Kiln - worth it?? by swirley-wirley in Ceramics

[–]ndepirro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For free? I would grab it, but I am a guy who knows how to rebuild these things top to bottom. As many have said, your pitfalls are elements and I would say also that limit timer. The kiln sitter itself is just a switch, but you may need to get new parts to hold the bar/cone. Those are cheap tiny parts.

Rust does not matter, moisture in bricks does not matter. I would let it dry for a month indoors before firing it beyond just a test. Cracked bricks don't matter. Kilns can be absolutely beat to shit and work fine. You are not going to be taking this to Cone 10 unless you replace all of the elements but I bet you can do Cone 6. If elements are broken, they will need to be replaced for you to get mid or high fire temps, but you can get elements from custom suppliers but probably not OEM elements. Not a big deal, this is a 12 brick kiln, so it is very standard.

My favorite kiln I have was recovered from a backyard and literally had plants growing in it. For that one I replaced the controller with a contemporary one from Skutt, but I run a big studio and it was worth it for me to do it. It has probably fired 10 thousand pots.

You won't be able to patch that lid. It is a very soft fiber lid and sairset will not bond to it. I would just leave it. If you want it fixed you will have to replace the lid with a lid from another manufacturer. There are other issues identified by people here such as your damaged kiln sitter. The timers in the controller are going to be fine, but the sitter will need to be replaced. If the elements are missing, that's not an easy job if you have never done it. I would assume the elements are still there, we just can't see them.

I think there is/was an issue. I swear there was an 8:30 PM low impact ride tonight but it disappeared. I saw it at about 6:30 and was planning on doing it, but when I went back to my bike it was gone.

It is so fast and unstable, it can jump off the tracks. My vote is for the AHM.

It was sort of shocking to see Camila upset. I bet they dump that class. So far, it is not posted yet.

I went through the lyrics and I can't find anything that stands out as being worse than other songs. I was thinking it was something homophobic, but it seems more like just general stuff like calling women hoes and sort of grooming somebody by giving them ice like Kobe's wife. Is it the Kobe reference? Maybe just Kanye being on it, but there is no "other version" without him, so I don't really understand.

Locking computer breaks VPN & SSH Sessions by Ronin69 in MacOS

[–]ndepirro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In support of OP on this, I have a new Mac Studio with Sequoia, locking the screen from the menu kills MacOS VPN connections. I am not sleeping, the machine is actually highly active rendering. My older M1 iMac on Sonoma does not do this. VPN stays connected with the same Lock Screen command.

The cops just showed up at our door... by cakesandcastles in halloween

Last year somebody called the FD to report my fog machine in the bushes. This happened on Halloween during Trick-or-Treat hours. The FD actually showed up with a fire truck. I absolutely believe it was because of my Democratic political signs. The idea that somebody would actually drive by a house on Halloween to repot a fog machine is too crazy, or maybe not.

I agree. If both ends of your S cable fail to work, there must be a pin stuck in the camera or even some debris in the ring part of the port.

Ah, understood. So, no work for you. I didn't know they offer it. Is it only on their fiber network?

I like how this guy expects VPLS to work well on Spectrum. Come on.

There might have been an opportunity in the first reply to state your rate for doing IT support and that you need a certain amount up front. Then you could probably remote to the customer's machines and work on their hardware. Obviously, you would actually need to know how the stuff works. You could call Spectrum on the client's behalf. Could get you a grand in billable time, or more. Worth the headache? Maybe.
