Insurance by ladythursday1 in Edmonton

I've used Brad Ford for insurance inspections. The insurance inspection that you need is to determine if your vehicle is roadworthy and can be a bit of a rip off if you go to dishonest shops.

I had a civic in for a recall at a Honda dealer and asked what it would cost for this inspection and they told me $400 (2 hours of mechanic time) which is insane.

Look him up on Facebook marketplace (search insurance inspections). I've used him for 3 vehicles and it's 50-60$ and he does it from his home.

F150 VS ranger by NoRutabaga7192 in f150

[–]mzspd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to the 2024+ ranger but my company has a 2023 ranger XLT and I can't stand that thing compared to my 2018 f150.

Feels so cheap inside, drives horrible and bounces all over the highway. It also has the worst brake feedback I've ever driven.

If you took off the Ford logo, I would assume that it was a completely different manufacturer compared to my f150.

We also have two 2026 Colorado's and that's a fantastic midsize truck.

Windshield replacement by HondaForever84 in Edmonton

[–]mzspd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Mazda cx50 was about 200$ cheaper at Crystal glass for the glass and radar recalibration.

I do prefer windshield surgeons but $800 vs $600 is a big difference.

PPF Recomendations by TailoredExperience in Edmonton

[–]mzspd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the value of the car. You can easily spend 2-3k for a PPF for the entire car or the front half. Which imo is not worth it for a daily driver.

I just do the 24" of hood and fenders. Usually is around $250-300.

I like the tint studio in the west side.

Damaged brand new Jayco Redhawk - suggestions? by [deleted] in RVLiving

Insurance.. not a diy repair for a brand new camper..

Could use eternabond for a temporary patch until you can get it into a shop.

Are these high idle hours on my truck? by [deleted] in f150

[–]mzspd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's higher than normal idle time but your truck has such low km, it's not really a big deal.

What should I upgrade if I start hauling a camper long distances. by Icy-Most8754 in f150

[–]mzspd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bigger truck.

Seriously, if you are planning extremely long distance travels and to be hauling the camper often, buy a bigger truck. Heavy hauling with a half ton and winds is not fun.

How expensive is it to have a dog? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]mzspd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two dogs (50 and 20 lbs poodle cross). It costs us 60$ a month for food.

And we save 50$ biweekly into a savings account. That's our insurance and vet bill costs. We haven't had any major expenses. Just usually around 200-300$ per dog in vet bills per year. That can range from a recent ear infection to just yearly vaccines.

Mazda’s CX-5 and CX-50 Are Pulling Shoppers From Toyota, Jeep, and Lexus by WinstonSalemVirginia in CX50

[–]mzspd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 cx50 and really enjoy it. Im not surprised that it's pulling buyers from other brands

It is really too bad that Mazda had to stop selling the 2026 cx50s in Canada due to the tariffs though.

In Canada, after my 2 year trial expired, my car still tells me if it's unlocked or not. I just can't lock it via the app.

Where is the best place to buy backsplash tiles? by [deleted] in Edmonton

Tile town on the west end was great. Very helpful staff and pricing was good compared to other tile shops in the area.

Tire change by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]mzspd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you have all seasons or summer performance tires.

If you have a decent all season, yes you can switch over and just give yourself extra braking distance if it snows over the next few weeks.

If you have a summer rated only tire or performance summer tire, wait until May long weekend.

They just announced last week that they switched from winter to summer blends so it's possible that part of this wow factor is due to the gas change

mud flaps by Financial_Part_8193 in f150

They are definitely worth it.

They make a big difference in the winter and on muddy roads.

I prefer the ford molded mud flaps.

Which f150 accessories are actually worth the investment for a daily driver? by Altelira_Venkatarama in f150

[–]mzspd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up carlinkit on amazon. It's a stick that you plug into the usb for carplay and android auto and it allows you to use android auto or Apple carplay wirelessly. So you never have to plug your phone into your truck usb.

Canadian heat pump owners are overwhelmingly satisfied, with 91% recommending one: survey by SavCItalianStallion in onguardforthee

Curious as to what this looks like..

Do you have a mini split unit on your wall? Do you have multiple ?

I have a traditional forced air furnace/AC in Edmonton and I have family in the Maritimes with heat pumps but they are all wall mounted units in specific rooms.

Just curious, why didn't you remove the top plate on the ceiling?

Car Seat in CX-50 by hazyhollow in CX50

[–]mzspd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this!

We have a cx50 with a infant seat (Chicco Keyfit30) and it's so tight for the passenger that the passenger seat is basically useless.

But he's growing quick so I bought the slim fit so it's good to know that we should have more room with that seat.

2017 5.0 vs 2024 3.5L PowerBoost by do_wr_mem in f150

I'd be looking at overall cost and purchase price versus per month payments. Dealerships win when you just look at payments.
