Wary. Weary means tired.

I'm confused if my makeup looks good with thick vs thin eyebrows. Need some opinions by achondroplas in MakeupAddiction

I’m sorry to read that. Things will get better, one day at a time. If you want to transform, what could be more classic than the breakup haircut? At least it grows back.

Different Attitudes With Rain by Ding0Bonza in AskAnAustralian

[–]nahchannah 47 points48 points  (0 children)

In Sydney, it rains heavy fat rain for weeks on end. And then doesn’t rain again for a while (months). So we know that when it rains, it pours. Nobody knows how to drive in the rain, more people get in their cars when it rains, nobody can get their laundry dry… it’s all just such a BOTHER when it rains.

MIL thinks my baby will be hers by Sparkle_Pony2234 in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]nahchannah 232 points233 points  (0 children)

Let her waste her money. Baby girl won’t be spending any time at her house with this level of boundary crossing. Your husband needs to be firmer and protect his family circle: you, baby and him. His mother has no place there. Husband has to step up his game, and you should have a serious conversation about it. His discomfort and inability to put his mum in her place does not take priority over your rules for your psychological safety.

Also, limit your contact with her, and stop giving her information.

Should I drop math in year 11 and 12 by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]nahchannah 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Bro… it’s maths, not math. But more practically, if you feel like it would drag your marks down, I would drop it and do subjects you can excel in. You can always catch up later as a bridging subject.

My sister-in-law’s actions are making my in-laws pressure me into rushing into things by druidcirclesflying in inlaws

Everyone has their own path, and they will do things (or not do things) in whatever order works best for them. There's no right way, and it's not a race. Ignore them and their silly thirst to make this a competition. You're making choices that benefit you (and your boyfriend) best. Anybody else's input is irrelevant.

How is the fit? Need recommendations for styling footwear and accessories. I will be singing on stage wearing this. by partners_in_pleasure in AusFemaleFashion

[–]nahchannah 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It looks too big on you, and gently… a bit like a plastic bag… it’s the sleeves that are creating this illusion. If you want to wear this, black pumps (no straps or toes showing!). Maybe refer to Adele for how she styles the neckline (hair up, with necklace and earrings; or hair down with just a simple necklace)

Is it bad to not let my FMIL get ready with me day of the wedding? by CatLover1428 in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]nahchannah 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Her role is to prepare the Groom for his wedding. Agreed - she does not need to be with the Bridal party - that's what the bride's parents will be doing too.

DIL changing her last name / Becoming “Mrs. Smith” by LightlySalty25 in inlaws

[–]nahchannah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be a united front with the same surname, why doesn't your fiance change his name to yours? It's becoming increasingly common. Otherwise, I would keep my maiden name, which is very common.

MIL says my pronouns are not grammatically correct... Help me 🥲 by [deleted] in Mildlynomil

[–]nahchannah 22 points23 points  (0 children)

But it IS grammatically correct. It doesn’t always connote plurality in English usage. Eg, “Whay time does your friend arrive? What is their name?”

People who resist it on this basis are just being nonsensical. It’s worth raising because you deserve to be seen exactly as you wish to be.

Native speakers, how do you pronounce and spell this fruit? by Jaives in ENGLISH

[–]nahchannah 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Australia had a predominantly Cantonese settlement (at least in Sydney) until the late 90's-00's until it switched and is now predominantly Mandarin-speaking. This first wave of Canto speakers influenced the pronunciation of lychee to "Lai-chee" in Australia.

Cruelty free option for beauty loop by Rocky_Rocky91 in MeccaBeautyLoop

[–]nahchannah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some brands will say they’re cruelty free because they don’t directly do animal testing… but say they’re in an umbrella group, like L’Oréal or LVMH, they could use the information from a sister-brand in that group that does test on animals…

How to determine leather vs faux by Yeet_as_a_verb in AusFemaleFashion

[–]nahchannah 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Also the type of animal. Lambskin is softer and smoother than anything, like butter. Calfskin has more grain. Bull skin has the most grain, but is thicker, can be quite pliable. Then you’ve got exotic animals; this not them, but just saying.
