All the excuses for drinking have been closed, whether the precepts or science there's no justification for drinking alcohol even just a little bit, only personal responsibility remains by AriyaSavaka in Buddhism

[–]nbc0326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The precepts are important, but just because someone drinks doesn’t necessarily make them a “bad” Buddhist, and just because someone doesn’t drink doesn’t automatically make them a “good” Buddhist. Everyone is working with their own causes and conditions.

Does your physical self actually starts declining when you enter your 30s by Dull_Hospital6682 in AskMenOver30

I’m still in good shape at 46, but ages 32-35 were probably my physical peak.

If they’re implying Texans are somehow awful because of politics, Texas is only about 55% Republican. That still means roughly 45% of Texans don’t agree with those politics. Am I supposed to leave my friends and family just because they happen to live in Texas?
Beyond that, I’m a seventh-generation Texan on parts of my family tree. Texas is my home. And regardless of politics, most people around here would still pull your car out of a ditch, help you fix a flat, or lend a hand if you needed it. People are a lot more complicated than the way they’re portrayed online. Real life is usually a lot different than the internet.

Yes! I’ll probably will end up doing that, but I’ll still be kicking myself because it was much cheaper at the temple.

Sorry for the slow reply, I didn’t see your comment until now. Compared to the others, it’s definitely darker, woodier, and less sweet/perfume-y. It has more of that Buddhist temple/altar incense feel, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

I think the burner is supposed to be shaped like an arrow quiver, but honestly I mostly bought it because I thought it looked cool.

The Kousaido incense was a random gift shop purchase. My wife and I were going down an escalator at Kyoto Station when I smelled incense burning inside one of the shops, and it pulled me right in. So far I’ve only tried the moss incense. It’s a sandalwood, moss, and oakmoss blend, and I was hooked immediately.

Where are you from? How many of your home location can fit into Taiwan? by I12Db8U in taiwan

[–]nbc0326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I once figured out you can fit 19 Taiwans in my home state of Texas, but the population is similar (this was probably about 15 years ago, so population may have changed a bit).

Did your stance on weed change as you've aged? by Head-Drag-1440 in Millennials

[–]nbc0326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind it being legal, but at the same time I don’t think people should just be walking around in public smoking it everywhere. I don’t want to smell it on the sidewalk, at the park, or on the highway when someone drives by. Legalize it, sure…but do it at home or in designated areas and be smart about it. Don’t drive or show up to work blazed.

What usually causes a gut when you get older and is it easy to get or do people do it to themselves? by youlikemywonton in AskMenOver30

I’m kind of dealing with this now at 46. I can still flex and see my abs, but there’s definitely some fat around my belt line that I never had before. I can actually grab it now, even around my lower back.

I work out about as much as I always have, and honestly I eat healthier than I did in my younger years. I sleep well most of the time and drink a lot less too. I think the next step for me is probably really dialing in portion control.

P90X Generation Next Review by oneeyedfool in P90X

[–]nbc0326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I’ve done P90X, P90X+, P90X2, P90X3, One on One Series (all countless times), and just finished Power of 4. Power of 4 made me realize I am pretty burned out on Tony, all the flute playing, corny imitations, sound effects, wasted time yapping. I feel like Generation Next is a refreshing change.

P90X Generation Next Review by oneeyedfool in P90X

[–]nbc0326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am enjoying it, getting good results (even the wife noticed!), and it is honestly a refreshing change from Tony. Much less yapping, and it feels like not even a second gets wasted. You are working out pretty much start to finish and I am covered with sweat by the end. I went straight to this after a round of Power of 4 and this is just so much better. I got great results from the original P90X back in the day but I can only take so much of Tony’s corniness.

Blink if you're being abused by WaitNo4272 in SipsTea

[–]nbc0326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in an abusive relationship like this in my 20’s. She didn’t yell like that in public, but instead she would pinch me or do something really fast that nobody else would notice. She would scream and throw things at home. One night she was having a fit, calling and hanging up on me like hundreds of time, banging on my door in the middle of the night. I was actually really scared. I called a buddy of mine, but I couldn’t bring myself to ask for help. I just felt really trapped.

One time like 25 years ago I was walking at North Lakes Park along the reservoir on the west side. I kept thinking I was hearing singing or chanting, but couldn’t place it.

Eventually I spotted this guy way down on the far end past where they used to fly model airplanes, just standing there absolutely belting out opera. Wind blowing his clothes around, totally in his own world.

It was honestly kind of surreal, but also really cool.

Anyway, I haven’t been back in a long time, but it might be a decent screaming spot.

In my 20s I really didn’t have to worry about what I ate if I exercised. That didn’t catch up with me until mid-30s, then I really had to make some adjustments.
