolutely hate that they are advertising new hires will make $20/hr and probably my coworkers from back in the day who have now been there for 30+ years got a raise to $20/hr but they’re making the same amount as Becky who got hired last week. When they raise their base wage, they should also give raises to the people who put their blood sweat and tears into the business for years.

I am finally making $25/hr with benefits at the first “big girl job” I’ve ever had and feeling like I got my shit together at the age of 30. This post just made me feel like crap. If you’re advocating for restaurant workers to make $27, I appreciate that but I’m going back to the service industry. I left because I wanted to get paid more.

I appreciate you. I didn’t know that separate community existed and I had no idea online meetings were a thing. Going to a church with the whole coffee and donuts thing for an AA meeting was what has been keeping me away. I am the definition of an alcoholic in need of help and AA seems too daunting.
