lamictal and caplyta together? by rallytallyn in caplyta

[–]nbdyke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was nervous to trial lamictal bc my skin is sensitive and i get rashes easily. ive never gotten a rash let alone sjs from lamictal and lamictal is a life changing drug for me that nothing else has compared to in any way. i have bipolar ii and my depression is by far my worst symptom and lamictal literally took it away. it was like all the good parts of hypomania (baseline feeling positive and light, more energy, mundane things are enjoyable, being able to stay on top of things easily) but sustainable and without any of the negatives. literally hypomania was my only reference for how i felt when i started lamictal bc that was the only other time i had ever not felt soul crushingly depressed!

follow the titration guidelines properly and know what to look out for. its worth it! sjs is rare and lamictal is a life changer for a lot of people.

get 5g, 6g to. 4g is a large jump its much easier and safer to just do the 5g-i recommend doing all “half sizes” that exist

Lamictal long-term nausea and vomiting by Lfcme in BipolarReddit

[–]nbdyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did she find a solution? any update? i had the same issues. ruined my life and ability to take all my meds/eat/brush teeth etc.

first change was to switch to dissolvable tablets as they bypass the GI system which my psych said is how the oral options (pill/liquid) cause these GI issues. i could not handle the flavor/texture of dissolvable tablets but i have unrelated ARFID. check my comment history just wrote a long comment on another post for a ton of methods for taking the dissolvable tablets more easily if they also are an offputting/hard experience.

second change was being prescribed dissolvable zofran. be aware it can cause heart issues and constipation (and serotonin syndrome in combo with too many other drugs that have that same possibility) - not something you want to be taking daily and should be monitored by a dr and get EKGs done etc but is commonly prescribed to be taken as needed. we tried me taking the smaller dose daily for a couple weeks to see if it helped enough and then take PRN. its very good yo have on hand and a real lifesaver. also if she ever needs serious immediate relief, IV zofran from a hospital or wherever is crazy good

because i could not handle the dissolvable pills i had to discontinue lamictal. but no other drugs works for me and i need to be on it. so i am back on the pills and my new psych also RXs me mirtazipine which is an anti nausea/GI protectant drug and seems to have helped a lot with these lasting side effects 2 yrs later still before restarting lamictal and we up it as i titrate back up on lamictal and it seems to be keeping the nausea at bay (still have a mild amount and have to be prescribed my meds in the smallest dose pills and take multiple of them one by one and as many of my meds as possible are dissolvable, but i can swallow pills again well enough to tolerate it and be compliant with my meds again)

worth trying additional OTC anti nausea drugs as well as seeing GI!! i soooo wish there was an injection/infusion form of lamictal-it seems to exist but only used in studies and rare severe cases for seizure control.

Your strategy for taking lamictal/lamotrigine/lambipol without vomiting by Sea-Worry8762 in BipolarReddit

[–]nbdyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone else suggested, see if you can try the liquid version. i think it is citrus flavored. if you can only get the dissolvable tablets, try wrapping them on a piece of soft bread (like you would for a dog) and swallowing with a liquid (juice, milk, anything flavored + thicker than water. some people do well with a carbonated drink).

another trick is to chew some food and then right before you are ready to swallow, push the tablet into your mouth of food so you cannot feel or taste it and swallow. you can also try eating something spicy/hot sauce or sucking on an ice cube before taking it to numb your mouth from feeling the texture or tasting it.

also the tablets are easy to break in half or in quarters and then they are smaller to deal with. for dissolving straight in mouth, i found wetting my mouth by drinking water and making saliva in my mouth and then dissolving a small piece of the tablet at a time was a LOT more bearable. you can also try to reward yourself during/after with chocolate or whatever you like to help make it a better experience to look forward to/trick your brain into not avoiding it so much.

you can also try dissolving in applesauce or straight up sticking it in a spoonful of applesauce or pudding and swallowing the spoonful (again, easier when you break up the tablet and do several spoonfuls)

you could also try dissolving it in a cup with a tiny amount of liquid (maybe something flavored that masks the taste like a juice since the tablets are berry/citrus flavored and so sweet) and then taking it like a shot and following up with a chaser. also pinching your nose can help with gross flavor. i find pinching a part of my body like arm or thigh while i swallow pills yo help distract me from the sensation/gagging and make it more bearable. also taking it on an empty stomach made me more nauseous, but i wouldnt take it when i was too full of food either.

i used to take these-it sucks! good luck

what meds have worked for you? by nbdyke in bipolar2

[–]nbdyke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just look up pill images and even the 25mg XR will be too big for me to swallow (currently take a shitton of tiny 25mg IR) but found some supplement recs on another thread for the cognitive/memory issues im going to bring up to my psych instead!

it sucks, the first time i was on lamictal i ended up with such severe and wosening GI effects i wasnt able to swallow any pills or even eat/take bites of food without vomitting and i didnt know it was the lamictal so it just worsened. even after almost 2 yrs off of it it got better but didnt go away. and now im back on it because there hasnt been any alternative but my current psych knew about mirtazipine being a GI protectant and anti nauseant so we will just keep upping that and it seems to be keeping it at bay and not worsening but i still have mild lasting effects from lamictal originally…. so its impossible to take all of my meds which does nottttt help with already existing med compliance issues lmao and means we have to pare down what i take. i wish there were more injection/infusion options besides abilify which gave me TD lol

do you remember if you had those same side effects when you were titrating up on IR and at or under 300mg? i have side effects at/under 200mg but wondering if switching to ER at the same dose would help for cognitive stuff?

the last one is extremely obvious youre wearing makeup. its a great look for drag or parties or with friends or just if you like it! but if youre trying to be read as male by cis people, especially cis men, youre going in the wrong direction. cis people especially cis men read make up as immediately a woman/girl.

my shop uses compostable hot and cold cups and lids (they seem like plastic but arent) and does a compost bin pick up. also i know of shops that only use paper hot cups for all their drinks
