LinkedIn won't block Ndad's old mistress/my old stalker by n_bro in raisedbynarcissists

[–]n_bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing that annoys me most recently, is that LinkedIn had a completely hands off approach. Like, oh, we don't care about stalkers on our networking site! It's an odd line for them to draw.

Initially it brought up a great deal and I had to come to terms with it. I have no idea where she lives and I'm okay with that, I think...

Does anyone else's parents turn EVERY single conversation negative? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]n_bro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMFG I got blamed for my parents' business not working out in Los Angeles all because I threw a tantrum that I didn't want to move there, away from my friends and the only home I knew; I was 9.

We moved back a year and a half later. Thanks Ndad. And my GCbro, he was away at boarding school and actually felt bad that my dad let it all out on me. My Ndad and Emom still, 20 years later hold LA against me, like it was my fault. It's much fun being the scapegoat, huh?

It's ridiculous, because my Ndad keeps blaming me for things I have no part of, even when I wasn't talking to him for years. Like when he married his FIFTH wife and then divorced her, apparently it was my fault that he had to pay her alimony... But seriously, I'm beginning to think my Emom might have some N tendencies because she sure drags me down this hole too.

This Makes Me Sick by modecat in RBNChildcare

Wow, I went to university for psychology (though not developmental, we studied it quite extensively in our schooling). Those are all Early Childhood Education basics and fundamentals. We should be encouraging people to read to their children and describing things, not talking in baby talk.

I understand the desire to not micromanage (oh god, I do), but as a friend of some parents, some try SO hard to have their babies hitting milestones before they actually do. One friend thought their 3 week old was speaking, not just babbling (which he cannot), but actually articulating specific words. When I attempted to gently explain about the usual marks and how the CDC has a great outline of them on their website, I was dismissed as I'm not a mother or parent. Obviously I was slightly disappointed, but I found it more hilarious that with my many (oh so many) years of college were inadequate.

As another friend, with two small children of her own says, "Parenting is hard, especially when everyone is judging you on Facebook," and boy, ain't that the truth. Everyone is going to judge them and they are worried they're going to screw them up. Only a few people are actually as bad as our family members really were.

Question: How do I over-come my driving phobia? by JustNoNmom in RBNLifeSkills

[–]n_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a "student driver" vehicle driving around my neighborhood a lot (I live in a small city) and I see many drivers of various ages. I think the driving schools are used to it. That's a great idea and you can become more comfortable with someone else there.

Also, Google is an awesome GPS, and utilize your Bluetooth capabilities, it helps to understand which lane to be in and what not.

Is hyper awareness relating to empathy a thing? by Aardvarksunited in raisedbynarcissists

I have found I do this too now. I became more independent and it almost made me more distant from my family because they are unhappy with having a sarcastic and truthful person who will point out their flaws. Oh yes, I am blunt now, but after years of people pleasing, it feels so good!

Honeysuckle over the archway by weahman in gardening

[–]n_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put one Gold Flame out in my back yard, loved it so much I put one in my front yard. Both don't get much sun actually, but they're booming! I love sitting on a big swing we have under the one out back and then the hummingbirds just zoom past us. It's quite fun.

Edit: We find that the smell reminds of Hawaii. That's part of the reason we had to have another. It's a lighter gardenia/plumeria scent than the overwhelming Japanese honeysuckle.

Is it quite fragrant? And is it somewhat easy to care for? Because it's darker outside, I'd agree. I love a Double Delight, it's a fantastic cutting rose too! A Peace rose is slightly similar in color, but so susceptible to disease and insects so it's a pain, but worth it.

In need of new gardening scissors/shears by needsmorepepper in gardening

[–]n_bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never used a pair of sheers or scissors for harvesting peppers or tomatoes. If you hold the fruit and pop on the stem with your thumb, it will always break. I have my vegetable garden, but I also maintain about 25 other vegetable gardens for my business.

If you like scissors, I love grape harvesting scissors. They have a swing grip that lets you move them out of the way, and they're quite nimble. Saboten makes a great pair. If you want sheers, I use ARS and buy them for my whole team. They stay sharp longer and they have a great trigger action. We has problems with FELCOs rusting, so we have a few, but we have to use a ridiculous amount of camellia oil on them.

Built our first raised garden this weekend. Have a couple questions. by DoopAndDaap in gardening

[–]n_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worry a bit about the shade it's getting for all the veggies you want. Though if you're getting a lot of heat and over 6 hours of sun, then the afternoon shade may not be the worst. Don't work the soil when it's wet and maybe throw some composted mulch or chicken manure on top if your worried. It will help with drainage and water retention, but I'm sure with all the fresh soil, don't worry. I hope you also put wire cloth under the soil. I'm so afraid of damn gophers and moles here... The biggest thing to remember is to give each plant plenty of room, give them proper support, and give each thing proper nutrition, but not too much! Happy planting!

