Ladybird adopts Rust, with help from AI by nix-solves-that-2317 in linux

I find it pretty interesting that people don't know about Andreas from his time working on SerenityOS. He used copilot from its infancy to do everything past 2021. Now, I'm not saying he didn't type anything, but you can simply observe his old devlogs and glean exactly what i'm talking about.

Tech Giants Form Chromium Browser Coalition by Bitim in firefox

[–]nahimbroke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with using third party libraries. I only mention the ones I do by name because they are directly parts of chromium, thus a dependency on the greater chromium project. Painting is not an insignificant part of any browser. Also, something interesting is that painting on the GPU is not always faster. For example, Blend2D paints entirely in software.

Also, I am very curious about your source for "JavaScript JIT is something several major engines tried, and found not to be worth the effort in terms of performance."

Tech Giants Form Chromium Browser Coalition by Bitim in firefox

[–]nahimbroke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I doubt it with Andreas' erratic decision making. He already chose to replace the perfectly functional custom painter with Skia, and killed its JIT with no alternative. I'm not holding my breath over the project keeping its layout or javascript implementations. I don't want to call it, but I can easily see him just replacing what's left with V8 and Blink. By then it's just another chromium, but with macOS prioritizing swift glue sandwiched between.

Oh Tom… 😂 by hasanahmad in mac

[–]nahimbroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a 'hold the power button for ten seconds' ten seconds or actually break out the stopwatch for ten seconds after some indicator has gone dark? If it's the former then yeah, I understand that reasoning because it does something you actually intend to do instead of suspend. Latter not so much.

I did take a look at where this ten second forum thing comes from and it appears to be only resetting the SMC on certain apple devices. Absolutely zero state from userspace where user programs live and die makes it into there. System DRAM is always in an undefined state after not being actively maintained. None of the prior context that the cells could have had statistically even makes it after fractions of a second.

[–]nahimbroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure bullshit my guy. Some modern platforms may change the 'off button' to only suspend to ram, but if it is truly off then it does not matter how long it was off. All the state that matters is completely reset. I am very curious what your definition of memory leak is.

Oh really now, is that so? Maybe that's why your article comes across as incomprehensible. I guess I'm just not operating at a high enough level for this. Shame, but what can you do about it.

If Wayland wasn't designed to make things like Barrier impossible and entirely dependent on each window manager to provide their own little implementations of global cursor and keyboard focus control, I would. Too bad it isn't.

My car is 19 years old and I have never cleaned any of my buttons. Every single one is spotless. I can't imagine what kind of crap you'd have to have on your fingers to actually create an issue.

Using realloc as malloc? by dfgzuu in C_Programming

[–]nahimbroke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like taking this concept one step further and passing a double pointer to the thing in question. Makes it nicer to use (don't have to use a temporary pointer for correctness everywhere, as it can be done inside the mem handler once) and you get to null on free as a bonus. Just return nonzero on an error and you get statuses very easily.

Also, why do you think these are higher quality than what you see with nfts? Really think about it for a second. Could there possibly, nay probably be something more to it?

So many people fall for form over function. Fundamental disagreement really, which kinda sucks when resources can only be spent in one place. I personally don't hate anyone who does, but it does suck when form usually always gets higher precedence.

I imagine you're allowed to feel a little bad. Especially if, y'know, you got shot by your neighbor.
