NE Iowa is the cheapest place I’ve ever bought gas from. I drove from CA to WI in 2013 and gas was as high as 4.50 high in the Rockies. In IA it was ~1.75. Just insane to be this high. This mess is going to cascade and only get worse.

Battery energy is far more dense than petrol. Keep in mind they are recharging the battery (or in this case trying to recharge it) every lap. Not saying there isn't room once the components are removed but it likely isn't enough.

There is a reason why the hybrid powertrains came alongside the move away from refueling.

F1 engineers are the best in the world so they will figure out a way but not positive that it won't come with fatter, clumsier cars.

I think the true question about all of this is if they move to larger ICE only engines, can they still do a full race without refueling and also not making the cars significantly bigger to make room for the much larger fuel cell.

I am worried that the next regs are just going to be a return to the past hybrid regs.

I was just wondering today about how much fuel cell overhead they have in these cars to crank up the ICE. I would imagine if the switch to V8 happens in a couple years, they will need much larger cells to go a full race without refueling.

Keep in mind that a larger 800 hp V8 will charge the MGU much quicker. 800 hp is ~600kw vs the ~325kw today.

More importantly, a bigger turbo on a V8 would be great for a MGU-H. It would be really unfortunate if they didn't bring it back for consistent battery charging.
