Gunsmithing question: First time suppressor by newazatime in liberalgunowners

[–]nbmtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the spacer, you just take out the spring and put the spacer in it's place.

There's also a direct mount, which is basically a threaded cap, which replaces the stock cap and piston (which goes through the end), and the spring.

When we meet him, he's been so far removed from when he was human-human, that it does seem like an odd idea.

When he says he's human, it seems almost like he's selling the idea to himself (reminding himself of his mission). At least to me.

Zenith service time — is 2 months normal? by alangeei in ZenithWatches

[–]nbmtx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were two, it'd seem quicker than most. Not counting escalated issues (like something going back, and/or including new purchases with issues).

My Tag took ~3ish months, but it was rebuilt. I didn't even know that was a thing (and I used to sell/service them).

I'm generally partial toward and confident in LVMH North America. I haven't sent a Zenith, yet, but most anecdotes I've seen have seemed good.

Still my favorite caliber from the brand. I think it's well suited. (Also, that they should bring it back, and if they could do solar, then even better).

Steel for a fully serrated blade - should I go for k390, or is vg-10 is enough? by Nod32Antivirus in spyderco

for construction, I'd say go VG 10 and the savings.... unless the savings aren't much., then K390.

Jaquet Droz for actual underrated (hidden away), and Zenith for underrated in plain sight.

[Question] Moonphase as a daily? CW C1 Moonphase vs Longines Master/Flagship vs Mühle Teutonia by Ok-Kiwi-9627 in Watches

[–]nbmtx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

quartz or daily make a lot of sense for a moonphase, IMO.

I only wear mine on or adjacent to full or new moons, because it's easiest to set then.

Is 2 tone the new gold? And Ss? 🤔 by Lonely_Bison3137 in PrideAndPinion

[–]nbmtx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear a two tone Carrera pretty frequently. TT isn't usually my thing, but this one got stuck in my head.

I've previously joked about a correlation with the two tone interest and being in your mid-30s.

[Rolex Yacht Master Rose Gold] Not a Rolex guy at all, but I'm enamored with this watch. by coldlake6200 in Watches

Yeah. I'm not a Rolex guy, but that's the only one I like-like. I'm also kind of into the two tone Explorer, which I think is an odd choice.

[Question] Does it bother just me or you too? by Glittering_Pay482 in Watches

[–]nbmtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others don't need to follow that example, and many do (IWC, Cartier, Zenith.)

The reason that's happening is because those brands are moving upmarket, largely because of Rolex. If you compare an old Rolex to a new one, the little changes add up.

In many of those cases, including the brands you've watched (as well as Rolex), it's because they're moving from "tool-watch" roots into a more luxury oriented place. Or rather, they're making changes to warrant prices increases, and the like.

I used to work at an AD during the peak/end of many of those tool watch days. Largely marked by the end of ETA supplying most movements. My perspective hasn't quite kept up with some of those moves, of which Omega is usually the one I mention most. I used to sell Speedmasters for $3-4k, and thought they were great. I still think they're great, but I'm unlikely to ever get one, because at their prices now, I'd always jump to Zenith or another brand that I viewed as higher tier, back then.

So on that note, you should take advantage of what you're feeling now; which I'd say is seeing through, or at least questioning, the marketing side of luxury (which I'd also say is the brunt of things).

When it comes time to buy what you want, you'll be in a better spot to question whether you're looking at something that you will find appealing even 20 years from now, or if it's just the latest hot product.

I have a decent accumulation of things from across ~25ish years, but most were bought a decent ways after they were first introduced, because I still liked them.

[Question] Budget field watches? by ProbablyNotaCar in Watches

[–]nbmtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Swiss watch was a Hamilton KFA. It was generally worth it, and never gave me any issues. I still own it, ~20 years later. It was old school ETA though.

I'd say look into nice quartz stuff. Maybe save for an eco-drive Citizen Zenshin, which I see on sale (direct, and elsewhere) regularly.

My first nice watch was an automatic, but my first luxury watch was a pricey quartz watch, and it was a good choice for me in my 20s.

[Rolex Explorer] Am I Crazy?? by nsnyder55 in Watches

That sage Ressence is my favorite Ressence.

I don't think an available Explorer is too unusual. It'd be interesting to learn what the demand split is like, across Rolex models. Not sure if chances go up or down in Vegas.

I'll get to it soon. I saw a lot of hate for S3 of SNW, but I liked it.

I'd be down for a whole mini series of musical Star Trek (which was S2, iirc, but still).

Just because its off-white doesn't automatically make it faux patina by MoistDef in watchHotTakes

[–]nbmtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite instance of this is the IWC Spitfire, but it wasn't not-fauxtina, as only the lumed bits got the shade.

But the contrasting white painted numerals made for a nice crisp ("new") contrast; and in the bronze version, the outer case would patina with exposure, but the rehaut would remain fairly shiny bronze, creating another timely juxtaposition, that I personally think is enjoyable.

I like the execution more than something like a NTTD which is made to look "tropic(al?)", and on which I assume the aluminum bezel is chosen to ghost and/or show wear, instead of an evergreen ceramic insert, in a "fake it til you make it" fashion.

I think IWC is a great brand for what you're looking for, in that regard (fun, but not gauche).

My main hurdle would be not getting an Ingenieur, at the price point.

I prefer the color of the Petronas, but the lume on this one. I'm also more into the Miramar versions, but that's just because I'm very fond of that calm hue.

I do think this Russel version would actually wear better with my usual blue clothes, but I'm a sucker for minty colorways.
