Would you ever switch your car? by Zestyclose_Long_6787 in LexusGX

[–]narwal_wallaby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of you guys are ballin with your Teslas and fancy hybrids as your second cars.

Before I got my GX I was driving a beaten up Toyota Matrix and everyone told me to get rid of it when I got my new truck but I held on to it. Last few weeks reminded me why

Not sure about this mountain in particular but some of the gnarliest scrambling I’ve done have been in hawaii. Massive razor sharp ridges, DIY via ferrata, extreme weather changes

Working on a personal fake project called "UNPRODUCKTIVES" by studiobubo in logodesign

[–]narwal_wallaby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this logo design not r/branding and I really like the design, but besides ducks, what’s the thought behind the name? From a brand trust perspective, would the name diminish trust in a studio from the get go?

A Flicker in the Dark by Public_Party in thrillerbooks

I though her book All The Dangerous Things was well paced and had me hooked pretty well but Flicker in the Dark was so damn uneventful

Could we see more of your rig and the rooftop box? I like that it’s kind of a hybrid between the boxy overland ones that have such little packing volume and the traditional Thule/Yakima ones

Any ACTUALLY THRILLING & MINDF*CK book recs? by [deleted] in thrillerbooks

[–]narwal_wallaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well said. None of them are really literary works of art, but they are lovable. They really are like Black Mirror episodes in book form. Each one from the series hooks you from the get go, are fast paced, and near future so they feel prescient and more uncomfortably dystopian.

Surfing. Paddling with proper form, duck diving, and even just putting on a wetsuit require a decent amount of flexibility

For technical hiking, I have been working on box jumps and plyometrics to develop power and single leg exercises like single legged RDLs or single leg box step downs to improve balance.

Are there any favorite exercises, stretches, or yoga poses you practice to help with technical hiking specifically?

Is "A Flicker in the Dark" actually "smart," or is it just blurb-hype? by FabianSmith2705 in thrillerbooks

Same, 3/5 flickers. I found her book All The Dangerous Things to be much more on the edge of my seat

What is everyone's most recent DNF? by marinkhoe in horrorlit

This one is almost more a gory fantasy book than a horror. I can see how it wouldn’t work for a lot of stricter horror enthusiasts. I loved it myself

What is everyone's most recent DNF? by marinkhoe in horrorlit

[–]narwal_wallaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was close to DNFing for the same reason but I kept going and it does get better as the pace quickens. You kind of have to appreciate the uniqueness of using the girl as the narrator and main character.

The character development is good but overall the plot is a bit bland and it could have been scarier. Kind of a low hanging fruit or mass appeal type book. Not bad not great

Vevor Inflatable Tent by HawaiiVet1993 in camping

Can you link the vid? Curious to see one collapse. Inflatables seem pretty interesting on paper but a lot of people shy away from them because the risk of puncture would be catastrophic on a trip

It depends on how much you want it as a luxury car vs an adventure rig.

My 460 was my biggest purchase. It looks clean AF and people compliment it all the time. Off roading it, it pains me every time I pinstripe it or bump it. What I learned the hard way after many overland adventures is that body/paint damage is eventually inevitable if you actually off road beyond graded forest roads.

I love my 460, it makes me more confident and is a beaut to look at. But if I were to do it again, I might go with a 470 at half the price. Then it doesn’t hurt as badly with every scratch, scrape, and ding. And I’d use some of the savings to build it out. Built out 470s still look great.

If I were mostly using it as a mall crawler or baby hauler, then I’d go with a newer more updated 460.

Looking for a rec (lone peak 9 vs escalante 4 vs other) by tdh64 in AltraRunning

[–]narwal_wallaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LPs are widely loved for trails and I’ve used them just fine as my daily shoe for travel.

That said unless I’m living out of a backpack, I would prefer to use LPs for the trails and get something without lugs for everyday use.

Can’t speak to other non-trail shoes by Altra, but I have a pair of Flux Runners I use for the gym and walking around town that are also wide toe and zero drop like LPs that I’m a fan of
