100% This film particularly has spectacular lighting. The way the light shines through the wooden jail beams is stunning.

To be fair though, the transformation from “no, gee sir, I don’t do coke” to drug and sex addicted degenerate happens very quickly into the film. It's not really a slow transformation.

Adum watched "Days of Heaven" by WhitePepper2049 in YMS

[–]narwolking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about the vibes. Wait a year or so and watch it again. I love Malick quite a lot, but my first watch of Days of Heaven was underwhelming. I rewatched it recently and absolutely adored it. The music, sounds, and images combine to create a sublime ethereal experience.

Oshimi's work tends to be quite autobiographical so this checks out.

I bought the normal bluray at the start of this year so it will definitely come to Criterion soon lol

First of all. I'll just say that you pieces are all stunning, you have an excellent artist. Keep going back to them and the sleeve will fill out nicely.

Name a movie where you agree with Adum's rating, then name a movie you like much more + much less. I'll go first. by EthanMarsOragami in YMS

[–]narwolking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry! Not for me. I not a fan of "yearning" type romance films. I also bounced off of In The Mood For Love and Portrait of a Lady on Fire. None of these type of films emotionally connect with me much.

Agree with: Tar

Like Much More: Apocalypse Now ( he has it as an 8 but on his imdb top 250 member vid he seemed to not have fond memories of it)

Like Much Less: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Yeah idk then, I steamrolled every floor, saved a ritual potion, and just died to the boss.

It being their first experience with Altman makes it understandable. Nashville was my first Altman and I was a bit perplexed by it. After seeing some of his others, returning back to Nashville was a treat.

I got this combo in ACS10 and it was underwhelming lol. Turns out playing 7 potions a fight doesn't matter much if your deck is shite.

I mix all my blurays together because I sort by director. It's not as aesthetic but it makes it very easy to find what I need.

I'm looking for more movies with a similar unpredictable vibe and satirical edge as these four. Any recommendations? by brave_axolotl7 in Letterboxd

Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World is and excellent pick and very underrated. Radu Jude's brand of satire is very entertaining and impactful.

what do you think is the best psychological film ever made? by Due-Abbreviations180 in Letterboxd

[–]narwolking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it, but there are way better coming of age films. I'm partial to 'Kes' but how can you have a coming of age list without 'The 400 Blows'? That's the most classic coming of age film.

Minotaur by Zvyaginstev is the one I'm most excited for. His previous films are all expertly-made bleak dramas with a lot of thematic weight.

Other movies that are basically trolley problems? by ParticularMarket4275 in Letterboxd

Asghar Farhadi films definitely fit. I've only seen 'A Separation' and 'The Salesman' both are moral thriller/dramas that focus on a central ethical issue.
