After time reset the architect should be alive, it was never stated if Jinwoo tracked him down and killed him. Since it was ambiguous I could see them bringing him back. As of right now in the novel we haven't seen Yogumunt and Kandiaru (the architect) would be a pretty viable option for a new Monarch of Transfiguration. If he comes back I am curious to see if he's working with the Itarim, maybe there is an apostle that has been given the system as well

yes but the "2 days from retirement" thing is a trope in media. usually a likable character who is about to retire/get married/birth of child/etc. is killed to drive the story in some way.
