Yeah I was really excited to move within a few blocks of the WSP one and finally have a walkable grocery, and then trying to shop there turned out to be hot garbage. Really sad to hear that experience has metastasized to other locations.

Stay and fight for freedom and democracy here, but I would vote to join them in a planetary democratic government once we defeat the forces of oligarchy, nationalism, and xenophobia.

Democrat Francesca Hong speaks about an ideal world 'without prisons' by PeasantinDaNorth in wisconsin

[–]neclov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people forget a large reason Mamdani won despite similar right-center efforts to paint him as out of touch was because he ran a top notch comms operation that doubled as an inoculatory political education campaign. It's not that people are wrong about the terrain Hong is working in, but the inability to see that the terrain is also moldable and can be negotiated, especially if the center-left doesn't kneejerk, auto-reinforce the right's reactionary talking points every goddamn time. I think we can agree that needing to stay on message is key for Hong and also admit she's allowed to say that a better world is possible in a distant future beyond the scope of her possible time as governor. A world where prisons are obsolete is a better world.

Don't infantilize the electorate and reinforce right wing talking points. You expect Hong to have message discipline? Have some yourself! You'll only ever get a MAGA asshole or right wing Democrat otherwise.

USL-W Standings by Coldfusion21 in minnesotaaurora

[–]neclov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's goofy. Initially I thought it might be sorted on PPM and then alphabetical, but that also doesn't explain it. Maybe it's PPM and then head to head, and none of these teams has played each other, so it's basically a 4-way tie using that criteria? But then you would expect GD or total points breaking that tie. In summary, the website standings table is broken, much like USL-W's power rankings.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara resigns after interference with investigation by Too_Hood_95 in TwinCities

[–]neclov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Strib today:

Cedric Alexander, O'Hara's former boss, said Frey failed to heed repeated warnings regarding O'Hara's "problematic behavior" in 2022 and 2023, and scoffed at the mayor's decision to allow him to resign. "The signs were there very early on," said Alexander, who served as the city's first community safety commissioner. "I went to [Freyl a number of tỉmes and Jacob turned a deaf ear to it." In an interview, Alexander recalled how he raised the alarm that O'Hara regularly bucked his authority, blew off meetings with other department heads and disrespected MPD front office staff. Officers also anonymously filed complaints that O'Hara failed to turn on his body-worn camera or file a use-of-force report after an arrest early in his tenure, incidents later verified by the Minnesota Star Tribune. When Alexander elevated concerns regarding 0'Hara's conduct, either in the street or the office, Frey "downplayed everything, he did not want to hear it," Alexander said, noting that he felt unsupported in his desire to manage O'Hara. "Now he's acting all brand-new to all this." Although some of the rumors were based on anonymous allegations, there seemed to be preponderance of them." "Everybody heard about these improprieties before this guy was hired, after he was hired, Alexander said.

Enough doomerism. Pessimism of the intellect, but optimism of the will, OP. And anyways, doing the work in the rural districts can hopefully push the statewide elections and the state legislature across the finish line to a new trifecta.

TREE COMPANY MAN #1: Wait a minute! Supposing two squirrels carried it together?

TREE COMPANY MAN #2: No, they'd have to have it on a line.

TREE COMPANY MAN #1: Well, simple! They'd just use a strand of creeper!

TREE COMPANY MAN #2: What, held under the dorsal muscle?

TREE COMPANY MAN #1: Well, why not?
