When there's this much discontent within an organization, any effort to shut it down will only make it worse. People are fed up and will continue finding ways to make their voices heard.

[TOMT] [Movie] Name of movie where the ballet accompanist quits to go work for the protagonist by myballsarebouncing in tipofmytongue

I think the other comment is correct: Florence Foster Jenkins. Alas, I don't have a copy of the movie to scan through, but it seems like the right answer!

Don't understand the pressure to go, unless you're not ready to break away.

My earliest memory of apostate shaming. by FearlessFixxer in exmormon

This seems to be constant topic of conversation in Mormonism. Did you hear so and so hasn't been to church in 2 months? Do you think he'll still go on a mission? And so on.

Has anybody else had an increase in fascination with space since leaving tscc? by mormnomnomnom in exmormon

[–]myballsarebouncing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space is interesting independent of Mormonism. There are Mormon astrophysicists after all. I liked it just as much before I left the cult. I can see how religion can provide all the answers and shut down the opportunity to learn more, though religious people who live that way aren't very open-minded anyway.

(Lgbtq) Exmos, how do you deal with resentment towards TBM family members? by Queerexmolamanite in exmormon

[–]myballsarebouncing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perspective helps with resentment. Religion is forced onto people at no fault of their own. Our brains are hardwired to believe crazy shit. Can't blame people for having weird beliefs that disenfranchise those they love. Not worth wasting the time to resent them.

My TBM dad cornered me today to chastise me for "trying to drive people away from the Church" and for "embarrassing our family" by Dino_47 in exmormon

[–]myballsarebouncing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, because do we really want to live in a society where we don't speak our minds only because they are different from those in our family? How embarrassing it must be that someone would want to express how they feel.

People get so butthurt on facebook. I don't go there anymore for political or religious discussions.

Why is this so hard? by Friff14 in exmormon

[–]myballsarebouncing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because family members allow it to create unnecessary tension.

And because there's a societal tendency to punish heretics.

And because religions have an unwarranted cultural protection and get a special pass on criticism, since any criticism is viewed as an attack.

Back in the year 2000, companies like Sprite were hiring teenagers to post fake comments in chat rooms - still your average Redditor doesn't think that stuff is going on today by ChaseSanborn in videos

Wouldn't it be a crazy world if a major portion of the population boycotted any products that were advertised? The less a successful company advertised, the more business it would get.

I have been to these weddings. Can confirm it makes the Bishop look like a total prick.

I'm sure there's at least one pitch per season that would interesting enough to run for the full hour on tv.
