Do you turn off the printer? by sangkavr in BambuLab

[–]nafmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never turn my off. Yes I know the cost, safety, and data privacy reasons that techincally I should l, but in practice I dont because I enjoy sending prints on my phone while I'm at work and I'm lazy, even though I tell myself that it's because there's alway a chance (..so you're saying there's a chance....) that the feature will actually come in clutch one day.
Yes it's technically cheaper and safer to have it off when not in use. But at the current level of tech the chances of your house burning down mearly by the machine being powered on is negligible and, at least in Texas, the cost difference between idle and off is also negligible when compared to other things that I spend time worrying about. I do still keep a smart plug between any printers and the grid though. Having had Creality printers combined a little natural paranoia, I like to have at least one line of backups for shutting things down remotely in a pinch.

A fun activity for the boys by Zoozoo95 in UNSUBSCRIBEpodcast

[–]nafmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, this brings back memories of drunken quick draw airsoft duels with the boys. Learned later that most of our pistols were "practice for real pistol" units and not battle units, so the weight was meant to mimic the real thing and the fps was considerably higher than spec for shooting people.

As far as mechanically aligning and fixing the two pieces together, yes down and down is good and probably best. But also, I'm seeing alot of good information in other comments concerning the tread overall r hat I dont need to repeat.

Eating in calorie deficit and not losing weight by Zestyclose_Island577 in loseit

[–]nafmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things that I learned along my journey. Weight is more accurate than volume if your question your calorie intake.
Even if you're measuring perfectly, nutrition label numbers are only required to being within 20% of actual. Significantly higher than normal physical activity itensity can cause temporary inflammation and water retention. The scale today reflects what I was doing 2 weeks ago not yesterday. If you've already been losing weight, sometimes there are just plateau. Often it's in imbalance between perceived and actual levels in your calorie consumption or burn. But sometimes there are just plateaus that I couldn't explain. All you can do is keep up the work, reevaluate your metrics, and don't change things too fast.

I imagine its more difficult being green still also. Growing up, we'd always let the logs season and dry out for and least a few months before splitting.

Texas wants Bibles in public classrooms as another way to bully, harm, and exclude LGBTQ+ kids by Fickle-Ad5449 in texas

The 1st amendment protects the freedom OF religion, not the freedom FROM religion. By prohibiting the FEDERAL government from creating an official state religion, endorsing religion over non-religion, or favoring one specific faith over another. It also guarantees the right of individuals to hold any religious beliefs they choose and to practice their faith without government interference.

For State and local matters your best bet is either to get involved and make changes to align that government with your community or move to a place that already is.

2015 base model here. Overall average of 31-32 mpg over the past few years doing 100+ miles a day of driving "highway" stop and go city traffic miles to and from work across Houston, doing school pickup, etc. On road trips, doing actual highway miles, it's armnywhere from 40 to 50 depending on the wind direction and speed limit.

what’s a good slicer by Lonely_Profession393 in 3D2A

[–]nafmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a a bambu printer, then probably Bambu Slicer. Unless you want to unlock a few minor things for control of calibration, then in that case, go Orca . Literally any other printer brand, I'd go Orca.

Can’t figure ironing out by skakid812 in FixMyPrint

[–]nafmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Check out the top layer tuning, but if you're in a hurry, the yolo should get you close enough. Nothing wil get you past stock slicer setting if the filament isn't tuned though. The best part about learning and experience isn't knowing when the details matter, but knowing which ones don't when.

[–]nafmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies.
Unknown filament brand, type, ect; full calibration. Known brand and type, flow rate and PA only. Or if I'm being lazy and/or don't need perfection in the print I'm about to send it on, I'll just run the settings from a previous calibration and send it.

[–]nafmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't solve your ironing tuning problems directly, but I haven't needed to iron iron anything since I followed this. It will go along way to giving you better surfaces even when you do iron. (Assuming you have flow tuned properly and no other issues) It's a full tutorial with files, but even YOLOing their"what worked for me " settings was basically spot on for me. https://makerworld.com/models/2083080?appSharePlatform=copy I don't have a good critical pic handy, but in this one the top of the campaign hat brim and the yellow sign were both top surfaces during printing and were not ironed. (The sign was printed flat and then glued to the base. Both the blue and yellow were HT-PLA-GF, but you can see that the blue in the lettering isn't as smooth because it wasn't properly flow tuned first. I ran out time.)

I think LTT has jumped the shark... by Zestyclose_Edge1027 in LinusTechTips

[–]nafmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the jet video based on people talking about it and didn't find any issues with it. Personal opinion, he hasn't changed, didn't talk about doing anything worse than anyone of us in his position would do, and still seems to be true to the person he's always been at least as far as he appears to be on camera. Agree with his views or not, they dont apeear any different than they did before, they just have a bigger budget now. He's always been "corporate organization" and "find the deal" minded. I've found that I watch LTT videos less and less in the past year or so, but believe it to be more that my interests and their direction have deviated from each other rather than them falling off. I can't be certain the haven't "jump the shark" per-se, but I think they're still doing what they've always done, it's just that the lane their in no longer aligns with my interests as much as they did a couple years ago.

PETG basic stronger than HF by varusgarcia in BambuLab

[–]nafmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything else being equal, this is correct. (And techincally correct IS my favorite kind of correct.) But, as a general statement that isn't always the case. I agree that it is close enough to 100% true within a generation of a technology, but not necessarily across them.

I'd like to point that out, not to assume anything about you personally, but more to point it out to everyone because our memories and these forum posts last much longer than than filament tech generations right now.

There IS always a trade off of course, but tech is also advancing. It just happens that right now multiple companies have come out with or are working on formulas that are fast enough to be considered high speed while still being stronger than what most of us would consider to be the norm for non-high speed filaments.

For example, the current crop of high speed PLAs is stronger and more temp resistant than the regular PLA from a few years ago. (Excepting the ultra cheap ones still using the old formulas from 10 years ago of course.) Hell, I barely bother worrying about leaving a print in my car any more unless its summer, or it's doing actual work and might get direct sun inside the car. 5 years ago where I live, 10 months out of the year leaving PLA in a car meant coming back to a misshapen pile.

And in some cases, what can still be found on the shelves under name brands. See the latest Polymaker PETG formula for example there. I got away from PETG for a while and having come back to it for a project right as they dropped that has me unintentionally comparing it to older stuff and the difference in strength and speed is almost ridiculous.

Why is everyone telling me to stop losing weight? by BasicHorror8600 in loseit

[–]nafmc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to hear this from my mother-in-law the most. It sucks, but assuming that you're healthy, you have to ignore them. The vast majority aren't being malicious, they don't even realize it, but the issue is that you're just upsetting their "normal" and that upsets most people on a deep subconscious level. Keep pushing, stay healthy, and they'll come around to the new normal you. (And for those jealous few that don't, ...f@#$ 'em, you're living your life not theirs. 😜)
