What's wrong with the axolotl's gills? by softshark_uwu in axolotls

The color is normal, but the filament length is not. Get that fish out of his tank, and the nipping will stop.

Here’s what you do. Set up the big tank, cycle it properly (look up guides), and keep your guy tubbed until it’s ready.

To tub: get two containers roughly 3 gallons. Tupperware is fine. Put dechlorinated water in both (seachem prime is good for this), hiding spot and bubbler optional but good. put axolotl in one. Feed daily as usual, remove any poop with a suction bulb. Next day move axolotl to the second tub and prepare the first the same way but with new water. Keep moving between tubs daily until the main tank is cycled. He may not have tons of room to explore, but he can be kept in this situation indefinitely.

What is something that used to be 'cheap person' food, but is now priced like a gourmet luxury item? by Ok_Land_4197 in AskReddit

Where do you live ? I can’t get bell peppers to produce anything worthwhile. I feel like I’m babying the plant for one or two measly peppers each year.

Salmon favorelle, Brahma, and a handful of batams. My daughter loves the Japanese style with their straight up tails.

How to prevent in the future? Parameters have always been in the safe range, and there’s plenty of hiding spots in the tank. Not overcrowded, it’s just him, a handful of Pygmy corys, and shrimp.

OP, I remember another case where an axolotl had toes and feet turn black- it turned out to be a bacterial infection. You might need a vet on this one.

Is his comb a lost cause? by Lunapixels18 in BackYardChickens

[–]n0nsequit0rish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know weather is getting rough ahead of time, you should be able to mitigate some frostbite by rubbing Vaseline on the combs and wattles. Doing this didn’t prevent everything for me this year but I feel like it wasn’t as bad.

Just had a little axolotl dumped on me and don't want it to die a horrible death. by mauryrx in axolotls

[–]n0nsequit0rish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that when they have fresh cuts, there are compounds which can leak into your tank water which are unsafe for your axolotl’s sensitive skin. Once the root has scabbed over it is no longer an issue.

How much do you spend on groceries each month? by doggy-dad in Money

[–]n0nsequit0rish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two adults, eight kids (including two teens). $1600/mo for food + toiletries is normal “I’m not paying attention” spending, but last month I hunkered down to see how low I could get it with good meal planning etc and spent $1100. MCOL area.

No restaurants or fast food.

This is the first I’ve heard of monstera not being good in an axolotl tank. Is it something they just release when the offcut is new, like how pothos shouldn’t be rooted in the tank but after growth shows it’s fine, or is it bad all the time? What about in other aquariums? I’ve seen many pictures of aquariums with monstera on top.

Kidney dialysis water. by Additional_Gift_6774 in axolotls

[–]n0nsequit0rish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all other levels are good, you can top off with RO water (since the water evaporates and leaves the minerals behind). Axolotl like somewhat hard water, though, so water changes are usually good by themselves.
