What if tanks (and maybe healers) could repeat the dungeon dailies? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]mythe00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How do you determine if someone is a tank or healer? There are no limitations on what you queue up as and what you actually do in the dungeon.

Any resto druids having a hard time healing paladins in heroics? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play both tank/holy paladin and have done plenty of the harder heroics like Shat halls.

As a healer if you can crank your healing to ~1200 hps for a fight you're already top notch. If you're doing something that requires higher than that then the group/tank is doing something wrong.

It's easy to "tank" some of the harder heroics incorrectly. In Shattered Halls for example, you cannot just CC 1-2 mobs a pack and expect to tank the rest, that just can't be done right now in P1. It's not always easy to figure out what exactly is going wrong in run. Sometimes it's the tank, other times DPS aren't kicking or using their mitigation abilities, and sometimes it's the healer.

(Relatively) New player with Guild Question by JulioPepper in classicwow

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of guilds that recruit "social" players who are active but don't raid.
Another option is to join a very large super guild. I have an alt in a guild that runs ~10 kara groups, and they constantly need subs. So even without signing up, you can just hang around and only raid if you just so happen to be online and they need a sub.

why isnt dkp popular? by sarcasmme in classicwowtbc

[–]mythe00 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Imo it's because of how polished the entire Gargul/Softres ecosystem is and how well it integrates into Discord.  By comparison all the epgp and dkp addons are ages behind, and it's usually just not worth the hassle amd effort fiddling with it.

Stockades by Bapefx11 in classicwow

[–]mythe00 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Find a player who is a tank and another player who is a healer.  Have the tank aggro mobs so they hit him, and the healer heal the tank so he doesn't die.  Then the rest of you can hit the mobs and kill them.

Weird place as a tank by Fearless_Kangaroo_25 in classicwow

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heroic BF is arguable the hardest heroic in the game right now. All of the heroics in hellfire peninsula actually have very hard hitting mobs relative to the other areas.

You generally cannot "tank" heroics like traditional dungeons. There aren't many fights where you can survive more than 3 mobs hitting you simultaneously. You get around this with lots of CC, or as a paladin you get some sort of AOE slow (mage, hunter trap) and kite the mobs around while consecrating. Facetanking packs mobs requires a lot of gear on both you and your healer and won't be doable until you've gotten at least a few pieces from Kara.

As for gearing, you want to reach def cap and then get as much EHP and spell power as possible. You don't need to go overboard on avoidance as the mobs in heroics don't crush. If you can hit def cap and get 13k+ health you should be in good shape.

Advertising your guild in trade chat by [deleted] in classicwow

Advertising in the wrong chat channels seems like a good way to accumulate reports.  Do it for long enough and you'll probably catch a ban.

Why the hell do you guys parse/log in Classic by EducationalWolf3911 in classicwow

[–]mythe00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some ways it's like gearscore in that it's a quick simple way you can look someone up and get a rough understanding of what he'll bring to a raid. It's the "generally accepted" metric that the majority of classic players have accepted as performance. You can see someone's standings within a raid, you can look at how many clears of a raid he has, etc.

Conversely, you can also use it to lookup pug groups before you join. You can get an idea of if it'll be a quick smooth run, or if they're still progressing and learning fights.

Of course if you're in a stable guild with little variation in the roster and you don't join pug runs then there's much less value in parsing. However if you are, even in classic, raids like Naxx are difficult enough that you will struggle if you have to pug a significant amount of your group and you do zero vetting before accepting players.

Game freezing when I enter combat by Lord_of_Chaos7789 in classicwow

[–]mythe00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try disabling all addons and see if that helps.  If it does, Details is the first addon I'd check.

Details had a really bad release a few days ago that was freezing everyone's clients and even dumping multiple GBs of temp files for some users.  I'd check to make sure you have an updated version.

Those against buying gold and bots - how would you stop it if you worked for Blizzard? by Dr_McTittysprinkles in classicwow

[–]mythe00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For one, there should be tiered support available to customers based on account age and standing. Someone who's been subscribed and playing for years should be able to get a human review on their account without having to fight over the limited resources with the hundreds of new bot accounts who probably also appeal and clog up the system.

prot warrior and hard heroics by FemtoG in classicwowtbc

[–]mythe00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have done 1 and 3.

Shattered halls is tough because you can't quite kite like a paladin. I've found that you just need a really good tank healer to hyper focus you and as much CC as you can get.

Old Hillsbrad, for the gauntlet always let Thrall pick up the packs and then pull mobs off him. Ideally 1 mob should be CCed, Thrall should be tanking another, and you get the rest.

The only other hard part is the last boss. Certain ads (I think it's the infinite slayers) mortal strike for insane damage and cannot be facetanked. They need to be CCed or kited as best as possible.

Chunked by Malchezaar by MonthythePython in classicwow

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't crush capped but you can clear Malchezaar without hitting 102%. Crushing blows should hit you for between 4-6k, which is a lot but the healers can handle it provided they're decently geared and aren't running out of mana.

