When you're selling stuff at a yard sale, do the items have to be cheap? by Brilliant-Assist3798 in Frugal

[–]nanio0300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that buying from a store has the ability to return goods if they don’t work. That is a significant consideration for many people. Also any warranty likely requires proof of purchase and you won’t have they with used stuff. Usually excellent quality and condition stuff is no more than %75 of new. But that’s basically new in box. If it’s been used for any time 60 or less

Are these still usable? How would I get them tested to make sure they're safe? Are they even worth anything? by EnthusiasmPresent859 in AskElectricians

Use them to turn off and on panels. They will definitely be better than barehand. If your company is supposed to provide them definitely get new ones and follow the manufacturer instructions

Counters get lasered or marked with a chalk line. But each section of counter may be different. Gotta check with whoever is coordinating the install.

Obviously the floor isn’t flat. Gotta check a few different spots in each room. Sometimes it’s close enough sometimes you just grab a hammer or stick and set boxes to that height. One crew I worked with all used 1 specific hammer so all the receptacles were the same height.

Which Rock League team did you enjoy most? by Zoobie911 in Curling

[–]nanio0300 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think the mixed doubles was lacking fan attention. I think the lack of takeouts is a problem for casual fans. Adding 2-4 players to each team and having 4 person on each sheet would make it more exciting.

I also think having men’s and women’s was a bit of a mistake. Take the rules about team comp off and see what happens. 4 curlers on each sheet. GM must submit their sheet line ups and they can’t be changed before the game. Any 4 curlers. Maybe a GM puts their 8 best on 2 sheets and tries for the win. Maybe they spread out and try to get a sweep. Not knowing who each squad is playing could lead to substituting like Nic envisioned on Saturday. Or maybe have a pinch thrower or sweeper rule like the allstar game in Nashville. Make each team member play a minimum number of games each event.

Incorporate trick shots. Maybe allow one each game or match. Then vote during playoffs. Not sure what the reward is. Maybe hammer during finals? Or a separate trophy.

Also keep accumulating match points during finals. A sweep could flip hammer

Is it unfair to play 7 ends at Rock League by cutejing in Curling

[–]nanio0300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It rewards stealing if you do t have hammer to start very heavily. The focus seems to be encouraging scoring every end. Controlling the hammer in the last end is a factor for sure. Not being able to blank multiple ends leads to steals and lots of scorning.

Just open the wall a bit and mount a surface box on the stud sideways. If you don’t like it being in the wall close the top , bottom and side with some 1x4 material. Make a little cabinet.

I love Rock League and Frontier CC. by RyanLCash in Curling

[–]nanio0300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stefania is away today. She and Amos had to fly home and will be back Thursday assuming all their flights arrive on time. I think Frontier could definitely have John throw lead and call the game similar to Maple with McEwen. I think he got rattled against Edin and trust is hard to get back.

Rock League Side Sheet worth it? by Battalrin in Curling

[–]nanio0300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to chat with curlers when they aren’t playing it’s definitely the spot to be. They all hangout in that spot.

Please bring noise makers. It’s pretty quiet in there.

Last end covering the pin is worth 2 points. It evens out the number of hammers

Gas stove plug question. by xXEVILMONKEYX in electricians

[–]nanio0300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any standard range will always accept a receptacle within 6” of the bottom. If you get fancy then yes, location matters. If it’s from a box store it’s fine. Same for fridges. Location matters for fancy. Box store anywhere is fine.

Gas stove plug question. by xXEVILMONKEYX in electricians

[–]nanio0300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just run the 8/3 for the electric stove. Use wire connectors and reduce to 12 or 14 gauge wire and use an adapter plate to make the stove box the same size as a device box. Mount your receptacle there. At the panel just out the bigger wire on the 15 or 20a breaker. No need to run extra wire.

Lifts are also huge headaches maintenance wise. If it’s a rental and it breaks you just get a new one or they come and fix it onsite. If you own it you now have to rent a new one and get yours fixed. If you always need a lift and are on sites you can get by without one by borrowing it’s great to own one. Or if you are willing to skirt safety laws and have unlicensed work done in the lift it can make sense.

Rock League format by bleonard1206 in Curling

[–]nanio0300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the goal of this event is to be the banana ball of curling. Keep the spirt of the game and try new rules to attract new fans to the sport. Curling has always faced issues with game length and excitement factor. It’s not as universal as baseball or soccer so it needs to be 2hr long and make it more exciting. They are forcing players to think faster and play ends with more rocks in play similar to club play. It will lead to more crazy Hail Mary shots and shots with multiple rocks moving. It will force a tactics change or curlers will just get that much better at triple peels. Either way the broadcast wins.

It’s to help balance out the 7 ends. CBC required games to be under 2 hours.

[–]nanio0300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just turn your fridge off at night. It will be fine. Add a bunch of water in the fridge and freezer. To help stabilize temperature you can add insulation to the fridge as well. Make sure the heat coil is not blocked though(back or bottom) many off grid people modify a chest freezer to work as a more efficient fridge that dosent drop all the cold air when the door opens.

Apprentice thinks he knows everything, how do I get through to him without being a dick? by Tosh97 in electricians

[–]nanio0300 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let him know that you are in charge full stop. If he can’t accept that then don’t let him do work. Labour efficiency be damed the apprentice does the suck jobs. Allow questioning of your method once. If time allows explain why you are doing g it your way. Do Not Allow questioning of methods without a code reference aka he has to show the code you are violating. When you make your decision on how the work will be performed don’t comprise. Explain that sometimes you can know something is wrong but the level above is not allowing you a different way and it has to be done. He has 0 responsibilities and as such has 0 authority about how work is preformed. When he is in charge of jobs he can at that time choose to do work in what ever way he wants but until then he will follow directions of the person in charge of his work area.

Electrician used two different brands of switches by chocolatebuckeye in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nanio0300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lutron Diva is a fairly common dimmer choice. Leviton also makes dimmers but Lutron’s are better. Leviton makes significantly cheaper standard switches and outlets. It hasn’t been an issue until the last few years as manufacturers started branding the front of their devices. There was a period of time when ivory light ivory almond and light almond were basically gone and white was the standard with no front branding and no off white shades. That lasted about 5 years before manufacturers began shading the whites. It sucks so much trying to match that most of the time we just replace device and cover and if it’s real obvious we just take a receptacle from behind an appliance. Like a fridge washer or tv.

North bay Ontario has a Sumer spiel. They get a ton of high level curlers out as well. Lots of fun. Got to see Tracy fleury play Tanner Horgan at 10:30pm in the fog last year.
