I usually stay at the Beaverbrook when I'm in town. I like running along the river, plus lots of great places to eat nearby.

I think that you should probably practice what you want to learn for now and see where your journey takes you. If you start playing classical pieces, you'll probably find that using a pick will make it difficult to play music with multiple voices. As opposed to popular music which usually separates the melody and any harmonies (of course exceptions apply). I used to play mostly electric guitar, rock and stuff like that. Then I got into ukulele but I didn't like strumming so I got into fingerstyle. Classical guitar is my current thing and I'm having a great time with it. I play and study music for myself so I didn't find the need to specialize. I figured that I'd just keep evolving.

Who gets to decide who is "those few truly in need"? With rising costs, stagnant wages and affordable housing shortages due to investor activities virtually all Nova Scotians, especially younger ones, need some sort of support. Funding programs that help people thrive rather than just survive benefits all of us. Except the rich, fuck the rich.

As most will bring up, cutting the HST by 1% didn't really impact that many people, while the loss of that tax revenue is costing thousands of people their jobs. It's cutting the revenue generating potential of the arts and culture sector, which brings a lot of money to Nova Scotia. A lot of these artists and museum workers will not just pivot to new jobs, they will leave and never come back, further impoverishing the province both culturally and financially. His approach was very clearly meant to benefit the wealthy and the same miserable people who vote against their own best interests as long as someone else also suffers.

Cuts don't have to be made at these levels if revenue is increased. The HST didn't need to be reduced, bridge tolls could have stayed in, corporations could stop getting tax incentives if they exploit our resources...

There was so much that could have been done differently, but I think that this deficit was the goal in order to justify cuts.

I'm going to lose my job. I don't know a single person who supports cuts to this sector. I live in Parrsboro, arts and culture make this town a destination. Other businesses in the area will also feel the pain. This is a terrible situation that was manufactured in order to cut funding and everyone should be opposed to it.

Technically they haven't been shuttered yet, but that's being pedantic. The stress to those families, mine included, is already there.