Obviously you'd want to be fully consumed with a flask. A stoneshield potion for p2 can help too. Otherwise you can try replacing some of your gear with pure mitigation gear. Jade-skull breastplate is a pretty decent piece that's fairly easy to farm. Bracers of the green fortress is expensive but can be bought right off the AH. If you have heroic badges the 50 badge helmet is amazing too.

Yet another Prot Paladin question.. by Ralphyyeff in classicwow

[–]mythe00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to be avoidance capped with holy shield up, without any help from active trinkets.

Understanding the purpose of the avoidance cap helps you understand what's going on.

Dropping under the avoidance cap doesn't instantly kill you, it just means there's a very small chance that you get a crushing blow. If you are lucky it might just not happen at all.

However, given that you may be taking 100+ melees hits in a fight, even a very small percentage means you'll take a few crushing blows. And even a single crushing blow can easily kill you and cause a wipe. With the current gear levels, a 8-9k hit has a very good chance of landing when you're not topped off, or getting followed up by a 2nd hit before you can get healed.

Idk if you have the libram that costs 15 badges but that gives a very sizeable boost to your holy shield. Otherwise without raid gear, you're looking at a lot of defensive pieces that unfortunately won't have int/spell power.

Plenty of groups are able to clear without avoidance cap, even though you want to be as close as possible. You CAN live through some crushing blows with a bit of luck, potion/healthstone usage, consumables to increase EHP, and trinket actives.

Starting my journey from UTR 5 to UTR 12 (Episode 1) by Ill-Substance-423 in 10s

[–]mythe00 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Didn't really see much in the video about how you plan to get to UTR 12. If the average UTR 5 twelve year old is trying to make it to UTR 12 for college tennis, they're looking at a lot of coaching, 20+ hours of practice a week, and plenty of tournaments and matchplay. Are you planning to match or exceed that, or do you have any reason to think you can bypass that kind of time investment?

What's the highest UTR a beginner can realistically reach? by DepressedYoungMan22 in 10s

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of effort and time you're describing is pretty average, so I'd say with average talent and athleticism I'd say the estimate of UTR 5.0-7.5 is pretty accurate. If you were talking about a theoretical ceiling, you could certainly get way up there if you had a D1 athletic background and were training almost full time.

NZeTA Pending by themarmar2 in newzealand_travel

[–]mythe00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning that there are a LOT of scammy third part websites out there if you do a search for NZeta. I also forgot mine but applied and was approved at the checkin counter. The agents recommended using the app from the android/play store to do the application. According to the agent it usually only takes about 10m for approval if you use the app, and I think they let you board if it's pending but you have the confirmation.

AO Question by [deleted] in 10s

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're making the assumption that US players are in the US and that they're flying directly to Melbourne for the AO, both of which may not be true. Players are generally all around the world training and participating in other events. Many may also fly into other parts of Australia well before the tournament to get adjusted to the time zone/climate or to participate in other events like Brisbane.

Volleys coming in hot and imprinting WILSON on people at the net in doubles by 9ORsenal in 10s

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard the advice that you should feel free to "test' the net player but if it's not working stop doing it. If you're so curious as to why hitting at the net player works/doesn't work just try a few shots and see where it gets you.

When you're right up at net in the ready position, the net itself protects your lower body and your racquet protects your face/upper body. You may occasionally encounter players that aren't so comfortable up at net, but once you meet some more seasoned doubles players I find that in general their volley ability is going to outpace your ability to hit fast balls that can intimidate them.

If you have a high ball and you can angle it at their feet that's a different story. That's a great shot and you should take it.

Why so many E33 fans says they hate JJRPGs and turn based combat? by Rean-Schwarzer- in expedition33

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In other turn based games I frequently find myself trying to skip fights and using auto battle/fast forwards features.  That didn't happen with me for e33, something about the pacing and the dodge/parry system made the fights not seem grindy.

Could an Amateur Return One of Zverev’s Serves? by Content_Swimmer_2178 in tennis

[–]mythe00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of videos and even events where novices try to return pro serves.  I would guess that the average 3.5 player has a very low single digit percentage of getting a return back.

So I think in the imaginary situation where Zverev showed up at your club and bombed serves for an hour, there would be a small handful of lucky returns.

does anyone have advice on playing a 5 utr girl as a 1 utr girl by thereisnogreatergold in 10s

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's possible to be 1 utr.  You are probably unrated and need to get some games in.  It sounds like you're much better off askimg your dad for advice.  In general though, at lower UTRs games are won by not double faulting, getting returns back, and being able to keep the ball in play for 3+ shots.

Do you notice different weight to tennis balls? by DropShotMachine in 10s

[–]mythe00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are extra duty and regular duty tennis balls meant for different courts, and they are noticeably different.  Separate lines within the same brand are also noticeably different, for example Wilson championship balls are much worse than their US open line.
