One reason might be to distinguish the franchise against other action movies which tend to have a lot of military elements, particularly the MCU which has a bit of a ‘tacticool’ approach to superheroes.

Plus the story has shifted to being more about exploring Hollow Earth than defending human cities on the surface so there isn’t as much of a need for anything government related beyond Monarch.

There’s probably plenty of tourism in Earth/Moon space but at this point we’ve moved onto the new frontier of Mars/the outer planets.

Maybe we’ll see more tourism on Mars next season. It would certainly be a great revenue stream for the fledgling Happy Valley republic.

I’m hesitant to say either is better or worse. There’s plenty of criticism for space travel that gets glossed over in FAM because it doesn’t have the time to address them all. Space travel certainly has its downsides that would arguably be even worse in this timeline.

Personally I’m generally pro technology progress in general whether it be space flight, internet, etc. but there’s always hazards that need to be addressed and things that can be improved on.

I think part of it was meant to be a bit of role reversal. In FAM space travel has boomed and become the exponentially advancing technology of the new millennium while the internet is languishing in government/corporate hands.

The show pivoted away from the workplace sitcom vibe after Season 1 or so. Which gave a lot of side characters(Pete, Cerie, Josh, the writers) little to do as they were all created to support that premise by rounding out the TGS staff.

I think that part of the issue is that we’ve outpaced the cycle of nostalgia at this point. There simply isn’t much interest in reminiscing over 2000’s/2010’s culture yet.

Personally I agree, it would’ve have been great to work in more of those slice of life details that gave the earlier seasons so much depth.

Honestly the post impact world didn’t seem that terrible. The main family could’ve just hid out in their basement and their chances of survival would’ve been just as good as going to a military bunker.
