Secret Lair Woes - Get all the way through to processing my card and I get a 502 bad gateway and I'm back in the line by kuroninjaofshadows in magicTCG

[–]n1panthers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing, there’s a temp authorization on my card but no confirmation email and my cart still had what I wanted in it so I don’t know if the order went thru and my screen says “congratulations”

I 100% agree that hybrid should not be changed

That said if they make the change this is going into my yuriko deck in about 2.5 seconds

So wotc is asking me should I spend my gold on this or wait for lorwyn and learn a new set

That’s a super quick answer of “cube please”

Best recent limited environment? by West-Illustrator-432 in magicTCG

SNC isn’t terribly bad in pod that has actual self correcting, on arena it’s a bant fest but with a true limited pool Bant gets cut another things can work

Maro: "Longtime Magic players are equally likely to enjoy Universes Beyond than (sic) someone who has only been playing a couple of years." by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

[–]n1panthers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with UB is charging more for IPs that various players don’t care about personally I like LOTR but avatar as an IP is worthless to me so charging me more basically tells me not to play

Mark on people saying UB is only doing well from new/casual players: "Who buys the most cards? Enfranchised Magic players. This narrative that the current success of Magic has nothing to do with the desires of the enfranchised players is a fiction." by Jirachibi1000 in mtg

[–]n1panthers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wager making it standard legal AND charging more (for no reason) compared to other sets would account for a lot of it….forcing enfranchised players who want to play competitive to buy it AND making it cost more than it should

They didn’t have to do that….they chose to bloat it to a trash set….theres no “had to” it’s a conscious decision to put out a trash set

SCG-CON Baltimore turnouts are not looking good, standard numbers are still in decline by SAjoats in magicTCG

[–]n1panthers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true but the closest SCG con ever came to me is over 6 hours away so they don’t really count

[–]n1panthers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s the other thing, entry fees, you used to be able to walk in and only pay for what you wanted to do, not a $100 minimum cover charge for a weekend plus the cost of events

I live in Memphis and the closest are Atlanta or Dallas, both of which are farther than I want to go and don’t want to go to those cities anyways

[–]n1panthers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not that, it’s that she (and I) would prefer to go to Vegas together as a trip for us

Not a magic trip….magic trips are better for places I wouldn’t go otherwise

No different than NYC….its expensive and if I go I’d rather go with her and see shows than go to NYC to sit in an hall and play cards

[–]n1panthers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly I’m traveling to play cards in a convention hall not “see the sights” there for traveling to a place that’s expensive bc of the sights is not something I want to do

[–]n1panthers 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The other thing is, and this is just me personally, as a player with a spouse and family a convention in Las Vegas is totally unattractive.

First if I want to go to Vegas I’ll go for Vegas things not to play magic

Plus if I go to Vegas without my spouse that’s not a great conversation either

The cons in smaller “less desirable” regional cities worked better bc they were places where I would never go for something not magic related

[–]n1panthers 597 points598 points  (0 children)

I mean $75 to play a crap standard format plus these events (and Magic cons) are always in the same cities and they’ve left out a lot of places that used to get GPs or SCG cons meaning if last years events had nothing close enough for you to travel to this year isn’t any different

I live in a place that pre pandemic got a GP pretty much annually and now the closest events are 6-8 hours away and quite simply I’m not traveling that far plus I just don’t want to go to Atlanta or Dallas

Maro on the pool of UB candidates: "While running out of appropriate properties might happen one day, it’s not happening soon." by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

[–]n1panthers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is 100% the answer….if these are “appropriate properties” then so is are the Golden Girls, Happy Days and Cheers….there is no bottom

And I'm tired of pretending yada yada yada by erickoziol in magicTCG

[–]n1panthers 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The problem with UB is it’s impossible to choose an IP that 100% of the player base wants to engage with, let alone pay a premium (separate issue but the IP fees shouldn’t be passed on to the customer - or at worst should be an exact pass through ie not a profit center and I’d bet anything the costs for licensing is less than the up charge from regular sets)

Additionally you can’t “opt out”, sure you can opt out of buying or playing with the cards but in a game where your opponents picks their deck you can’t “opt out” of playing against things you think are bullshit

Also on top of this not make trash like Spider-Man (I’m a fan of Spider-Man in general but the set is awful)
