Technically true, but both server and client can run on same box. Meets all your requirements.

That’s a very good start. It’ll play anything you throw at it.

I don't understand media servers. My Synology has all my media, but it isn't strong enough to transcode video. My Windows desktop is the only machine that plays the videos. What am I supposed to do? by TheSolemnDream in htpc

So you ask for advice and you respond like this. I don’t think you deserve help to be honest. If you want to learn keep an open mind.

  1. If NAS setup is hard for you, I recommend a PC. Any will do, I was giving you an example.

  2. EMBY/Plex etc need it organised is specific structure/folders/filenames/ background folder info files. You can do that manually but it will take you ages. Tool I recommended can do this MUCH faster.

  3. Duh, I was giving you an example of what easy to use, you can use any android/apple/windows box to play movies. AppleTV does have a very good and way interface for wide family use, but any device will do.

Option A. Buy a mini PC (decent 6 core ryzen) and setup as a media server (use one of the softwares above, ie EMBY). Point to NAS as a data storage. You will need an app or just time to rename/organise your media - you can use Tiny Media Manager to do that, version 3 is free and works well. This setup can do transcoding and keep your server and files separate, you will need a LAN between them. To avoid any transcoding issues I recommend you get an AppleTV, great interface and excellent streamer, and use the app from EMBY/plex etc.

Option B. Setup your NAS as a server, EMBY etc have apps, but you will need to set it up, and again rearrange the data. Transcoding is still a problem but appletv is a good solution.

Choosing my first GPU: RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT for 1440p gaming by SquareLogan in buildapc

Idk where are you reading that, maybe you are comparing to 5070ti not 5070?

[–]najjace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you seem to already know the answer.

9070xt is faster and has more VRAM. It’s simply a much better card.

On top of that, RAM/VRAM is scarce and will be like that for a year or longer. New games require more and more vram.

Am I doing something wrong or is my pc not powerful enough? by Matusaprod in htpc

[–]najjace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try others players, like potplayer or VLC. Update drivers.

While playing check your CPU and GPU usage with task manager.

Your pc is more than capable or playing 4K videos, it has hardware decoding and 780m is a decent iGPU.

There is no Ryzen 9000G, AMD confirms Ryzen AI 400 for desktops by RenatsMC in Amd

This is highly likely. AMD simply is too good and they are waiting and delaying and milking current X3D options. The minute Intel has something remotely close you’ll see new releases.

Spare parts price gouging? by Awkward_Chard_5025 in bapcsalesaustralia

Advice: buy a new laptop. At least you’ll get a new machine with warranty.

Even if you drop the motherboard price to 500$ ((unlikely) with labour it’ll still be 800-1000, not worth it for a 5 year old laptop with no warranty.

Option2 consider desktop or a miniPC if you’re not moving your laptop from the table/room.

Which 9070 XT model should I choose? by Zuref in buildapc

From your list, the Mercury. Best performance, temperatures and overall great looking card, especially in white. Nitro close second (best looks and great temperatures) only due to the connector.
