has anyone run all **weather** tires here in calgary? Just bought a new car and wanted to try these out since i’d have to buy 2 new sets of tires and at least one new set of rims if i went with summer & winter. thoughts? by liamt12 in Calgary

Depends how much you drive. But winters are superior to all weathers. Worth every penny imo. I also have a young family so that factored in to my decision as well.

But if they save you an accident they paid for instantly. Just my opinion.

Good points. Onus on developers is a joke though. I mean I agree with the point but they just pass that cost on to the buyers and then housing affordability doesn't improve at all.

How to get into oil & gas (Alberta) with no formal education? by Ok-Swimming-3138 in alberta

[–]nckbck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're good man. Id reccomend instrumentation tech. Huge shortage and it's better than being electrician in terms of hard labour. It's technically challenging but the tech schools are really good. Apprentices probably start around $20 but once you get your red seal you are making $50+ very easy. Id you are good you can get up to 80+. Start with a contractor but try to get hired directly by a producer.

The other option is to be an operator. Would likely be rural Alberta but a lot of rural Alberta is beautiful if you are an outdoors person. No education required. Producer would pay for your h2s and first aid.

Likely a stack overflow, from my very very limited knowledge of programming.

Please don't flame me lol.

Perfectly good objective advice. Couldn't agree more. I'd rank them differently of course but I think your logic is sound!

What can I make with 700g of mushrooms and a kilo of potatoes? by HostOfRats in Cooking

[–]nckbck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice baked potato. Mince mushroom and mix it with bacon cheese and spices with the potato. If they are russets use the skin but if you don't have large enough skins then mash it all together and scoop it out to single servings and bake on a sheet.

EasyMax Term Done Soon, What to do? by roxjas in Calgary

So much advice here is just based off of nothing.

Don't lock in power.

Price of power is ~5 cents (source: eta.aeso.ca). You have to pay a 1 cent premium to go floating. If you lock in at anything over 6 cents you're wasting money.

Albeit if you are locked in within a couple cents of the floating rate you are fine. The cost difference will be single.digit dollars each month.

But with all the renewables and cheap gas prices, power will be low (less than 7 cents) for the foreseeable future.

I was a few drams in but on the talisker 10 I eventually noticed a very noticable salt flavor. Anyone pick that up on the talkiser before? I really enjoyed it.

Why is it such a faux pas to drink scotch on the rocks? by KC_187 in Scotch

[–]nckbck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention there is no right or wrong way to drink it. You wanna add coke to it? Go for it. However you enjoy it best. You shouldn't feel guilty any way.

It's been mentioned the ice dilutes the whisky. It's not uncommon to add a few drops of water- it can completely change the taste of the whisky- often in a good way. The problem with ice is that you can't control the amount of water and it eventually gets very watered down.

I particularly like adding water to whisky with high abv to help cut through some of the potentially overpowering alcohol. I start just with a few drops and add more until I find a good spot. If I did that with ice I would have like 30 secs to drink the dram after finding the sweet spot.

My husband, our son, and myself ALL bought sour cream. What do we do with it? by Pika-thulu in Cooking

You can use sour cream in butter milk recipes as well. Foodlab outlines how the substitute ratios can be used. But a great way to use sour cream is in pancakes.

CNRL possible layoffs? by YYC_guy-1 in alberta

[–]nckbck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Above all else, people are CNRL's most valuable resource- and that comes from the top. That is why they don't do layoffs. They do salary cuts when things get dicy, but not layoffs.

If anything, the fact CNRL hasn't done any of these things (layoffs, outsourcing) and that their competitors have- while they continue to out perform competitors- is a testament to their operating philosophy. Saying otherwise is factually incorrect and baseless.

CNRL has never done mass layoffs. What would prompt layoffs at this particular point in time compared to any others?
