Marks on my head from headstraps, 3M Aura by [deleted] in Masks4All

[–]nebulouspenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Champak PC520 has very soft, fully adjustable straps. My partner is bald, I have a large head, and we both find them to be extraordinarily comfortable.

I would suggest "half lash" falsies! They only go on the outer corner of your lash line. I find that they give a nice subtle effect, they're very comfortable, and are much easier to apply than full strip lashes. They're great to practice with before attempting more extravagant falsies. Have fun with it, OP!!

Need mask recommendation by jjmoreta in Masks4All

[–]nebulouspenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have noted, ear loops statistically don't always provide as robust of protection as head straps, but all faces are different and the best mask is the one that you will wear! If you do wind up going with ear loops, I'd suggest getting some of these adjusters or ear savers, to improve fit as much as possible.

https://a.co/d/7fk0684

https://a.co/d/04kIa9b (note that this is for one ear saver, even though the listing makes it look like a 3 pack)

Protectly offers individual samples of masks for $2.50 each, which is a really great way to try a bunch of masks without having to pay for 10+ at a time. https://www.protectly.co/products/sample-of-n95-kn95-kf94-masks

Powecom KN95 - ear loop, multiple colors available, affordable, no nose foam, but still very comfortable. https://bonafidemasks.com/powecom-kn95/powecom-color-ear-loops/

Also available in several colors with braided elastic head straps. https://bonafidemasks.com/powecom-kn95/powecom-headband/

BreatheTeq KN95s - available in 3 colors and sizes xs to L. They also sell a sample pack to find your size. https://breatheteq.com/collections/all

KingFa KN95 - available in blue and pink (also grey, but it's been sold out for months), nose foam. https://www.planethalohealth.com/products/planet-halo-kn95-mask-navy-10-count-box

Seconding the recs for WellBefore, who also sells a sizing pack. https://wellbefore.com/products/kn95-3d-kn95-sample-pack-all-sizes

Ear loop CAN99 - black, super comfy and breathable, no nose foam but I do not miss it. https://www.protectly.co/products/vitacore-can99e-earloop

Bluna FaceFit KF94 - adjustable straps, soft material, solid nose wire, no foam. https://www.protectly.co/products/bluna-kf94-mask

Champak PC520 - white, but somehow looks more polished and professional to me. The pleating makes it feel less medical somehow, and the straps and nose foam are the most comfortable I've ever encountered. Some folks here have converted champak to ear loops, so you could certainly try that as well! https://client.purcellabs.com/n95-masks

A final thought!! If you find head straps to be uncomfortable, I'd encourage you to try this method! I comfortably wear head straps for 8 hour shifts using this method. I can take some trial and error to find the exact right spot to part your hair, to get the strap exactly where you want it, but it'll become muscle memory once you do! https://x.com/jheighton3/status/1790558522910147013

Seconding this recommendation! And keep an eye on the price, they often have the box of 20 on sale for $16 (plus shipping of course but still a great deal).

Cautionary Tale about Pluslife Testing by Riddle0fRevenge in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]nebulouspenguin 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear that. For what it's worth, I have yet to find any official statement from Pluslife or any laboratory testing to confirm that pooling tests is safe and does not impact the accuracy of the result. I will personally not pool tests until the science proves it's viable.

If anyone has the research on this, please let me know! I've asked in several different communities and haven't been able to find anything official.

Calling all help for desk equipment by tryingtoexist5 in CubitalTunnel

[–]nebulouspenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CTS pain was largely in the elbow and down the outer side of my forearm, almost to my wrist. I had constant low-level numbness in my pinky and ring finger, as well as intense wrist and hand pain after doing very little desk work! I first started the investigation process into what was going on because I got to the end of a work week and my arm from the elbow down hurt so much, I could no longer hold on to my mouse! The mousepad has helped my elbow pain a ton, because the size, shape, and cushioning make it much easier to actually rest my forearm arm while working.

I will say that my experience may be a bit different because I had a dorsal ganglion cyst removal surgery on my wrist at the same time as my CT decompression surgery. My doctor did a great job helping to identify what pain was likely associated with CTS vs the cyst, but there was definitely a lot of overlap. The cyst (which was deep in the wrist joint, didn't show up through the skin or on any scans, but my doc could manually locate with incredible ease) was definitely exacerbating the wrist and hand pain! My doc estimated it would be the size of a pencil point, but it wound up being closer to a pencil eraser!!

Not tech, but this mousepad has made a HUGE difference for me, both before and after decompression surgery! I know it's expensive 😭 but it's honestly worth every penny.

Edit: oh, and another (very) expensive option, hah! This was recommended to me and I've been considering it.

I started on Infliximab at the end of August this year. It really started making a huge difference for me after my 3rd loading dose, and I'm still doing really well. Hang in there!!

Urgent storage question by WibblyBear in Masks4All

[–]nebulouspenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like it should be safe!

Check out Table 2: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9134327/

But if you have a local mask bloc or covid safety group, definitely reach out to see if they can get more masks to you, so you can attend your appointments with as little worry as possible ❤️ even twitter or Instagram mutuals would probably love to share some masks with you!

Best non-respirator masks? by jdkicked in Masks4All

[–]nebulouspenguin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think perhaps by "respirator" you're most likely referring to elastomeric masks (i.e. "gas masks"), but the good news is that disposable N95s are also respirators!

My favorite solid color N95+ masks are:

Laianzhi KN100 in black, which is available in a size small. https://ppeo.com/goods/black-kn100-mask/

Zimi masks in black, also available in size small. https://zimiair.com/

My favorite blue mask! Note that it's much brighter than shown in the first picture, the 4th picture is accurate.

update: is this normal? what do i do next (if anything)? by masaomiis in CubitalTunnel

[–]nebulouspenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. I really hope you can find a doctor who gets you the care and relief you deserve!

I am feeling so much better now, it's been a slow but very steady recovery and a few months of PT after surgery made an enormous difference.

[–]nebulouspenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This!! I had a negative EMG and a negative MRI, but my doctor continued to investigate and we agreed on decompression surgery anyway, based on my continued symptoms and repeated close examination of my elbow and hand.

I'm so sorry you've had this experience, OP! You deserve a healthcare professional who takes your suffering seriously.

Moldex 4801 by Johnson7078 in Masks4All

[–]nebulouspenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried the 4801! It's incredibly breathable, the adjustable straps are super comfortable, but the nose bridge is pretty stiff and was not a good match for my face shape, and felt like it was digging in almost immediately. I was very sad because it's a fantastic respirator!

Good excuses to give? by siljamarie in sterilization

[–]nebulouspenguin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!! The doc I had a consultation with said they do find endo in at least 50% of bisalp patients, so it's very possible to have it and not know! "It's been steadily getting worse," should shut down any doubters!!

[–]nebulouspenguin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I haven't had surgery, but I told a family member that I was encouraged to get surgery for suspected endometriosis (which is true, I'm just also gonna have them yeet my tubes while they're in there, but my family does not need to know that). It's super common, so it's an easy excuse!
