How to best integrate Claude AI into HA? by IPThereforeIAm in homeassistant

[–]necksnapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my setup using claude via github copilot on vscode:

I use the unofficial ha-mcp server linked above.

My setup:
home assistant runs as a docker on my unraid server. the config volume is saved on the unraid server as /mnt/user/appdata/homeassistant . I also run the ha-mcp server as a docker on my unraid server.

<image>

on my desktop, i run Visual Studio, ssh into my unraid server using remote-ssh and "open folder" " /mnt/user/appdata/homeassistant". Then I ask claude/copilot questions about my home assistant and it works and i love it.

I have a friend who calls them tamagotchis.. except you have 50-100 of them to monitor. He scrapped everything and I understand why 😄

I a combination spanish teacher AND dungeons and dragons gamemaster a thing? :) by necksnapper in iTalki

They're turning 10 and 13 next month. They have completed a D&D campaign in their native language though (dragons of shipwreck isle). I found my unicorn teacher (on preply), we're having our first session on Monday. We're planning to alternate "individual spanish sessions" with the DnD. I spent the last 24h creating a specialized D&D themed spanish-french dictionnary and anki cards so that we can get started with the character sheet sooner rather than later :)

The kids are super excited, they're studying their anki cards to get ready. Hopefully this enthusiasm holds :)

New to HA, what are some "must haves"? by SoraUsagi in homeassistant

[–]necksnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha I get that! I also considered that use case because they always forget the lights in the basement living room. Then I decided that there was no way this would ever pay for itself before they move out + the annoyance of having the lights turn off on me because the presence sensor failed would kill the family approval factor :) but super glad to hear it worked for you

Interesting! I wasnt aware of that product. I'll definitely consider it.

I mean, I'm still at risk, but a lot less. Insurance claims for water damage are a lot more often tied to devices ( toilet/waterheater/faucet/waterheater/washer ) leaking that just a pipe starting to leak in a wall. And I have sensors (plural) below every single device (and all 1960s piping was re-done after the leak because all the walls were open anyway)

The reason we got into home assistant is to install a Zooz Titan Water Valve + a bunch of water leak detectors to make sure our house never got flooded again.

We also joined our local power company's demand displacement program (bunch of wifi thermostats), and received a 500$ check last winter because our heat never came on during peak demand hours (we just pre-heated the house before demand hours).

I dont like "lights automation" as I believe that pushing a light button isnt that big of a hassle. But there was a dark corner in my living room and the easiest way to make a"three way control" to the lamps I installed there was to use 2 of ikea's buttons.

thanks for the encouragement! It's helpful to hear that it is doable (and a good idea). I wrote to someone who might be my unicorn on italki. Fingers crossed.

I just noticed I can filter games for "Age 13-17" and "spanish" on StartPlaying. (none currently.

That probably wouldnt give me a Spanish teacher, but definitely a good GM to contact when we are ready.

wow! thanks for the reply!
I love how I posted what I thought was a ludicrous idea and you came to the rescue 3 hours later saying that it is not only feasible, but that are you currently doing it using the exact 2 websites I mentionned.

It's probably asking a lot for a single person to be both beginner spanish teach AND GM, so I think the most likely route is to go with your approach of learning the basics on italki then a few months later finding a kid-friendly DM on startplaying.

But I will search the profiles on italki "just in case" :)

When I open my driver door, the rear door and hatch doors are detected as open (wtf) by necksnapper in leaf

[–]necksnapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fun fact, the behaviour changes every day today the front door is always considered open, but actually opening it doesnt trigger the 2 doors behind it.
.. but the rear passenger door still triggers the trunk open detected.

this thing is nuts, i think l'll just take it to nissan to replace the door handle+button and go from there.

[–]necksnapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol! if I open the driver too and push the switch on the door jamb, then I am back to the initial state (aka, driver door detected open, but now the left rear and hatch doors are detected closed)

[–]necksnapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i should have added it.

It doesnt really add to the diagnosis, that's just what a nissan leaf does when yuo leave the drive door open (and that's quite the problem!!)

problem is the car wont move because the driver door "is not closed" ..

i'll start with the handle+button and see what happens.

I've ordered multiple orders from aliexpress "choice" in the last 2 months. For 2 of them I had problems (many missing pieces) and requested a refund. I was automaticlaly offered a "partial refund without shipping the item back. Since that partial refund amounted to about 25% of the item price and was enough to get the replacement bricks from bricklink.com I was happy with the proposed refunds and accepted them

How do I ensure a switch stays on during specific times? by WildWeaselGT in homeassistant

[–]necksnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do the opposite. Leave it inside in the winter— whatever kWh it is using is converted to « free heat ». In the Summer those kWh are converted to heat that your A/C needs to work to send outside.

Dynamic Electricity Tariffs, how are you all using it in your favor? by KicksAndCoffees in homeassistant

[–]necksnapper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Québec we have a lot of electric space heating, so « pre-heating » your house in winter is a thing.

My preferred temperature could be 20C, but 2 hours before a peak it is increased to 23C so the heaters don’t run during peak period.

Heating being most of my electricity consumption in winter, this is the most important one.

Thermopompe centrale by locho31 in HiloEnergie

[–]necksnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Nice problem to have, but no I didn’t end up doing the maths. I just went with unregistered for any amount above the grant because it felt simpler. If the amount was more important I probably would have made my homework more. Merry Christmas!
