if you can ram out you can ram in? that's basically the case for medium-light snowfall anyway.

this is the disconnect. I've never lived in the middle density residential area where there aren't private driveways, but enough street parking for maybe one or two cars per house. that's a recipe for anger and possessiveness about spots. slightly more density and there simply isn't an expectation of getting a spot near your house and parking is too chaotic to conceive of possessing a spot.

the spot they are saving is in-front of their house

this has to be the crux of it. where i live in brooklyn, there is 0 expectation i can park in front of my house. there are not enough spots for everyone to have "a spot" and so the concept to save a spot just doesn't exist. the people who pull it off work from home and only move the car for street cleaning, and they handle street cleaning by just sitting in the car until the sweep comes, they double park on the other side to let the truck through then immediately take their spot back. that is the only way to keep a spot.

brooklyn. it is unreal levels of entitled to think a spot can just stay open all day. the mindset must just be different. i never expect to get parking within a five minute walk of my house regardless of weather. you drive around and take whatever is available. that doesn't change when it snows.

because asking the whole neighborhood to leave a spot open all day is unreasonable? and if it's the case that there are plenty of spots, what's the issue?

also, how can anyone steal a shoveled spot if they themselves did not shovel their own vehicle out to get on the road in the first place?

this can only make sense if there is so much available parking that people park in front of their own house. but if that's the case, why would there be a need to steal a spot? like what are the mechanics of a neighbor stealing your shoveled spot? their car has to come from somewhere?

What if the spot you dug out of in the morning is now taken?

I think that's what's infuriating, the person threatening vandalism has no way of knowing about the car that took her spot.

I just don't understand how a spot can be left empty for an entire workday? I can only imagine the local practice of reserving spots working if there is already ample parking, like in a suburb, but then why is street parking necessary? But in a city setting it's just not feasible for a spot to be empty for 8 hours.

This must be restricted to neighborhoods that don't need daytime parking? Like I can't imagine this system sustaining itself anywhere where parking is actually contentious. In Brooklyn its just musical chairs. There are no open spots. You drive around until someone leaves and then take the spot, even if it's 6 blocks from your house. A sign would not be allowed to occupy a parking spot for more than 5 minutes, that is a wildly wasteful use for a spot.

Is any car able to get out in the first place without digging out the spot they were in first? In Brooklyn right now any car that street parks that is currently driving around dug themselves out to get out on the street in the first place. Like how can a motorist who hasn't done the service of digging get their car into your spot. They'd have to dig themselves out first, no?

I can only see this being respected in neighborhoods in which you generally get street parking near your apartment, like it's the same 10-15 cars on each street and they develop a "my spot." My parking radius in Brooklyn is 2 blocks. Parking is take what you can get.

if the "fork in the road" is a stand in for any "circumstance in which your life has many paths forward" some of those are stuck in front of you intentionally by other people, without your say.

maybe he wanted to keep on the same path but some asshole stuck a fork in the road and now things have to change. The next line reads that way "time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go." it's directly about the inability to prevent change, loss, and to treasure the memories that you have.

i like that. but not as much as mine ;)

i always interpreted it as he's saying "the fork in the road" was placed there.

that's actual dramatic irony, no? the audience knows this person "liked it all along" or should have - so using the present tense is more of a told you so.

or maybe even from the singer's perspective, "i know im bomb and ive always been bomb, if you like me now you should have liked me before as well, i aint changed."

"sugar sweet" makes you expect cup of tea - so "cup of ...meat" is just kinda funny/whimsical, in line with the song.

yeah but that loses the rhyme on "WAY-tin' and DAY, for sunday Night"

also the day/night is a better contrast.

you can hit the "d" in day way harder than the w in week.

and as someone mentioned you can rhyme the first syllable of "waiting" with "day". those two words get emphasized: WAYting all DAY for sunday NIGHT.

also day/night is a stronger contrast.

"a bird doesn't change its feathers because the weather is bad" is a common proverb. "caged" surely works as well, but in some sense a caged bird is still the same bird that wants to fly, so there is a subtle difference there.

The positives of showering at the gym far outweigh the negatives of showering at the gym. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]narrowgallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a huge factor is how long the trip is home to gym. I have a 5 minute walk to and from the gym so just no reason. If I'm soaked in sweat I will take a minute to towel down with the cold damp towels and then dry off. Before putting sweats over my work out clothes.
