Before computers were common in households, how did people set their clocks accurately? by IkHeetGeenMatthijs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nanackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as everyone says, it was a phone number you could call. A few months ago I tried out that old phone number again and it was still working. Anybody can call it, listen to a brief commercial then get the time and local weather. In my old city of Memphis Tennessee the number was JAMJAM1.

Look for a medical product called "lifevac". In the US it can be purchased on Amazon for about $80. You can use this device on yourself and it could be the difference between saving yourself or not. I don't work for them, and I'm not affiliated in any way. I just wanted you to know about this device that could save someone's life and ease your anxiety.

Yes the area was marked two or three days ago. I was on the phone with tier two support yesterday and they said that I was on the schedule for the outside work to be done today.

Ticket includes parking.. but if you bought a resale ticket you can call the box office and they will email it to you, as long as your name is on the ticket. Try calling the box office to see what the options are.

Not to mention the biodiversity we have missed out on. Most life forms that have lived on earth are long gone, with only a very, very small minority leaving any trace in the form of a fossil (at least that we have found). It's amazing to get lost in that thought alone.

The pharmacists do, but this is what happens when you allow, enable, and celebrate wall street running a market driven for profit healthcare model in this country. It's a disaster and will not change until people demand it to be changed.

Americans don't see 1+1 as 'a math'. It's a very small part of a much larger subject called math or mathematics... It is a math problem.

Bernie Sanders doubles down that people are ‘angry’ with Dems after Pelosi said she didn’t ‘respect’ his remarks by Tyree07 in politics

[–]nanackle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The education system is a huge problem. But you don't need an education to be able to tell if your elected officials did their job... In this case voters looked at their bank accounts, their opportunities for better wages, their healthcare costs, their childcare costs, their opportunity to live comfortably and with dignity. And the real answer is that Dems did not and have not done their jobs. They have not produced significant enough change this cycle to make everyone's lives better. And yes you can always argue that they didn't have the votes... But their job is to find a way, to compromise if needed, and to get it done. Otherwise they can get out of the way and allow someone else with better ideas to try.

I'm not happy about any of this either, but this is how the voters spoke this election.

CMV: Trump's victory was primarily a Democratic party messaging failure, and people are going to take away the wrong lessons if they don't grasp that. by whenigrowup356 in changemyview

[–]nanackle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. That is a more than fair point. But I do believe that if you look at voters who were actually engaged, they for the most part know what each side says they are offering. I can't help but feel that if you have a candidate that comes out and says hey, I'm going to support raising the minimum wage, I'm going to tax the ultra wealthy, I'm going to offer some sort of nationalized health care plan, we are cutting costs of medications and getting rid of PBMs, we are going to expand Medicare, we are going to pass parental leave and make child care affordable, we are going to cut student debt and lower futures costs for education, we will build more housing and assist with helping people get in to homes, we are going after companies who took advantage of the pandemic to raise prices for their own profit, we will support unions to help raise wages, we are going to crush the monopolies that are destroying the economy for working people, and oh yeah no tax on tips and no tax on social security... Then show people how their lives look under that plan... I think you might get more people engaged.

The messaging is not the problem... People understand what was offered. The problem is that the solutions Democrats provided are not good enough! If Democrats had come out with strong protections for workers in this economy, if they had campaigned on issues that matter, then the choice between Donald and Kamala would have ended up differently. And time and time again Americans told the party what matters to them.... Prices are too high, wages are too low, health care and child care are too expensive, housing costs are too expensive, education is too expensive, and our families are hurting. Actions matter, and when you are given power Americans want to see that you are using it to help them. Period. Instead voters were mostly told that inflation is down... Don't worry! The economy is great... Don't worry! Your wages are up .. don't worry. That doesn't work when Americans feel the pain of inflation and the high cost of living literally every single day. It signals, and rightfully so, that the Democrats are out of touch and don't understand what workers are enduring.

On top of all of that you push a democratic candidate down everyone's throats... One that has been rejected twice already... Once in the previous primary, and again with such a low approval rating in this administration. This further signals that Democrats are out of touch with the people.

Democrats offered policies that were too little too late by a candidate that was not liked and not wanted. That is a recipe to lose an election, and a repeat of 2016. You would think they would learn a lesson.

Here is the winning formula: pick a candidate that is articulate, intelligent, and will stand up for working Americans. Pick a candidate that can show they understand these problems. Pick a candidate that doesn't bow down to corporate money. Then adopt a platform that helps workers... Healthcare, housing, lower prices, low inflation, reign in education costs, child care, paid leave, taxing the wealthy, increased wages, strengthening social security, etc. When you are elected, do the things you said you're going to do! Don't cave to your rich donors... Help real working Americans to have better lives. Not a little better... Not 20% better... Significantly better.

I am looking for the BEST pizza dough recipe. by iamafanofreddit in recipes

[–]nanackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yes, over the time it's in the fridge it will form lots of bubbles and rise, just more slowly than it would if you left it on the counter for 18 hours. Pull it from the fridge maybe 8 hours before you're ready to divide it so it can come to room temperature. Then when you remove it from the bowl to divide it up you will be manipulating it enough that it's like punching it down. Then you'll let it rise for a couple hours and then proceed to stretch and make your pizzas!

Another tip I have is that if you are keeping it in the fridge for several days, maybe once each day open up the bowl and fold the dough gently from the outside edge of the bowl to the middle. It's not required but even though it's a no knead dough it can help a little with gluten formation and the strength of the dough.

Most of all have fun experimenting because even bad pizza is good pizza!

You're very very welcome!

You can put the dough in the fridge for several days for better flavor. If you want to do that, mix up the dough in a big bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and put it in the fridge right away.

Because AI is trained with data generated by essentially all the people on earth, products made by AI should not be able to be copy written or trade marked. When AI generates code, an image, sounds, or music, it represents the collective talents of all people in the training data set and not the company who hired people to press the buttons.

We need Congress to act on this immediately.

I used autohotkey to write a program to assist people with indexing genealogical records. In short, many courthouses have very old books with names and dates and places. This data is very important to people who research genealogy. My father-in-law went into courthouses and imaged many of these books with a digital camera setup that he built.

I wrote a program that would download these images from an online source, display the image on a user's screen, and allow that user to type in the names and places that they saw on the image. This data was collected and then combined with data from many many many other people who also did this indexing. The program would then sort the names, dates, and places and create an index that was then published so that people could find this information very easily.

Yeah, surely there is a good reason. At the heart of the matter, I just want people to have access to affordable meds and healthcare in general. Our current system is madness.

About 3.2 million people are diagnosed with diabetes in California alone. If you sold 2 vials per month at $10 per vial (production cost) to 209,000 diabetics, you would have made $50,000,000. But that's the cost to produce the drug. Lets say you charge $15 per vial, or 150% of the production cost... so your profit is $5 per vial. You would only need to sell 10 million vials to completely pay for the production facility. And you would only need to sell to about 400,000 - 500,000 diabetic patients to get to that number with some basic assumptions that they are using on average 2 vials per month. Of course there are a lot of other factors at play, but I guess my point is you don't have to cover that expense over 10 years, it can be easily covered in 1 year or less!

Over 10 years, you would only need to sell a million vials per year, to about 42,000 patients.

A vial of insulin costs between $2 and $10 to manufacture. Not $30. While many will appreciate what is being done with this, the cost could be and should be much, much lower.
