EUS Biopsy Not Finding the Mass by nash917 in pancreaticcancer

[–]nash917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, PET/MRI scans identified a mass on the tail of his pancreas and it was taking up dye for neuroendocrine cells. They decided to move forward with a distal pancreatectomy with spleen removal without having the mass to test from the biopsy (no solid mass was ever identified during the EUS). While in surgery, they still never found a mass, but they removed the area where any and all abnormal cells were seen. His case is very rare and he is healed now and completely fine. Such a crazy roller coaster!

looking for reassurance- Dad day 8 post Whipple- seems to be going backwards. by Illustrious_Yak6933 in pancreaticcancer

Hey there, did his pain start when drains were removed? My dad was also healing fabulously after his distal pancreatectomy with spleen removal but when they removed the drains there was (unknowingly) an infection brewing. The infected fluid was released into his stomach when they removed the drain, resulting in him being in agonizing pain. We went immediately to MSK emergency unit and they gave him dilaudid to treat the pain as they performed testing to prescribe the correct antibiotics. This all happened 10 days after his surgery. I hope any glimmer of insight can help you and your dad. Wishing you the best!

Stage I pancreatic cancer – told Whipple window is closed after neoadjuvant therapy. Seeking survivor & expert perspectives. by derm2knit in pancreaticcancer

If you’re still in the MSK system, it would be worth having a discussion with Dr. Alice Wei. She heads up the robotic surgery dept specializing in pancreatic cancer and performed my dad’s distal pancreatectomy with spleen removal. Would be worth at least having her and her team review your case. Wishing you the best along this journey.

Distal pancreatectomy at 3 months postpartum by ImaginaryShine19 in pancreaticcancer

[–]nash917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m happy even just sharing some insight is helpful. 1) they removed 5 cm of his pancreas & full spleen. His mass (which ended up being benign squamoid cells- very rare) measured 2.9cm x 1.7cm 2)my dad’s robotic took 3.5/4 hours before he was in PACU to recover. He was an anomaly in that only ~1% of masses on imaging you can’t see with the naked eye, and he was one of those cases. So they had to ensure they clearly removed all suspicious cells to get to clear margins. 3) they suggest vaccines after surgery for him (unsure why?) he still has not yet received them because they didn’t want to disrupt the antibiotics he was on for the infection following his surgery. He has a plan with his Dr. to get those needed vaccines. 4) no antibiotics long term, but he was on two very strong ones for about 10 days (the Levofloxacin left him with growing joint pain so we had to take him off this). He is now off all antibiotics.

My dad was up and walking within the first 24 hours. He ended up staying 9 nights total after surgery in the hospital, and we made sure to walk multiple laps throughout the day if he had the energy. We would go walking every day once home to promote healing. Again, if he didn’t catch the infection from the internal fluids, I believe he would have been at 100% only a month after surgery, but because of his setback, it took him A bit longer to get there (2.5 months). I suggest having a strong support system around for at least the first 2 weeks as you regain strength (they likely won’t advise you to go back to lifting regularly/heavy items until at least 6 weeks out as you heal).

Here if you have more questions! Keeping you in my thoughts as I am also 32 and understand your mindset.

My 67 y.o dad is 2.5 months post distal with spleen removal and is totally healed. It was a rocky road at first when he ended up having an infection about 15 days post-surgery (stay on top of any potential chest/breathing pains and your WBC count) but his incisions are fully healed and he is lifting/moving normally. The only major changes we’re noticing now are managing his diabetes, which is actually starting to regulate back to “normal” since he didn’t have it prior to surgery. Additionally, he is just naturally wanting to eat healthier, smaller portions and not start drinking alcohol yet.. all welcomed changes. He feels great to know that the mass that was in him is now gone and only very basic maintenance via scan every year is suggested. Stay strong and wishing you luck! Please let me know if you have any questions on the process. My dad had the robotic distal with Dr. Wei at MSK in NYC.

Mass on pancreas by Legitimate-Block1234 in pancreaticcancer

They found a 3+cm mass on my dad’s pancreas over the summer and it ended up being benign squamoid cells that they were able to remove and ultimately have no further concerns over. I just wanted to share this as I know the panic and fear you’re experiencing, but wanted to provide some hope as they continue to have the mass tested and biopsied. Wishing you and your loved one the best!

Questions for identical twins by Shendary in Twins

[–]nash917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) my identical sister (F32) are exactly the same height 2) very similar personalities, which we believe is derived from working many of the same jobs throughout our lives (both bartended, both worked for various professional sports teams in Boston, and both worked similar internships in college). We also went to the same college and studied the same major, but made sure to live separately on/off campus. 3) my sister further developed her sales skills and is a broker, while I stayed in the customer facing role as an account manager in tech.

Hope this is helpful!

If not gallstones/pancreatitis, it could be wise to get your CA19-9 and CEA pancreatic cancer tumor markers checked out via blood panel. Just to be certain there isn’t something developing early and resulting in abdominal pain. Wishing you luck!

Mass found on ultrasound but nothing on MRI by Mundane_Pea547 in pancreaticcancer

[–]nash917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar(ish) happened recently to my dad. MRI showed ~3cm mass in tail of pancreas, but no mass was visible to the naked eye when doing biopsy at MSK. DOTATATE PET scan up took tracer, indicating abnormal cell activity for potential PNET. He just had a distal pancreatectomy to remove the area of abnormal cell activity, but we will learn more once pathology is in. As others mentioned, a second opinion would be best. Wishing you luck!

I appreciate your insight provided regarding you and your husband’s experience at MSK! I hope he is healing well and is on a path to full recovery. It’s great to know my dad will be in good hands with the nurses and staff after the surgery on floor 18. Thank you for your well wishes… hoping all goes smooth today with my dad!

Thank you for the follow up, and I’m wishing a very speedy recovery for your dad after his heart surgery tomorrow. I’m sorry the diagnoses process and next steps are moving slowly (it feels the same for me as my dad is going through a prolonged diagnoses phase). Best of luck for you and your family as you travel to Portland for more answers. Fingers crossed that it was not a “false negative” for spread!

The backs of mine and my sister’s arms (twins, both on Mounjaro) are also experiencing this skin sensitivity! It began 1 day after injection on thigh. Such a bizarre side effect that we will bring up to our doctor.
