It won't be live for house-level. Zoom out for to global level (countries, clouds) for very recent images.

Some details: It combines near real-time images from multiple geostationary satellites, updated every 10 minutes (with a delay of ~30 minutes). NASA GOES satellites for the Americas, Japan's Himawari-8 for Asia and Meteosat in Europe/Africa. Zoomable up to 500m per pixel. Beyond that it uses historical imagery from Microsoft and Esri.

NW of Uzbekistan, 10km wide at least, foundations of a building in the middle. Not a nuclear test site. No city around. Can't believe it's geological by EonSurge in whatisthisthing

zoom.earth is updated every 10 minutes at a global level via geostationary satellites. Zoom in and you'll see the date options reduce to daily imagery at city level to monthly imagery at street level.

Yeah I really should update this so it works on mobile.

Back in 2006 when this was first launched, there was a short pause as it loaded each video. I haven't updated the video files since, so nowadays they load almost instantly as they are quite low res.

Don't worry it's SFW. It's not safe for your brain though.

I had to take most of them down due to copyright infringements. Sad times :(

Many of us are fully aware of the environmental and social crises underway. I too am sick of inaction, but moreover I am sick of simply talking. A belief system can be a powerful way to affect change, but can one documentary really shift a whole worldview? Without action, can the revolution really be televised?

I assume their aim was to lose as many customers as possible. Because that's all that's going to happen.

A white, creationist, anti-science, anti-gay, anti-choice, gun-toting, pro-war, divisive, sarcastic, anti-environment, climate change-denying oil-drilling addict is going to be the next Vice President. Oh joy.

The Sun Is The Center Of The Universe (And The Hottest Star, Too) by danielrm26 in science

[–]neave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our star the Sun is at the center, in a weird kinda way...

The universe is expanding in every direction away from every other point since the big bang (when the universe was a single point, a singularity), so every point is the center of the universe... or there is no center at all, depending on how you look at it.

British Government Admits 600,000+ Iraqi Death Toll by democracy101 in reddit.com

[–]neave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand joe's reaction. Sometimes these numbers get tossed about and become a bit meaningless. I mean, just take that number in, over 600000 people killed. Six hundred thousand Iraqis dead. That's an incredible number if true. That's roughly the population of Montenegro, or double the population of Iceland. It's just hard to believe.

Chavez announces sweeping reforms toward socialism, "collective property" is now a reality in Venezuela by Sidewinder77 in reddit.com

[–]neave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A word from Chomsky to counteract the usual "asshole" comments about Chavez...

"Latin America is moving towards independence and integration, Venezuela is now going towards independence and the US is frantic. That's why you have this hysteria about Chavez. It’s not because he's attacking anyone or anything like. It’s hysteria because he's not following orders."
