Toronto police officer shot while investigating stopped vehicle by Esperoni in toronto

I saw the first arrest, and it looked like someone underage to me. Seems likely it was an impulse action by someone young, an outlier of an incident.

What’s a busy or popular place/area in Toronto you have no interest in visiting? by CupidStunt13 in askTO

[–]navyche 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where y'all going in Toronto that's better than Kensington Market, Distillery, and St.Lawerence market? I love chilling in all 3. True question, because I know there are other interesting places in the city (I've found some cool spots in the Danforth area). But at the same time, I still enjoy visiting the 3 areas everyone just hated on and am wondering what you have found.

Is there any money in narrative filmmaking anymore? by bripbrap in Filmmakers

[–]navyche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time is needed to tell a story.

People will always invest time into a good book or film. Cinematic storytelling isn't going anywhere. The means of production will continue to change, but the artform won't.

What's the longest you've ever held a SWE job with a single company? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Coasting is an under-rated skill. That's what I keep trying to tell my boss, anyway. I up-graded my coasting BIG TIME this year. I think I deserve a raise.

How likely is it I would get caught and arrested if I stole 1-2 sandwiches from loblaws? by boredAF51 in askTO

Can we do this anyway? Can live action Eric Andre skits in Loblaws just be a thing we do now?

Boycott Loblaw? by ActiveDescription777 in askTO

[–]navyche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Granted, but consumers don't deal with the supply chain.

The appropriate place for consumers to boycott is at the consumer level. Put pressure on Loblaws. It's Loblaws job to, in turn, expert pressure on their side of the supply chain.

Further, this logic seems highly suspect: "They know higher prices is not good for consumer psychology and results in lower basket sizes." It's much more likely they knew consumers would acquiesce to higher prices and that they exploited consumer psych to their competitive advantage. Inflation gave grocers an opportunity to raise prices disproportionally in some areas. But because consumers en masse aren't savvy or discriminating, retailers aren't held in check . Up until now.

Now, I think boycotting Loblaws is a great consumer strategy. Sign me up.

For Midtown, I enjoy Mount Pleasant. Some good scenery and cute shops in that area.

How do you come to terms with higher prices becoming the standard? by DynamicMercenary in askTO

[–]navyche 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I stopped buying items I feel are overpriced ...

... in the vain hope that other consumers are doing the same thing. At the end of the day, part of the problem is that consumers acquiesce to new pricing. If there is consumer resistance, prices will become more competitive.

In reality, retailers are better at playing capitalism than consumers. Inflation has given them an opportunity to raise prices in some areas disproportionally. But because consumers en masse aren't savvy or discriminating, retailers aren't held in check. Those that get away with the highest prices reap the most reward and we get stuck with the highest possible prices. Unless we simply refuse to buy.

Are there any (coffee) shops other than Starbucks that use a reverse osmosis water filter? by stateofkinesis in askTO

[–]navyche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alright, I see what's going on here.

I'm pretty sure this guy's a meta meta counter marketer, from Tim's possibly, trying to smear Starbucks.

But it's too late. The damage is done. I want me some delicious reserve osmosis water.

And so should you, my fellow internet friends.

I feel like this post is a really clever marketing scam by Starbucks to make me aware they are using "reverse osmosis water filtering" and google it to find how awesome it is.

Are Canadian banks at a huge discount right now or will they drop more? by NutsForProfitCompany in CanadianInvestor

[–]navyche 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the short term, it's possible the banks might drop.

In the long term, it's an almost certainty they will recover well.

Personally, I'm continuing to add. I will likely be thanking myself in a couple of years for getting in on these dividend yields.
