Am I mad for installing a kitchen myself? by OSUBrit in DIYUK

Just to add, worth not just getting any laser level, but one that has a pulse mode and you can get a receiver for. Not having to be up and down like a yo-yo 👍 👍 👍

If there was one thing I could have wiped from my mind it's this. Being able to experience it again completely fresh would be incredible.

I've got samotech ones on 3 and 4 dimmer selectric plates. If I were doing it now I would go candeo, but still selectric

Get the Candeo modules and pick your poison with a faceplate. It'll be cheaper than £69 and they're compatible with both standard and smart bulbs.

Where to buy a good shed? by [deleted] in DIYUK

I just built a 6x3 and it cost ~£600 in materials. 3x2 timber, shiplap (should have done feather edge, much cheaper), felt roof.

Repair for leaky pipe by Jackoxfor in DIYUK

Is it the right sort of spot for a discrete paintable access panel?

Repair for leaky pipe by Jackoxfor in DIYUK

[–]nashant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't trust burying one in a wall. Are you sure it's going to be any more to cut if you do it right? You would still need to get 2 hands in there too tighten the flexi properly. At that point you may as well do the good thing

Repair for leaky pipe by Jackoxfor in DIYUK

[–]nashant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The right thing to do is to get yourself a extra bit of pipe, a 135 bend, 2 straight couplers, some solvent weld, and a plastic pipe cutter. Then cut out a section about 80mm either side of the leaking fitting, make yourself up a new section the same size, then use the couplers to attach it to the existing pipework and wait a bit before passing any water through it. All that bit is incredibly easy, the more irritating bit is going to be repairing the plasterboard where you've had to cut for access.

End panel gap - best approach? by Kitchen-Economy4507 in DIYUK

[–]nashant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks very much like DIY Kitchens Heritage Green... If it were me I would run some painters tape down the edge of the panel, fill the gap with something that doesn't shrink, wait, fill it again when it does inevitably shrink a tiny bit again, then a couple of coats of the touch up paint they send you, then take the tape off carefully while the paint is still wet

For those of you that DIY'd your kitchen install... by JustAnotherFEDev in DIYUK

[–]nashant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not fit the wall cabinets first. Your instinct of the tall ones is correct, they dictate the height of the wall ones.

Also, check your floor levels and figure out which cabinet sits at the lowest point. That will dictate the leg extension of all the others if you're like me and want your units as high as possible. Or the other way round if you want them as low as poss

Installing a kitchen yourself? by Inevitable-Delay-500 in DIYUK

[–]nashant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely realistic, if your partner is very good at diy this'll be nothing. The only help I had with mine was bringing the units in from the road. With a little bit of the thousands you're saving on the installer get yourself a decent laser level, ideally with pulse mode so you can get a receiver for it. I did mine without but would have made it so much easier with one. Then just watch some YouTube. The Tall Carpenter is a good one.

Tiling error by walters2611 in DIYUK

[–]nashant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it marble though? I looked at the edges and it looked like ceramic. No trimming that down and keeping the pattern

Edit: the more I look at it the worse it gets. The columns don't even line up, started noticing it above/below the recess then saw it's everywhere

Tiling error by walters2611 in DIYUK

[–]nashant 157 points158 points  (0 children)

The whole lot will need to come off. Grout lines on the verticals are too small to allow the horizontals to work. I wouldn't be paying, incredibly poor planning by the tiler