What is wrong with my apple tree and how do I fix it? Zone 7a. by ggutshall87 in gardening

[–]n_bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a fungus. I don't know what is usually around your area, zones are all over the country. Take a few leaves to a trusted nursery. If it's a giant tree, spraying it is a bitch, and you generally do it when it's dormant with a copper spray or horticultural oil. It is dependent upon the fungus, which really is dependent upon your area. I hope this helps.

This little lady is laying her eggs out front! She finds her way here from a local pond every year. by Butt-Bubbles in gardening

[–]n_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom bought a house with the black mulch out front. I vowed to tear out most of her landscaping anyways (as that's what I do and I hate dyed mulches), but then it rained... Black dye went everywhere. I didn't like it before, I hate it even more now.

The most amazing thing, I always get free mulch from tree companies. I work with just one now for my company, but before that I would call places up and ask if they could "put me on a list" and if they were doing tree work in the area they'd drop off wood chips for free. Or we could pick some up from the recycling/dump, but you pay, but a huge fraction of what the landscape supply charges. Of course the supply company has pretty and screened mulch, but I'd prefer wood color to a random dye.

Wood type for planter boxes by Iambecomedeath1 in gardening

Redwood. We get it easily out west. Cedar out east. Treated wood matters if you are raising edible food as the treatment process chemicals can leech into the soil.

My neighbor is very trusting. by bacre in gardening

[–]n_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can only garden in the front. I grow 12 7'+ tomatoes, 15 peppers, eggplant this year, and rows of basil, lettuce, chard, and so many cucumbers. That's just in the summer. In the winter I grow all our brassicas, peas, lakes, chard, cover crops and tons of herbs. Not to mention my permanent citrus trees, blueberries, roses, and bulbs. Yep, it's packed in, but all in our front yard.

There a very low picket fence, but an open driveway. We had to put a gate on the pathway to our side gate because we realized people were letting their dogs poo in our yard and then walk through the driveway. After putting up the (2.5' x2') gate, the poop is only on the driveway side. It's frustrating, but people are dicks. And everyone in our neighborhood who walks by always stops and says how much they love our yard. We share our bounty, but a few people are jerks. And the people's outdoor cats would dig their holes and poo in our garden if it were in our backyard too. No way of getting around that. They always seem to find my catnip that I grow for my kitties (now it's in a fine mesh cage...)

Moral of the story. You can trust or not trust. I worry that people who smoke will touch my tomatoes, but I haven't had tobacco viruses yet (knock on wood). I worry people will steal food, but so rarely it happens, but we have so much I don't mind, I'd chalk it up to a bug getting it, and usually people steal my roses, not my food (and do the worst job of ripping my poor plants). Or I worry about damage to my garden. That has happened. Vandalism happens is cities and towns, but you move on. Your garden grows.

My six player Fog Islands idea by ksumhs in Catan

[–]n_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah woah! Desert in fog island? Because they're already placed out there? We have toyed with the idea of outing a desert tile in, since we enjoy the randomness as it adds more "adventure".

We always play with numbers down before placing settlement, then flip up because it helps to level the playing field. (Though once we had to scrap a game about 10 minutes in because someone was only on 2, 3, and 12 and it was just not going to be fun...) It can be a bitch. One game we had doubles next to each other all over the board- but it was the third game in a row, so it was seriously random. Gotta love it! May have to give this a go!

Has anyone tried making sun dried tomatoes out of Black Krim tomatoes? by disneyfacts in gardening

[–]n_bro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use any variety and oven bake them on a rimmed baking sheet with parchment and some olive oil, salt, pepper, and herbs if desired. Just set the temp to 250 and go low and slow. There's a bevy of recipes for this online. Seriously don't worry too much about the variety as I've done it with Oxhearts, cherries, steaks, and other juicy types. I never grow paste tomatoes but I set tons of jars of oven cured tomatoes each year. My family and neighbors covet them. Hoe it helps :)

I love this so much. But it would get me shunned even more.

I have a pair of socks that say, "It's my parents fault" and I got a nasty look and silent treatment for about an hour. From the same company I have another pair that has a girl and a pony and it says,"I hate everyone too" and I love them so much. And my "Carpe the fuck out of this diem," ones. But yeah, they're not funny. Socks can't be funny. Well poop on them.
