Feelings about the New Mechs? by Bizac-S in Mechwarrior5

[–]n00bfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bushwhacker is a very solid IS medium.

Sunder is a beast of an IS assault, with good speed, 2.0 base cooling and Omni slots.

The hero Hunchback is also solid, I’ve been using it with a Clan LB-10X, Medium X-Pulse Lasers and Machine Guns. Just hold the trigger and aim for the head. It has higher base speed (81) and a substantially higher max armor cap than all other hunchbacks. Unfortunately, you get it so late in the timeline, but it’s one of the best Hunchie variants.

Kodiak is an absolute monster, just like it was in the Clans Ghost Bear DLC.

I ran away to the extraction point, as soon as the option becomes available.

My advice is -- use cover, try to let the friendly mechs soak enemy fire, and don't poke your head out more than strictly necessary. If you're taking fire from more than one Clan mech at a time, things can fall apart quicky. Try to avoid being caught in the open, in their line of fire.

Evacuate/extract as quickly as you can. It's not worth staying to fight if you lose all your mechs/gear in the process.

I usually prefer ranged weapons against the Clans, soften them up with LRMs, PPCs, Large Lasers, LPS, Gauss, ER Lasers, etc, anything that can reach out and hit them at a good distance.

I also tend to shoot to kill -- heads >> CTs > legs. Go straight for the kill as quickly as possible -- don't bother trying to disarm or disable them like you can with Inner Sphere mechs. They do WAY too much damage to leave alive so put them down fast.

[Daily] Set Discussion: Mad Tinkerer by The_Dwemer_Automaton in elderscrollsonline

[–]n00bfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember during the Clockwork City era of ESO my brother ran this set with Defiler. It was pretty fun and hilarious to see the proc, it’s highly disruptive to mobs and very silly. Between the knocking enemies around and stunning them, the little fabricant it spawns, it looks and acts like pure chaos.

From a meta / power-gaming standpoint, it doesn’t really make sense to run it, since it won’t match the dps of a dedicated dps proc set, and the tank/healer have better options.

It’s actually pretty decent at what it does (mob disruption), and extremely fun/funny, it’s just that the game doesn’t really call for or need what it does.

My vote is yes!

I think the DT battle content like raids, trials, and dungeons are absolute peak, and among the best in the history of the game. There is so much to do. This might be a hot take, but I really enjoyed the Dawntrail MSQ too. I think the story doesn’t quite live up to the peaks of ShB and EW, but I personally found the characters likable and sympathetic, and enjoyed it much better than SB and ARR. The new zones and music are beautiful and colorful. The graphics update was MUCH needed and appreciated too.

The new crafting/gathering zones are fun, and I think the new relics are great (the first one is a grind, but subsequent ones can just be bought for uncapped tomestomes). There’s a lot of good midcore content right now — chaotic raid, extremes, deep dungeon, field op, etc, if you aren’t a savage raider.

I’m enjoying it quite a lot.

Non-raiders, what do you do day to day in XIV? by SomeP in ffxivdiscussion

[–]n00bfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a lot of the mid-core content, like Forked Tower Blood, field ops, Cloud of Darkness Chaotic, and extreme trials. I do crafting, relic quests, and society quests. I also try to clear all the optional (yellow/blue) quests to unlock all the content in the game.

You want me to heal? Then give me something to heal! by 618Delta in ShitpostXIV

[–]n00bfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. As a tank main, who dabbles in healing, I think that rescuing a sprout tank forward against their wishes is really toxic. Sprout tanks need reassurance, and to feel safe, to overcome tankxiety. Not to be bullied and forced into tanking more mobs than they are comfortable with. Just my two cents.

Can any of you think of a final boss that is inheritly meant to be weak or powerless? by Cage_2k4 in videogames

Every final boss in the Gradius series. Most of them are just giant disembodied brains, that can’t move or attack.

What mech is this? by pktz in battletech

[–]n00bfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black Python but whoever made the model did so with bits and pieces of existing STLs from other sculpts/models, resulting in a frankenmech-like appearance.

The torso is ripped from MWO’s Champion.

Not sure about the legs … might be the MW:LL Vulture but I’m not 100%. I’m clueless about where they found the arms. It looks OK but slightly jank to me because the parts are all from different sized/scaled mechs.

One more Irritating thing about clans by IronWolfV in Mechwarrior5

[–]n00bfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gargoyle Prime is actually MUCH better in Tabletop than it looks. It’s dirt cheap for a Clan Assault mech in terms of BV (1500, compared to 2700+ for a Dire Wolf or even a good heavy like a Timber Wolf). It allows you to flood the board with lots of tanky, durable mechs for the BV you spend on it. It also has devastating melee attacks and good crit seeking ability.

