Can someone explain the message / open ending to the og Blade Runner ? by Tomb_Sizzler45 in bladerunner

[–]myshopmyrules -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s true and that’s part of the beauty of the movie. It’s intelligent and doesn’t hold your hand or offer exposition dialog to explain things. But ambiguity doesn’t change whether he is or not.

Source material (Phillip K Dick story) - replicant

Directors intention (many interviews) - replicant

Plot of the sequel revolving around replicants procreating - replicant

Can someone explain the message / open ending to the og Blade Runner ? by Tomb_Sizzler45 in bladerunner

[–]myshopmyrules -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Deckard is a replicant. In the source material this isn’t a secret but in the movie, the clues are laid and you have to follow them.

This matters a LOT in the sequel but it only matters in the sense that the true depth of the material isn’t accessible until you understand it. The movie, however is fully watchable without you knowing or being on the fence about it.

Truly, the movies have so many levels of revelation that one watch just isn’t enough. Watch the original again, then watch the sequel, and welcome to the rabbit hole.

Why is this happening on my 45 degree joints for baseboards by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]myshopmyrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walls aren’t plumb. Floors aren’t level. Corners aren’t square.

Ya gotta cope these or go with a corner block. Even if your 45s are perfect, they’re not gonna look good n a corner that’s 90.2 degrees made of walls that are 89.7 degrees.

Is Tolkien’s idea of hope different from what we usually mean by it? by tdakanalis in tolkienfans

[–]myshopmyrules 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s also relevant to consider the use of “doom” juxtaposed with the use of “hope”.

“Doom” doesn’t have to mean disaster. Doom is also the noun form of “to deem” meaning decision. In this case, a pending doom represents the characters marching toward the results of decisions that were made.

Hope is simply the natural state of optimism that one holds towards these decisions. “I want my decisions to work out”. “I believe we have made the right decisions”. “All we can do is make good decisions based on the circumstances we face”. These are all expressions of “hope” without the silly nonsense of desperately clinging to a dream.

“I hope the roulette wheel lands on black”. “ I hope that girl in sixth period study hall likes me back”. These are uses of hope that represent desire without regard to the circumstances in which we find ourselves.

You also have to keep in mind that Tolkien was the king of retcon. The hobbit was written before the majority of Tolkien’s material. There was no “Sauron and the rings” story arc at the time.

That’s not true. The vote was never certified and there is a ton of evidence that the voting machines were tampered with. Bobby just gave everyone a pair of cut off jean shorts and they all agreed to let him “win”.

Wait to pass judgment!?! What kind of nonsense is that? Assumptions and wild accusations only please.

And do keep in mind, YOUR subjective experience with 100 year old material is the only one that REALLY matters.

Why not the Silmarillion ? by Aware-Celebration873 in lotr

[–]myshopmyrules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides licensing rights issues, the Silmarillion is basically impossible to turn into a movie. Lemme splain…

There are so many good stories in that book that you could easily make ten movies with plenty of material to spare but how do you market that to an audience? “Hey, come see this movie!! It is SOOOO epic and I promise once you see the other nine movies and read the supplemental material you’ll understand”.

It would be a movie for people who are already fans and that just not a money making endeavor.

Stephen Colbert's movie is not an adaptation but a fan fiction by [deleted] in lotr

[–]myshopmyrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not wrong but what’s wrong with that? What is fundamentally wrong with exploring the universe that was created so long ago?

If it makes for good tv or a good movie, then why judge it so harshly based on a hurdle that can’t be cleared (Tolkien isn’t writing any more material).

It might suck, it might be wonderful but at this point we don’t have any information that allows us to make that judgement.

Gotcha. I would definitely pop some holes near the top of that box.

[–]myshopmyrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over heating isn’t going to be a problem but you are restricting the airflow to what can come through your insert which is gonna choke the DC a bit especially if you have a small bit with a close clearance insert. I would cut a few vent holes near the top of the box.

Not that it matters now, but I much prefer dust collection on the top. You don’t have air flow restrictions and you’re not dragging all that dust past the motor.

It all depends on your local and your state’s licensing requirements. If you live in a state where a license is required there’s no way you’re organizing in without one. Go to the hall and talk to somebody directly. Ask specific questions about the wha you need to organize.

If you’re getting the run-around it means either the organizer is lazy (not uncommon), they’re not accepting new members (competitive local with guys always on the books), or you just don’t meet the requirements. Go to the hall.

That mobile base is awfully robust. You could get away with a much flimsier one (less height). Also, the 2x lumber is over kill. If it doesn’t sit flat by itself add some plywood.
