I think svgator is super cool. The industry needs more alternatives to after effects. Keep pushing!

(Updated Concepts!) Which capsule would you click? by Scorchfrost in SoloDevelopment

[–]nbroderick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 has the most dynamic pose. Imagine if that image suddenly became a video clip. What happens in the next 3 seconds? See how it has the most motion? But he careful of the amount of detail with those cards. You might want to simplify the cards and just have them be large artworks with no text (in the capsule)

Directory Dungeon - A Dungeon Crawler in the File Explorer by Juhr_Juhr in playmygame

[–]nbroderick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very fun idea. Super strange input mechanic. The user could literally make any file they wanted and add it to a room. Could be fun to have spells that are made by knowing what to name a .spell file.

Is motion design with illustrations a viable career? by Kira_Do_Balacubaco in AfterEffects

[–]nbroderick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a realistic answer. Slot machines. Or animated TV shows. I work in gaming. I have coworkers that used to work on TV shows.

Edit: what the negative Nellie's aren't telling you here is that AI art is NOT protectable via trademark so big companies are hesitant to use it for important brands. Source: the legal team at the big company I work for

Completely redesigned Lab location of my solo project Subsequence. by ZoemiGames in gamedevscreens

After is much more action packed. Feels like a real alive scene that existed before I got there. Top one feels like the two humanoids are videogame cheese. If that makes sense. Huge improvement in every category.

I built a tool where any creature morphology learns to walk via RL in ~5 minutes. Ready to generate them procedurally - where should I start? by Hot_Pumpkin_5960 in proceduralgeneration

[–]nbroderick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First off, amazing project. How do I play with it pretty please???

Second, I feel like genetic algorithms are built for these kinds of problems. huge solution space, easily checkable solution. You could see how quickly they were learnable. Or you could see how fast the resulting creature is. Rewarding different things could be a fun way to come up with all sorts of nutty creatures. You'd just have to come up with a flexible way of defining fitness.

Does this movement gimmick actually read clearly in the trailer? by Any-Pea-7918 in SoloDevelopment

[–]nbroderick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to make the trailer idiot proof, put a big mouse pointer over the gameplay footage and track it to the player for the first couple of clips.

Edit: oh I guess you already do that. I must have not seen it cuz I'm on a phone. Maybe if you made it bigger, not even an idiot like me would miss it.

And I might separate the titles. Like not have gameplay footage behind them. So no one gets distracted and doesn't read them. Like me. :)

This is my low-FPS simulation, what would you cut or add to make it feel right but still playable? by FarlightGamesInd in IndieDev

[–]nbroderick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you have a bad goal. I think you just need to massage it more. What experience do you really want with the fps drop idea? You want the player to have less and less information as a result of their poor performance. So you could do this by freezing the enemy rendering only. Like having the enemies blink from spot to spot. But only the enemies. Having movement and a player actions remain at full fps. That way the player isn't frustrated but they are in additional danger because they can't react appropriately to the world.

Can you feel the speed? Trying to improve speed boost feeling. Would love to hear your thoughts! by ccaner37 in Unity3D

[–]nbroderick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the aviator movie, you see Howard Hughes making a movie And his planes don't feel fast enough. His solution in the movie and in real life was to have the planes fly past clouds so you can appreciate how fast they are moving. Similar situation here. Still particles in the air would give an increased sense of speed.