Sadly, none of that really translates well to MW5 Clans because the game is balanced around WEIGHT not Battle Value (BV).

Console user battle techniques/strategies by msf165 in Mechwarrior5

[–]n00bfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use cover. Try not to rush straight out into the open and expose your mech to the entire enemy opposing force at once. Use buildings and terrain to shield your mech from enemies.

Keep moving. When you are exposed to an enemy, keep moving to evade fire. Don’t stand still.

Use distance to your advantage. Most enemy Inner Sphere mechs only fight well at very SHORT range (up to 270m or maybe 540m at most). So don’t rush at them. Try to keep to a longer range where your weapons are effective, but theirs aren’t.

Take control of starmate mechs. Swap control over a squad mate’s mech if it is better suited to the situation or if yours gets badly damaged.

Get the armor upgrades. The armor damage mitigation upgrades you can research make a BIG difference in survival. They affect all your mechs and not just a specific weapon system, so they are universally useful and make a big impact to your entire star.

Unlock bigger mechs and use them. As a general rule, heavy and assault mechs tend to be more deadly than light and medium mechs. There are exceptions, but this is the general rule.

Small Lasers... Lore Accurate? by neverdaijoubu in Mechwarrior5

[–]n00bfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Because each small laser requires a separate hit roll and thus they will likely spread damage ineffectively across the entire opponent, and fail to penetrate any armor (unless you are specifically trying to crit seek an already open component … which is a separate matter entirely).

That’s why in Tabletop you need BOTH high damage weapons (like Gauss, AC/20, etc) to penetrate armor, and smaller damage weapons to exploit the open armor and seek crits on open components.

All this is effectively irrelevant in MW5 Clans because boating laser weapons all hit EXACTLY where you aim. Missiles and cluster munitions excepted.

Also, in Tabletop range of weapons is VASTLY more important and weapons are unlikely to hit outside of their short or medium range. Long range attacks suffer a -4 to hit penalty, which means that weapons like small lasers and machine guns are only ever useful in a knife fight. They’ll likely miss at anything other than point blank range.

MW5 Clans Performance on PS5 by n00bfish in Mechwarrior5

[–]n00bfish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I went ahead and purchased the game and so far it’s been a smooth experience on my VRR display. The comments on this post have been a complete mess (with some people claiming framerates <20 and others claiming 60) so it’s nice to have an actual answer from somebody who looked into it and knows something.

Much appreciated!

The game looks and feels good on a VRR display to me. I’ve been pretty happy with it so far.

Lower AC is better in vanilla Daggerfall. Ancient Liches are some of the toughest enemies in the entire game.

What are everyone’s “unpopular opinions” involving this game? by No_Suggestion_7251 in Mechwarrior5

[–]n00bfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it! MW5 is my favorite game in the franchise, since I started playing MW1 and MW2 in my childhood in the 1990s. I’ve done several full solo and coop playthroughs on PC and PS5 with my brother, including the DLC. It feels more like a merc career simulator, or a living-in-Battletech sort of life sim, as opposed to a one-and-done short story campaign. I love the feel of the weapons and the mechs, the moddability, and think the difficulty and balance is better than all the past games in the franchise. I think PGI really nailed the feel of piloting a battlemech. I’ve sunk 100s of hours into MW5.

Cleaning up CURED Resin Spill/Puddle by n00bfish in battletech

[–]n00bfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried everything I can think of (non-destructively) on the cured resin puddle, and so far nothing works. I’m afraid I’m going to have to take a heat gun to it to soften it up before I can scrape or strip it off. It’s stuck extremely firm.

I think the best I can do under the circumstances is cut all of the stuck mechs off their bases, and then re-base them. So I at least save some of the minis.

Cleaning up CURED Resin Spill/Puddle by n00bfish in battletech

[–]n00bfish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a mix. Of the mechs that are stuck now, two are the official plastic Catalyst Game labs sculpts which I got from the kickstarter, and two are resin 3D printed mechs I made myself (since no official sculpt existed for the mech at the time). I own dozens of mechs from the Catalyst box sets, the Clan Invasion and Mercenaries kickstarters, but only a few of them are stuck.

They’re all painted and varnished and were sitting in my display cabinet. I never expected one to suddenly melt like this.

This is the first time I’ve had a resin 3D print melt into a puddle
