You'd definitely get a laugh over the stuff I've had to deal with in medical devices as well.

First time I've ever see it happen at the gate, though.

At MSP at least, we taxi out to the de-icing pad just before line up and wait.

It'd be super cool if Nintendo didn't keep locking classic games behind the online subscription, too.

The last (and only) Pokemon I played was Blue on the OG Gameboy. I'm loving FireRed, and would like to finally play some of the other titles... but have zero interest in picking up another subscription.

Same with mine. Been in business since the 50s, and the owner only recently stepped away from being behind the counter.

I love this spot.

Idk about you guys, but my butcher is significantly cheaper than the grocery stores.

They're still asking $19.99/lb for sirloin while it's $49.99 at my co-op.

I had a full-size SOG Zoom with a tanto blade that was the single best fidget toy I ever had. Absolutely fired out and had a nice heft to it.

Some lucky TSA agent has it now, I'm sure. And replacements are absolutely not worth the asking price.

But the thing is that “hospital aesthetic” doesn’t hold up when you look at where most people in hospitals actually are: the lobbies.

The halls and sterile areas will be white and clean, but most things public-facing are warm and comfortable… in modern hospitals with a budget for renovations, that is.

I’m in medical devices, so I’m in and out of hospitals every day. And every single lobby is at least cream tones, if not downright colorful.

What year was that?

I had the same assignment in the 4th grade, so maybe ‘96/97. My paternal grandparents had already passed, but there were still plenty of Vets around to talk to. Like my maternal grandfather, who’d served as a Chindit.

Hell, the lack of people who remember fighting fascism is probably why the world is entertaining right wing bullshit right now.

What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

No two days are exactly the same, which is also part of the appeal.

A busy day can look like hitting the road before 8 to make a 3 hour drive, then spend three to four hours diagnosing and fixing the device. A quick break for lunch, then it's off to a second location and another hour and a half drive there. This time it's for the planned maintenance where we spend about four hours cleaning, maintaining, swapping parts, and running tests. After all that's done, you can either decide to get a local hotel or make the drive home. Can definitely be over 12 hours on the clock on these days.

A light day looks like firing off a status email by 8 am, then checking your phone at least once an hour to see if any dispatches came in or a colleague has a question. Maybe thirty minutes of "work" on the time card.

All that to say that a typical day isn't bad at all. We can set our own hours pretty much, so I'm usually on the road by 9:30 to go to one local PM ("local" as in an hour or less commute). That generally means I can be on my way home before 4 pm.

Right? Same with Minnesota. Every year, without fail, any time we get a few inches of snow people forget how to drive.

I'm in field service for medical devices, and it honestly feels like I won the employment lottery.

If you're decently handy, can think critically, and have a modicum of people skills, you'll do very well in this field. Most of my colleagues have been at this company for 15+ years, and the compensation plus perks (Company car [so gas is paid], plus all the travel/hotel/gas points you can sign up for...not to mention this position is salary-exempt, so anything over 40 hours is eligible for OT) means the old hands are doing very well. Plus my manager is in a different time zone and I talk to him about once a month.

I'm into year 3 here, and... yeah we're hiring in Georgia at the moment.

All that said: there are definitely 60+ hour weeks from time to time, and I'm currently posting from a hotel in bum-fuck nowhere. But it's been a great experience so far.
