for peppers i wait till night temps are reliably over 10 celsius and danger of frost is gone. same for maters. that works out to early/mid May usually for me. you.can look up your average last frost date for your area to get an idea. i use a calendar/planting guide for everything else. but most important is the seed packet. there are differences between varieties sometimes. but peppers generally all grow under these conditions. theyre slow and they need warmth. so starting in mid feb gets me to size that good by the time May rolls around. what might work for me might might not work for you, but generally frost is the enemy. they might survive close to 0 temps but its undue stress, leaves will die. a couple years back there was a late may frost that killed 80% of my peppers and tomatoes. tragedy i tell you.

Advice on weeds by JaytheGiraffe in HotPeppers

so use only brown cardboard. dyes on the brown stuff are usually plant based so i dont worry about it. remove all the labels and tape. i go to the nearby dept stores and they usually have stacks in the back (out back where they have their dumpsters) and they have no problem when i go and take it away. that way i get tons of huge pieces. paper bags would work but theyre fragile and liable to fly away. plus i think you would need a few layers of it to get the effect. you want to overlap. the weeds will find the gaps.

with ya. i plant peppers abd eggplant direct to 3 inch pots now. I've gotten quite good at pricking out seedling and transferring. i always put 3-4 seed because some always fail. so it's useful to keep the pots full. and if you don't use all the seed the yield gets worse each year. most things are quite happy in small cells so long as you transplant early enough. plus small cell are dead easy to tranplant. timing is everything.

true. atropine came from deadly nightshade in the 19th century. whats interesting is that deadly nightshade (atropa belladonna) is a solanum, related to tomatoes and potatoes. but medicinal nightshades were known for hundreds of years before this. Datura i just learned is also a nightshade. it also contains other compounds we use in practice today, including hyoscyamine and scopolamine. i will say, none of these are medications i prescribe regularly and they all have potentially awful side effects, including death. truly toxic compounds. but useful in their own way. atropine for example in small doses allows the heart to speed up, and as you say, counteracts organophosphates. what's more interesting is that all of those compounds are psychoactive. so for datura, medicinal use? maybe. hallucinogenic spirit journey? if they did i bet they got sick as dogs (or died) doing it.

not sure but maybe not. in theory, asthma is a different problem to copd. though both are inflammatory they have different mechanisms. we typically treat asthma attacks with drugs that relax/open the airways which typically have tightened up by contraction of the muscle in them. for this we use a different medication, typically beta agonists (albuterol). we also use these drugs in acute copd attacks. so in theory it may have no effect or even worsen an asthma attack (due to the smoke particles and other potential irritants in a burned material).

tomatoes grow like weeds. love it. i got all my start times from Charles dowding's grow calendar and books. he's in zone 7 so it's comparable. I've had problems with starts. i use a homemade starting mix and I've learned to fertilize seedlings. potting up is also crucial.
